Don't want to clog up with a new thread; what's better, X5 or Q7?

You'd need to give a bit more info to allow people to give precise info.
Is it a diesel/petrol? What years are they?
Personally I'd go for an XC90.
Diesel, commercial (but esentially a car replacement), I suppose 2009-2012 or so.

He test drove a Range Rover Sport yesterday, likes it. Have reliability on these improved over the years?

Would you not just get a bus/train to go look at it? instead of blowing 200 quid on flights and a hotel?

He's in mainland Europe, Poland I think! :pac:

Verde is correct, I do contractual work in Poland so I spend most of time here and then come back mostly every weekend.
I'd be some feckin eejit to get a flight from Shannon to Dublin and book myself in a hotel near the airport just to go look at a car :D

Was it due to be done?

No, it was done about 20k ago. The intervals on the diesel S40 I believe are around the 50k mark.
    Effing raging.

Did a main dealer do it ?

Sickened. Went outside for a second to move the car into the garage and it popped the moment it started.
Thought it was the starter at the beginning. Open the bonnet and saw a piece of the belt sticking out of the cover.
    What a fcuking week.

Indy, it's just a 01. I've used him a good bit and never had an issue.

I had a wee chat with my buddy the other day. Remember I had a ford mondeo that I bought for 500eu? Which was a Tank and saved me thousands in 2 years. When I bought scooby, I parked it in the back and it was sitting there for about 6 months.
I did not bothered with it and just gave it away to my buddy as a "thanks", because he helped me to find a house back then. The damn thing started on first try  and he drove it back home to sort it out and resale it!
So car was sold to a couple for 400eu ( after my buddy sorted few cheap things and put nct on it ), who needed a cheap car to transport 2 big dogs to spain and then just scrap it. Turns out they got to Spain with flying colours and they liked Mondeo a lot so they drove for months too. Then came back to Ireland in it and then scrap it. Not because it was broken down, but just because they did not needed it and selling it on was just too much hassle.

That just shows how stupidly good Bangornomics cars can be. Best 500eu I ever spent and I bet best 400eu that couple spent!

quick one lads, i've a small bit of damage over one panel above one of the back wheels, bout a cm in diameter of paint damage but its slightly rusting, can i leave it for a while before it becomes an issue, happened bout 2 months ago. Car is an 11 so new enough

I really wouldn't be leaving it deco.
Even get a touch up and fill it in for now to prevent it getting worse.
Otherwise the bill may be a lot worse!

i don't think that's grossly out of line. my missus sister has been looking to trade in her 08 astra 1.6 sxi 3dr and is getting offered between €6 and 7k for it.

assuming the 1.4 is more desirable and after the dealer gets his cut, i don't think 8k is too bad.

i wouldn't personally spend 8k on one, but i don't think your friend was robbed.

Don't know, a quick look on DD you can get cheaper ones. Of course with a bit more km on the clock.
