With Keaton's Batman the poor The Flash has been demoted in his own picture cause people my age/generation reared on the 89 Batman explosion we will be going for Keaton/Batman.

Not to derail, but this was an issue I kinda had with the first two Spidey movies. Iron Man was in the first one, and still loomed large over the second (with all his tech in play). I'd have liked to have at least *one* Spidey movie where poor auld Tom got to shine all on his owny-own.

But I can't really complain if we are getting to see Keaton back in the cowl again one last time. I imagine it'll be more of a brief cameo anyways.

I think (and I'm basing it off nothing but my own speculating) you could be wrong.

    As apparently it'll
pick up where Keaton's Batman left off at the end of Batman '89

I hope not on the above, because outside of the MCU I haven't seen too much de-ageing that managed to pull itself out of the Uncanny Valley.

As to whether Keaton puts on the cowl? I have a sneaking suspicion he won't, that he'll act like the Wayne from Batman Beyond: a belligerent recluse who slowly decides to help the heroes as a Behind the Scenes type. Just find it hard to believe the actor would be stoked about putting on a costume again, after all these years.

Did some looking, and The Wrap had this to say about Keaton's role in the film.
The Flash will disregard the latter two entries entirely and explore what Keaton’s version of Batman has been up to since we last saw him. Loosely based on the 2011 DC Comics crossover event “Flashpoint” — previously announced as the film’s title at Comic-Con 2017 — the story sees Ezra Miller’s Barry Allen travel back in time to prevent the death of his mother. The result? Allen inadvertently creates another universe protected by Keaton’s Batman, now 30 years older.

So the film will probably start off in present day after Snyder's Justice League with
    Affleck's Batman
, then Barry goes and does what he does, setting up the last line of what's hidden behind the spoiler tag.

I think of all the DC movies on the horizon, The Flash definitely has my interest.

What if he can move his neck in this one?

    Maybe Birdman was cathartic?

Yep, I'm fine if that ends up being Keatons role in the Flash movie. Just wish they'd have put him to use in an actual Batman Beyond movie. Why has that never gotten off the ground? You'd at least end up with a very distinct Batman movie, compared to all thats come before.

I'd speculate it's a few things: partly because in the head of studio executives there's a template of what a "Batman" film should be - and that starts with a modern setting, Bruce Wayne at his peak etc. (and probably why each film can't resist a Crime Alley scene). Also, I'd wager Batman & Robin really burned those executives' fingers and they box off anything even vaguely off the beaten path as completely off limits for adaptation. This Flashpoint appearance is probably OK by dint of it being another universe (and latching onto easy nostalgia points with KEaton's casting)

I know his Killing Joke adaptation got some criticisms (mostly around the Bats / Batgirl hookup), but honestly DC should just throw money at Bruce Timm to make a Batman film. Mind you, Matt Reeves obviously has his own, so let's see how that one shakes out.

I just assume that they're looking to ape Into the Spiderverse a bit. Multiverses didn't scare off viewers there, so what could be more popular than Batman? Several Batmen!

Yeah, true. It is kinda disappointing that having finally got the Flash movie started, all anyone is talking about is Batman  :D

i've only ever heard the Flash movie spoken of as a Flashpoint movie, which would have always pointed to things like Keaton Batman (if not that specifically).

The Flash is going to be a bit player is his own movie, isn't he? Another case of an ostensibly simple superhero ("he runs really fast!") overcomplicated by the insistence that it still involved Batman.

Getting a strong vibe of the button of that image. Was a batman/flash crossover in the lead up to Doomsday Clock which involved Watchmen and the DC universe.

The Illuminerdi has exclusively learned that Grant Gustin will be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming The Flash movie.

DC’s highly anticipated The Flash looks to be a huge film inspired by the famed Flash comic book storyline “Flashpoint.” The Flash will also include the return of both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as their respective Batman characters, the debut of Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and much more.

If this is a cinematic Flashpoint, I'd love it if the film gave a quick cameo to Grant Gustin, repay the fun scene with Ezra Miller's Flash on the CW show.

Glad to see DC took my suggestion to heart :D Though a little disappointing they didn't keep the cameo under wraps, would have been a nice surprise.

I take this isn't going to be much like Flashpoint apart from name unless they are planning on pulling the rug out from under audiences unfamiliar with the story with Keaton
actually playing Thomas Wayne rather than Bruce
. Would love if that's what they are actually at.

It's Supergirl. She was cast a few months ago, can't recall the actors name off the top of my head. If you look, the chest of the suit is clearly that of a woman.

It's Supergirl, I came across it because Ray Fisher is trending on Twitter so I had to have a look and see why and every single comment say apologies and put Ray back in the movie :pac:

Not unless they have breasts now lol. How can you not see the breasts? Anyway its Supergirl as mentioned above. I hope she eventually gets her own movies and about time too. Not mad about her suit do. I hope she has a Cape at least.

Would throw out the usual caveat about set photos making a costume look a bit weird or cheap; the shaping of the suit might be to do with whatever bracing and safety girdle is underneath the suit while Calle is harnessed. These modern superhero movies love making the cape CGI, so that'd explain its absence too.

I take a grain of salt with these pictures wait until the CGI and after production is done and they will be very different. I mean is you see pictures of The flash TV suit most of the time you think its looks like a very weirs PVC skin tight s** suit and then you see it in TV and it looks different

Not sure if that’s Affleck or a stunt man but it looks like it might be cowl designed as a helmet

I just presume it to be a stunt mask, something reinforced for the rider, while looking enough like Batman's mask it can be hidden either with smart editing, or CGI. Extra padding or another layer underneath the latex. All superhero costumes look crap on set anyway, thought we'd all know that by now 😁

A lot of superheroes costumes are accentuated with FX these days: be it removing the wrinkles in the suit for a better form-fitting look (I only recall a Black Panther before/after there); actually rendering the rest of the costume (see every iron man film after #1, Downey only wearing "shoulders"); or just adding capes after the fact, cos it's less hassle than an unruly cloth (see the pictures in this thread!)

They do recognize there is 2 flashes as in multiverse. As Miller appeared on the TV show in Crisis and they are (at the moment at least) having Gustin having a similar cameo in the movie. With Supergirl ending this season they would not have too many problems with two of them. Leave them seperate for now and maybe if possible have them seperated by Crisis and then can come back together for a big movie or smaller crossovers.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

Well in fairness Batman does help The Flash a bit in Flashpoint in the comic

Been a couple of accidents on set with the batcycle; thankfully nobody was seriously injured. What's also interesting is that once more, Glasgow is standing in for the US - with the Indy 5 shoot itself in Glasgow the other day. Must be a tidy little economy up there in the city.

There's a rumour going around online that Henry Cavill has been spotted on set with his Superman suit on him while he's with Batman.

Also there some video footage here of the new BatPod in Glasgow.

Given Keaton's return to the costume I thought I'd remind myself of the Burton films' tone ... And hmmm.

I had forgotten just how goofy they were, and closer to the Adam West show than latter-day Bats. Especially the sequel, where Tim Burton basically got carte blanche to go wild. The point being whether this Flash film will steer back to that tone or retrofit Keaton as yet another gritty version.

Michael Keaton mentioned in an recent interview that putting on the Batsuit & cowl felt 'shockingly normal & a little bit emotional'.

I could go with the presumption here that if Keaton could be getting back to his old self once again while he is playing the role of Batman for the third time in his acting career. I would personally love to see him exceed his previous performances from Batman & Batman Returns while he is playing the role in The Flash. If fans see that performance come to light on the big screen with the possibility that it could be better than Ben Affleck's Batman; it could be a wonderful experience for the fans to see that unfold right in front of them. Although if BatFleck's performance is also seen to be as equally good in this movie; we could be in for a treat here if the right script goes their way.
