The revenue online calculator is so far off with the omsp it's not even funny! That in turn has a drastic impact on the amount of vrt one pays.

Is it odd for insurace companies to ask for photos of each side of the car and the front and back before authorising claims?

No need to ask in what direction the inaccuracy lies  or in whose favour.

Sometimes I don't think Revenue and NCTS appreciate what a nice revenue stream the VRT is - and how having more 2nd hand imports benefits THEM.

In other words the exchequer BENEFITS from more 2nd hand imports - as they are imo bought by people who wouldn't be buying new.

Its better to get 10 cars in at 1500 euro average VRT then one car at 5,000 euros.

    (10 x 1500 = 15,000)

Lads, anyone here use the app Fuelly? I want to use it but I don't know if I can afford to fill my tank up on every refill. Any workarounds for this?

That as well as the weak euro at the minute means it's only certain cars that are even worth brining in. Is it titanium spec focuses your looking at still like the one you linked a while ago ?

Forgetting the milk is a pain in the hole :v.

Never understood why studs and not just a bolt. I was given a bit of advice years ago by an aul lad who restores old bikes from back in the day. 'On older yolks, unless you really have to, leave it the **** alone!'

Whenever you've the spare brim your tank then never let it go below half. ;)

Think that's the only way to go so I'd say. Going from a 40L tank to a 60L isn't fun!

Im going to start this when I go on work placement in april I think it's alot easier to keep the tank topped up than to have to spend 70 quid on fuel. Although my commute is not that far so Id say if I fill up once a week it won't cost that much maybe 30 quid.

Just looked back and I haven't actually brimmed the tank since 2013

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,875 ✭✭✭Foxhole Norman

I only ever fill my tank but I never leave it go below a quarter, I used to just throw in €20 or so into the Yaris but that'd do it for a week!

I'm the same, my commute would only cost me 25-30 a week. The dilemma is forking out for the first brimming :P

Try an 85L tank. Then try filling it from near empty @ €1.70 / ltr.

Thankfully I've only a 70L tank to fill now and fuel is a little cheaper.

Shuddered at the thought of that! What did ya have with an 85L tank? If petrol goes back up to €1.70 I'll be priced out of my car!

Ya, well toying around with lots of different cars for the craic, but taking the focus for example, a 12 reg can be gotten for 10k stg. Revenue calculate it at being worth 19k euro, therefore giving a vrt quote of over 3k euro or thereabouts.

Yeah but you'll probably find that you're driving it a lot more than the yaris.
I brim mine every time I fill it only because the 3/4 line on the gauge is full but I'm not risking empty being 1/4

Youd probably get a 12 reg focus here as cheap problem is they are nearly all 95bhp 1.6 tdci poverty spec. Is this as a replacement to the mondeo or focus you have ?

Lol... on my old almera empty was about 1/8th a tank below the empty line... ended up playing fuel light bingo quite a bit. Eventually lost too :pac:

E38 735. Also had a 6.6L Trans Am at the time. Smaller tank (60L I think) but it was rather thirsty as you can imagine. Round trip to Cork, which I did a few times, was setting me back €150.

that just sounds like the gauge is reading of by a quarter so most likely at 0 in your car there would be a quarter of a tank left. But thats assuming the gauge is still working and just reading off. I suppose it's not worth chancing.

My focus wouldn't work when it got to 1/4 of a tank as it had no lift pump I learned that the hard way though by spending 4 hours sitting on the hard shoulder of the m8 waiting for a tow truck.

You actually owned something that wasn't a Golf?

Nothing set in stone, if it happens will probably realistically be next year. But the focus I have now will be out the gap. Don't want a 1.6 focus. I want the full hog. I settled on zetec with the mondeo, won't be "settling" again. If I do go for a focus, it'll be a 2.0 163bhp titanium X, half leather seats, 17" 15 spoke alloys in either a darkish red or ice white.

Yep I had a focus before my golf and an astra before that. The focus had more wrong with it than right just constant issues. I only had the focus 14 months and I had to pump some money into it.

Shiiiiit and I thought my €50 round trip was bad. No regrets, the 735 was a joy I'd imagine.

Both were. The 735 now belongs to a fellow boardsie who has done a lot with it.

Actually speaking of fuel I got a call from my mother an hour ago wondering that if the fuel light had just come on would she be ok to do 50km today and tomorrow. So that then my dad could fill her car tomorrow evening when he gets home from the uk. She actually has a fear of fuel pumps so my dad or me always end up getting her diesel. She doesn't like touching the pump with her hand :pac: id say she gets fuel herself about twice a year and that would only be because she was really stuck for it.
