I see apart from Tonight With Vincent Brown budget special utvi and TV 3 aren't covering much of the budget. You would think with the budget affecting so many people they would try and go for a slice of the audience. Maybe the feel they can't go up against RTE'S coverage.

UTV Ireland provide coverage last year. :(

But not this year - considering that will cease to exist as we know it by the end of the year.

RTÉ2 continues with their over coverage of the Budget.

UTV Ireland wins Best News Programme at the IFTAs, for an Ireland Live Brexit Special.

Elsewhere, and as yet unconfirmed, it looks like the new look "ITV-ised" UTV NI may be with us very soon indeed.

Edit: UTV Live at Six in temporary set tonight, so looks like final preparations for the changes are underway...

It now seems pretty certain that in vision continuity will end on UTV on Sunday, leaving TG4 the very last station in Ireland or the U.K. to keep alive the once common practice.

Julian's last IVC is tonight. Gillian's seemed to be last night going by her "it's been great, thank you" message at the end of her announcement going into Paul O'Grady's programme.

The UTV sign outside Havelock House has been taken down this morning. Looks like we will be seeing big changes on Monday morning.

www.u.tv now goes straight to www.itv.com. The old UTV branded twitter account still active.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,529 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

Yeah, the UTV website was one of the first things ITV dismantled when they got hold of UTV, though like a lot of things they won't see the value till they offload UTV Ireland as the infrastructure is still in use to run their website.

Similarly, even though UTV playout from Belfast will end this weekend, the playout staff will stay in situ to run UTV Ireland until that function is ready to move to Dublin.

UTV Ireland gave up the ghost long ago by not renewing their hit shows like the Daniel O Donnell one. It them shows old esposodes of Dancing on Ice on prime time Saturday nights.

Not that it hasn't given up the ghost but from their launch they have played years old ITV variety programming opposite the likes of X Factor. That's certainly not a new development

I think there may be some confusion over that - tonight is the last time Julian will do his famous "And now on the UTV" intro to Coronation Street (because it won't air again until Monday) but IVC should run till Sunday.

You'd think that the regulators would make some stipulations on the sale of the companies. Neither government regulators seem to make any really requirements of sale. e.g. UTV would have to retain its current product in NI or that TV3 would have to retain some part of the UTVI PSB requirement.

So the worst kept secret in broadcasting- UTV NI rebrand goes live Monday. The UTV name stays (for now), but the presentation will now match ITV's:

That link is pointless since it only leads to a headline

What would be the point? Virtually nobody watches Ireland Live news.

In the late evening, for national news in Ireland it's RTÉ at 9 and for international news it's the BBC at 10.

This is the problem public service broadcasting isn't just news and current affairs, the reg could look for increases in PBS requirements on TV3 to off set both 3e and UTV Ireland.

Or TV3 could provide an alternative news on UTVI or 3e.

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 11,529 Mod ✭✭✭✭icdg

They did provide an alternative news on 3e for quite a bit, but I think it's gone now.

Regardless, I'm pretty certain that if UTV Ireland continues (and TV3 doesn't simply shut it), that after a short time there will be discussions with the BAI with a view to having its contract terminated and it covered under the TV3 contract, just like 3e. Once that happens (and having agreed to it once I cannot see the BAI refusing) all PSB programming will be very quickly removed from UTV Ireland.

3e news, FYI and the thread all abandoned.

This is what I mean if both 3e and UTV Ireland are under section 70 of the act the BAI must regulate either weighted PSB programmmes on TV3 or PSB programmes on their sister channels. Even if it was just to bring back alternative music back to 3e.

Also this applies to OfCom and UTV under ITV, the axing of local news and the moving of local jobs, shouldn't have been allowed to happen.

A few developments regarding UTV NI today.

It is planned that UTV NI will stay for two more years in Havelock House & are expected to move to a new premises in Harbour Square in Belfast.

Stephen Nolan from BBC NI writes an article about treasuring the likes of Julian Simmons in the North.

Also; the new logo is up at Havelock House since this morning.

Is there a tv guide for other ITV regions with the UTV guide now gone? All I can get is the London region with no links to go to other regions it seems.

tvguide.co.uk is good. Has all channels.

Cheers, but surely ITV should carry guides for all of its regions like the BBC do? Only STV seems to have its own guide currently.
