Prob the strongest team we have available. Great to have harnedy fit. Both teams have players that can score but have big problems at the back this game won't be won by who score the most but by who concedes the least.

Fancy ye to beat us in the open spaces of Croke Park.

It really suits a lot of your forwards who have been a joy to watch the last few years against us.

God knows why Dublin agreed to it instead of Parnell Park

“Ideally we’d like to have a couple of points on the board at this stage, which would have given us the chance to try a few players on the extended panel. The longer you go without points the more difficult it becomes, the more championship-like the games become.”

Would anyone care to explain Kingston's logic here? Surely it's easier to try new fellas, ie. drop existing players, when the players aren't performing? Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

If fellas arent performing, and we can all name a good few, drop them and try out the new guys.

I hope both our senior teams show some heart and leadership this weekend ...because its been sadly lacking these last few years.

Good point. At some stage the young lads have to be given a shot. And if not the league then when? We know what most of those lads are capable off.
I would of liked to seen Stephen Murphy the nod. He plays mid with the club and reminds me a bit like kearny.
I know it can be hard to throw on a whole new young team, but the established players need to know they have to fight for their place. Hopefully some of the new subs on the panel can get a run on Sat and stake a claim.

On the game itself. I think we should win. Both teams are poor in defence so whichever side is more dominant here should win it. We have to be a lot cuter coming out with the ball from the backs. No point giving a short puck out to corner back who just belts it down the field.

Ah FFS What is going on with the hurlers? This is an embarassment.

Another shocking result Harnedy got 2 very late goals to make the scoreboard not as embarrassing as it really was.

Not much resources, the rebuilding may take a few years. Back to 1B may be no harm at all.

Much better from the footballers tonight.

That said, first 25 of second half, we were at sea altogether. Needless frees given away, some awful frees taken and shot selection aswell.

Ah well. Onwards and downwards we go.

Why feel sorry for him. Picks McDonald as captain. Worst captain ever taken to cleaners in last 3 games. Pat Horgan wouldn't get on Kilkenny junior C team. No heart. No passion. No Pride. Bride Rovers show in Cork where hurling should be. Heart. Passion. Fight for your each other.

    Disappointing but not unexpected night.

A poster on PROC got it right. Half our hurlers aren't good enough hurlers and the other half don't have the attitude/physical attributes required. Obviously a few exceptions but we're not at the races skill wise or mentally at the moment.

Concerned with the management too. I don't understand the short puck-out tactic. We have backs who are not comfortable in receiving the ball and a keeper who isn't accurate in his distribution. It's a recipe for disaster and it's worked out as such. No harm in trying it originally but it's clearly not working. If they want to persevere with it Pa Collins has to be looked at in goal.

The footballers had a strange night, overall encouraging especially after last week. First half was brilliant. Kelleher looked a nuisance again. Maguire seems to be getting back to form too which is huge. Second half we were back to the same old failings of not being able to move the ball out beyond our 65 when Dublin raised their tackling and intensity.

We gassed at the end which is understandable at this time of year. The way McCarthy ran around an exhausted Cadogan for the goal at the end was incredible. When the camera cut to him he hardly looked like he had broken a sweat all game. Different level, it was amazing.

I was watching the football tonight and from what I saw Dublin were worth their win at the end. Saying that I do think it's about high time the GAA got to grips with how their Refs give Dublin an easy time. The number of easy frees they got compared to Cork and in scoring positions was deplorable. If the GAA, like our government, think that Dublin is all that's important then they won't have much left to govern over in a few years. Rant over.

When the pace was increased in the second half the Cork defenders tackle went out the window, I saw a couple soft free for Dublin but similar for cork.
it wasn't a dirty game the cards for Flynn , Small and Cooper were all acceptable but the that run to close the gap in the second half when Dublin were winning frees produced no yellows for Cork.
If Cooper deserved to go , so did Ian Maguire

What an unbelievably ridiculous post. Go and look up the free count in Dublins knock out games last year & you'll get a bit of shock when you see how bad they are. In the first Mayo semi final in particular, the frees won vs frees conceded count, was off the charts. It was even worse in the Fermanagh quarter final. Take your beating with a bit of grace and, don't go looking for lame ass excuses, like blaming the ref, or phantom GAA conspiracies.

Dublin did get a load of handy frees in the second half but it was down to the referees love of hearing his own whistle. He allowed virtually no contact. Was he biased though? Not a chance.

Yeah I'd agree with that. The ref was annoying with some soft frees whenever a forward ran at a defender but I wouldn't have said he favoured Dublin over us. In the second half Dublin had way more of the ball so they were getting more frees. Simple as that really.

The 4 steps rule is the biggest problem in football and hurling

Felt sick watching the game In CP last night.
From the very first piece of play when Cooper failed to rise the breaking ball from the clash. I had a feeling it was gonna be a long cold night.

Cork were utterly terrible. I really hate criticising players but we have to face it now that most of these lads had their final chance. No heart, no fight, poor touch and no game plan from management. Again only 2 or 3 acquited themselves well.

Starting with the FB line. Eamonn Dillon is not great hurler. He usually plays a few league games with the dubs but can't make the champioship team. Well he made our lads look like junior hurlers. MacDonnell is not good enough simple as.. His pace was his biggest asset and if marking an equally fast lad he can't cope. He panics on the ball and turns into trouble and fouls way too much. Burke done better on Dillon when switched but was still very poor. I counted only twice did Burke run to meet the ball ahead of his man. All the backs insisted on trying to play the ball from behind their men.
Joyce was poor too. Given sloppy balls away.
MacDonald was rightly hauled ashore at HT. Murphy was the puck of the bunch when introduced. He was at fault for the 4th goal by taken too much out of the ball. But he was out in front of his man and fought very well for everything. Has to start the next day. I fear if SON was on it could of been worse.

Half backs. Again Calahane was the best of these while still not being great. Ellis was shocking. Murphy didn't touch a ball before being subbed. McLoughlin didn't do much better either.

Kearny didn't look like a IC player out there. All the energy in the world but way to light and his touch was very poor. Couldn't control the ball and blown off way to easily. Should of been subbed earlier. Lawton played well and tried till the very end. Fair play. Haughney was better than kearny but too light again I think.

What do u say about the HF forward lin. Lehane did his usual. Hit 4 points but still went missing from the game. Drifting in and out won't cut it. Cooper was terrible. They moved him to a sweeper role and didn't suit him. How he stayed on the pitch is beyond me.
Harnedy battled well but Rush was clearly on top here.

Inside line. Horgan again showed us his ugly lazy side. Was rightly subbed. I was always a fan of pa Cronin but his days are numbered. He don't contribute at all last night and missed two easy scores. O Farrell was the best of the bunch trued hard but is just too weak to burst through defenders abd go for goal.

Serious questions need to be asked and something has to change. 1b is clearly the level we are at wit these players. Younger lads have to get a look in. We are clearly going to be relegated now so put them in for next to games and start building for next year. Lads like Collins in goal, Murphy, Cashman, Cormak, Lee, Meade, Rikard Calahanev Kingston all need to be thrown in coz its clear the established lads are not up to it.

Did anybody see the dub forwards little training session while they were waiting for the 2nd half to start.? They looked and played like a team. Passing the ball around neatly. Being unselfish. Cunningham has turned the tide in the dub camp. He got rid of a lot if established lads and us now seeing the benefits. Why can't Cork do the same? It's insane to keep trying the same thing and expecting a different result.

Those first six words may come back to you in the future!

Dillon, Trollier, is perhaps not yet a great hurler, but he has the makings of one. He has great pace and a nose for goal and is thriving under GC whereas he was as you correctly say, a bit player up to now (although his goal in Wexford off the bench in 2013 saved Dublin the year they won Leinster!). You can be certain he will be starter in the Summer.

Overall, the two teams look brittle to me. Dub puckouts and short passing are enough to put heart across you but paradoxically are toughening up the half backs who are often fighting for Dublin ball inside own 40!

Two teams desperately looking for a formula that might lead to a half decent Summer and going to ship tankings along the way. GC perhaps a yard or two ahead at this stage.

Agree with you on that. I assume you mean players taking more than 4 steps and the ball being difficult to turnover and the knockon effects this all has in favouring big physical players at times running at defenders with no effort to avoid contact (barging by the rulebook).

Was in Croke Park last evening. Absolutely no redeeming features for the hurlers. It was simply awful. Gutless, no plan, nothing. They looked like an U21 side against a Senior side. Physically lighter in almost every position. The look of helplessness on Kingston's and Sully's faces said it all. We are currently, by a distance, the worst team of the 5 teams competing in Muster. Very hard to see the improvement required happening between now and May. Depressing.

Fair play to the footballers. After last week's drubbing, they showed a lot of bottle. We all know Dublin are well ahead of us, but at least we put it up to them.

hard to see improvement between now and 2020. whenever we decide to root out incompetence from the board, delegates right down through to the clubs the ten year plan to get back to the top can begin. Don't hold your breath

Is Micheal Martin the Cork Football Goalkeeper the son of Micheal Martin, the leader of Fianna Fail? I heard a lot of lads commenting about it over the weekend.
