Right, so I've done just over 300km on the Accord now and 3 things I've noticed, 1 potentially expensive :(
I'll start with the good. The clutch bite and gearbox are lovely and smooth and pops into gear with no issues whatsoever.
It's turn of speed for such a big car is quite impressive and the cruise control is excellent.
The space, my God the space is enormous and I can just about see how many things I could fit in there.
All the electrics work (apart from one thing) and the auto wipers a surprisingly nice feature to have.
    The bad :(
Both heated seats don't work, the lights go on but no heat. Which makes me think either the connections have broken or the fuse has gone.
The satnav requires the original Honda CD to upgrade the maps. No CD with the car so no satnav.
The shakes a lot when braking from above a certain speed. Around town they are fine but on the motorway it shakes a lot (disks?).
Now for the issue which is worrying me a lot.
When you start it from cold the EML isn't on. Once it's up to temp though and (I've only noticed this in 3rd gear) and you floor it the car picks up speed, then surges at this point the EML comes on and the car goes back to normal however the EML stays on.
This I'm seriously hoping isn't the turbo or timing chain :(

Heated seats could be relays , fuses or heater pads, if your handy with a multimeter then its easy to find.

Eml definitley a lambda or MAF sensor, probably the former.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,606 ✭✭✭toastedpickles

You might need new discs also

Aren't lambdas only on petrols? Mine is the diesel.
Re the MAF, I'd be very surprised if it was that as usually when the MAF goes then you can't rev over a certain amount.
I'll have a diagnostics done during the week and a test done on the seats.
Worst case scenario are the pads are gone. If yeah I'm leaving them alone.
The one thing that I think could be causing the EML is the fuel filter.
It was serviced 20k ago but the seller said he changed the oil not so long ago.
Going to have it serviced again on Saturday with new oil/filter and fuel filter.

Yeah I'm fairly sure the disks are gone.
Biggest challenge so far is finding the bloody satnav disk :/

is it vehicle specific? Or is it something that can be bought at a dealers? Might be able to sort you out if you can get it at qa dealers

I'm not too sure to be honest. Took a look at quite a few websites and it seems to be that only the 7th gen Accord CD will work.
People are recommending getting the original disk but some dealers are asking near enough 400 pounds for a cd.
May as well buy a sat nav if that's the case.
    Thanks though :)

My brother has been seriously unlucky since he rebuilt his EK. He's been desperately waiting 2 weeks for all the forms to get to Shannon and they tell him today that they never made it, looks like its going to be another few weeks before he csn get it on the road again.

How long would one can of plasti dip last? Like would one can do one alloy wheel with four coats or would one can last for two alloy wheels with four coats? I also remember somebody had a cheaper version of plasti dip and i cannot remeber the name of it.

So the service is due at 77k, just gone that now. In general with warranties and the like do you need to be getting it serviced bang on every 15k or is there a bit of leeway?

    good news everyone

last couple of mornings the handbrake on the drivers rear show seems to be sticking.

freed up when i drove off, may get worse,

wonder would WD40 knock it out ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,606 ✭✭✭toastedpickles

    It wouldn't hurt!

It won't help if the case arose you needed something big done, they'd have the ball in their corner if your letting servicing lapse.
Do it, for your own piece of mind anyway :)

I would say don't put the handbrake on as tight. you only need it tight enough so the car won't roll. I find most people put them on much tighter than is really needed.

Cheers, trying to hold off til pay day. :(... Actually checked online at the scheduled service intervals for my make of car and its every 20k so looks like garage has put me in for 5k early. I know its a guide but I'd say i'm covered if i wait a few weeks
