Could also be an ex Army Officer car maybe?

A lot of high end Jap stuff used to hit the UK via Ireland in the 90's. Remember the ZZ plates?

That's what I was thinking as well, a lot of gtvs in the UK are original German registered and bought by people stationed there. Think it worked out a good bit cheaper there as well due to less tax

The same thing is/was happening in Iraq Afghanistan etc
I applied for a job as a salesman over there (Iraq) selling low or zero tax vehicles to us and uk armed forces.

This was about 2008 when I was looking at emigrating for work reasons.

You were actually going to move to Iraq?

Would you live to the Iraqi population or special compounds?

How much oil does a e39 520i take? Thinking of ordering some oil. Also what is the best oil as well and spark plugs?
Foxhole Norman you would be the best to answer these questions.

so bored reading the spam in the inbox i come across this gem from chill insurance
    10 Fuel Efficiency Tips.

    1. Keep your tyres inflated at all times(:pac:). We can tend to forget to do this but a fully pressurised tyre can help improve fuel efficiency greatly.

I wonder if many people would take that literally or at least interpret it badly. Hmmm fully pressurised you say... what does the machine go up too... 60 psi... Great. Maybe folk are smarter than I think :pac:

How hard is to say maintain your tyres at the manufacturers recommended pressure or whatever.

Wanna buy a hape? 500 euro. Needs nothing / new everything :pac:.

I've money there just must not spend it on a car! Have to drive this yolk into the ground first. Could be feckin years with this tank. Some lovely Alfa sportwagons on the DD. Trying to work out how to get one all day! Wait another month or two would be the sensible option. Probably be none about then as you say.

Found this page in the E39 528i manual. Says 6.5L so I reckon you're around the same.

Personally I'd go for Castrol Edge 5w-30 or Mobil 1 5w-30. For spark plugs, NGK Iridium tipped are always highly recommended. I have them in my own E46 now and have had no problems. Either those or Bosch are all I'd go with.

micks garage have a good deal on castrol 5w40 bmw ll04 and money off deals on certain order values til end of Feb. 2 bottles castrol and fancy Dan plugs would get you €15 off I'd say.

Was a good few years back but I would have lived in a "safe" area , giant army compound, more like a small town in it's own right..

I applied for the same job :D

I remember the adverts for it in the Indo.

Like Dorgasm said it's 6.5 litres. I use Castrol Edge 5W-30 myself. When I'll be servicing mine I'll either be going with Bosch or NGK plugs, probably Bosch.

I was looking into car rental as I am going on a class trip to Malaga next month. I didn't expect to be able to get a car due to age many website wouldn't let me. But I tried argus car rental and stuck in 20 as my age and it brought me to cars and has no problem with my age. So I clicked golf or similar and it's giving me car rental for 8 day for 32 euro and it's not per day this can't possibly be right can it ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,480 ✭✭✭YbFocus

    That must be per day.
Also, why not try something different!
    Jesus :)

Had a look there myself and it is 25 for 8 days for me middle next month. Now if you scroll down a golf can cost a fair bit more. It all depends on the company I guess and you don't know who booked with til it's confirmed I think. Imagine it's a small company wouldn't know what there cars be like...

No it wasn't per day but when you look deep into the terms and conditions you still have to be 21. Found one company that will take 18s up but there is a surcharge making the total 250 quid for even polo size which is very strong money. Could do without one anyway I don't think I would get the use out of it to justify 250 euro.

Friend of mine rented a Megane for 4 days in Malaga, paid €9.60. He'd be closer to 50 too. Did it online. No idea what he did re insurance/tank of petrol. He laughed that his dinner cost him more the first night.

My cousin rented a Jetta TDI with a full tank of diesel last month for £50 for the week. Policy was to return the car empty.

BPMull, they will add on a surcharge which will be paid locally. Normally €30 extra a day which is madness alright.

Yep this company is 9.99 a day it's sixth car rentals I've heard of them before. But that means it's 20 euro per day for the car plus 10 euro per day for the surcharge. We mightened bother renting cars at all as we would need 3 and there is about 13 people going might stick to public transport.

Sixt is a pretty big rental company.

I used Malagacar. Got an Ibiza 1.9 TDI for the week for feck all.
That's a few years ago, but they were so good to deal with.

Done a fair bit of travelling on wet windy roads this evening. At nearly every turn, the esp light was flashing. It's very rear that I'd spot it, but was very excessive tonight. Driving style wasn't really any different. Could it be acting up?

They seem to be the only big company that will allow under 21s to rent in Spain I could always just rent one for the last few days either. I have to sort a credit card too as I don't have one apparently It's easy enough to get a student one of your bank.

What brand tyres are you using?

EBC Greenstuff pads have landed. Now to order some Bosch discs and see if I get some better braking.
