Flashback, made by the same crowd who did Another World. The top screenshot above just reminded me of it, maybe the futuristic setting. :)

Played Fade to Black on the PS1, thought it was great back then, the 3D was pretty convincing (I hadn't gotten into PC gaming at that stage so was none the wiser in relation to how good or bad the PS1 version was).

Same publisher. But Another World was Éric Chahi. Flashback was by Paul Cuisset who went on to do... eh... Shaq Fu.

I want to know how much Rage sold it for but I don't want to be sickened either, I don't think I'm even fussed at the region at this stage, I might even go for the JP of its cheaper.
I already cleared it with the good end I just want to say I have it at this stage.

I bought Fade to Black for the PC and was very impressed, played to completion then, when it came out for the PS, bought it again.
It was in an era when consoles simply did certain things better, and F2B was impressive on the PS, a much better use of textures for example.

I messaged them yesterday to check the price, it sold for 124.95, I didn't ask about condition or if it was complete. If it was and minty it wasn't a bad price looking at completed listings on ebay. I don't know whether it's even worth that money, the reviews aren't convincing me.

Didn't realise it was the Jap version!

    Just RAGE being RAGE.

I thought it was a US version, that's well over the odds so. It was a good spot, I glad someone noticed it because I didn't.

The combat is ****e but the story and soundtrack are absolutely unreal. It depends on how much you tolerate and what's more important to you, for me it was the story and music and it kept me going through the bad gameplay.

How does the Jap version of Rule of Rose play?
Does the story become incomprehensible or is there any English subs?

I don't have it and haven't played it but I already played it through other means in English so I don't give e fiddlers what physical copy I get.

Never got my hands on that, but loved AW and Flashback. Must look out for it.

Don't bother! It's aged so bad. I loved it at the time but time has not been kind. I was talking about how people perceive it as some horrible game that has no redeeming features... Which it kind of is but back in early 1995, before anything like tomb raider or Mario 64 appeared on the scene it was amazing.

PS1 port was actually quite improved over the PC version with better texture mapping and less Gouraud shading. The problem was it appeared around the same time as Mario 64 hit Japan and tomb raider was around the corner.

Have to disagree there. F2B was an improvement on the PC version because it was a year after the PC release. At the time of release PC gaming had stuff like Quake, solid 3D games that the PS1 couldn't replicate without significant shortcuts due to lack of RAM and it's janky way of displaying polygons. Just look at the difference between the PC port of Tomb Raider from the same year and the PS1 port.

I had Tomb Raider on the PC , with my first graphics card, looked amazing.
But, I wouldn't worry about the PS version, it is a Saturn game after all!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,695 ✭✭✭DinoRex

At the time Tomb Raider came out not many PCs could run it at the higher resolutions smoothly, so they PS version did look objectively better.

Think I upgraded my RAM the same year I got Tomb Raider on PC and it looked great then.

I did the same, from 8mb to 16mb, woohoo, hold on to your drawers and prepare for action!
Also, the addition of a Creative Labs Vérité accelerator made everything look amazeballs.

Heard a huge crash come from downstairs.

My bastard of a cat had gotten up on top of an IKEA billy bookcase and knocked my Run DMD off onto the floor. That's approx a 7 foot drop to the hard ground.

I thought it'd be smashed to pieces when I got downstairs, but there isn't even a scratch or a dent in the perspex

Powers on perfectly too. Best not to question this miracle...

I have to say Oisin, you have had more than your fair share of arcade related bad luck. I will do you a favour by minding your cabs and pcb's until it passes, send me a pm to arrange collection.

Holy crap, a Sega Megadrive just saved me from a fiery death!

I was in the spare room and happened across a Megadrive Mark 2 which I'd completely forgotten about. Thought I'd test it out and put it up for trade.

Went into the main bedroom (which I hadn't been in all morning) to try it out on the TV there as the one downstairs is being used.

When I walked into the room there was a really bad smell - girlfriend had mentioned the fish tank needed to be cleaned so I thought it was that.

Got the Megadrive ready to set up, went around the back of the TV and heard a sound like a snake hissing.

Turns out, she'd been in the room earlier giving it a clean - and had knocked off the really old gas heater. Not one of those bottle ones, but the main one hooked up to the house. We both thought the thing was broken. So the room had been filling up with gas all morning.

If it wasn't for that Megadrive, I wouldn't have gone around the back of the tv and heard the leak.

I may reconsider trading away that Megadrive now :pac:

Anyone ever play Air Strike Patrol (known as Desert Fighter in Europe and some other regions on the SNES?

Remembering renting it back in the day and really liking it, a bit of a Strike rip-off but did it's own little things as well.

Might give a go some evening soon and see how it holds up.

Having a bit of a problem with a seller on eBay at the moment. Seller listed game for Buy It Now price with Best Offer, I made an offer which he accepted. I told him payment would be made in 2 days, the day before he cancelled the order because he said there was a problem with his Paypal account and that I could still proceed once it was solved. He sent me a message saying it was fixed and could proceed with payment which I sent. About a day later he refunded my money out of the blue and relisted the item and has since sold it again via Best Offer.

I'm thinking he got communication of a higher best offer and decided to brush me off and accept that instead. I have sent him 3 messages without reply. It's a pity eBay changed the whole 'reporting' function a few years back and negative feedback is the most you can do now. Anyone had anything similar happen to them?

Did you get a request from the seller to cancel the transaction? I remember a seller listing an item as bin listing, I bought it and woke up to a message from the seller stating they had listed it an incorrect price. Have you the option of leaving feedback on the item?

    http://pages.ebay.ie/help/sell/cancel-transaction-process.html

    Things to keep in mind

If you cancel a transaction, the buyer may be disappointed or feel that you didn't honour your side of the bargain. Keep in mind that:
If you cancel a transaction, it may be considered a defect and count against your seller performance. Learn more about seller performance standards.
If you cancel a transaction, the buyer can still leave you negative or neutral Feedback about the transaction.
When you list an item, you enter into a legally binding contract to complete the transaction if the item is sold. If you cancel the transaction, there could be other negative ramifications. See the eBay User Agreement.
Once the cancellation is complete, you can't ask us to step in and help with the transaction, and you can't reopen the cancellation request.

The last paragraph from the link above, just don't leave abusive feedback, if I were you I'd leave negative on how the seller cancelled the transaction and resold it to another buyer.

No I didnt get a request, he just cancelled it. The only option I had to fill in was whether I had received the refund or not, when he initially cancelled it and then told me everything was fine.

Ya when I will leave feedback it'll be pretty measured and to the point of what happened. He hasn't even got back to me at all stating why he refunded me the money and sold it again seemingly.

I think in my case it was a genuine mistake in the sellers listing, I knew it when I bought it that it was too good to be true. This seems more that they stringing you along. In fairness that's bad form, I would leave appropriate feedback.

Finally got around to watching The Babadook the other night, have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. It's rare anything modern in the horror genre would do anything for me, but this was clever enough to put a different spin on the oh so trodden tropes of the genre.
