you could change out the tires to a skinny pair, et viola! you're ready for crit racing :)

Wouldn't road race using cantis and discs are technically illegal. Would need a new chainset too as gearing is generally different.

Exactly, perfect excuse. Crit racing is great training for cyclocross.

Nah, road racing is too clean. I need a bit of CX-ish rebel spirit :)

BTW since we got a new bike last week there is absolutely no space in the hall for another one http://photos-b.ak.instagram.com/hphotos-ak-xap1/10449137_786101808117977_1524680414_n.jpg

This new Cyclocross race will be held in and around the Dangan Sportsgrounds on the North end of the NUIG campus (head out past Newcastle on the N59 and take the right turn into the Dangan Sports Centre) this Sunday the 30th as part of the Connacht league.

It's the first time a race was organized here so a few unknowns but with there's a lot of variety in the lap (2km+), with lots of trees, some steps, a tough rooty bank to run up, riverside paths, off-cambering, etc. A lot of thought went into the course so it should be a good one.

Sign On 9:30-10:30, Kids race at 10:45 and Adults at 11:45.

There's three (or possibly four) of us heading down, looking forward to it.
Less than two hours from de M50 too and no Dublin Fixx race on.
Hopefully another few carloads of Dublin CX racers will make it across.

Last week's course showed good invention so I'm sure we'll be in for more of the goodness on Sunday.

Good stuff! The scene is not as developed in Connacht but momentum is growing; would be mighty to get a decent turnout. A lot of cyclists, like me, want to give it a try, though some of us roadies find the mud/roots/getongetoffgetonfalloffgeton a bit tough!

I presume there's no pre-reg for this race, just arrive and sign on?

If you are on Stalkbook you can pre-register.

(hopefully that also means that those who register can arrive down a bit later than 10.30am as the A race is at 12.45pm)

Only 2 hours from the M50 and looks a good race.

As per Peterx's link, you can pre-sign via the Connacht MTB Facebook page, or sign in on the day before 10:30. The sign-in crew are also the timekeepers so best not to be late as they'll be gone off to run the underage race!

That underage race kicks off at 10:45, with the Adult B race at 11:45 and the Adult A race at 12:45.

Now I just have to work out how to hop on without compromising any sensitive bodyparts and clip in without looking down for what feels like minutes to see where the pedals are! Surely one more hour of practice will do :-o

That's great Thanks. So just to confirm - it is OK to show up later than 10.30am once we have pre-signed?

Lakeside Wheelers in association with Westmeath Sports Partnership are hosting the first round of a new kids and adults cyclocross race series next Sunday, 30th of November. St Loman's GAA, Mullingar have kindly offered the use of their sports complex to run this event. (http://www.stlomansmullingar.gaa.ie/club-location)
This promises to be a fun filled afternoon with a complete underage program of fun races for U6, U8, U10, U12, U14 of all abilities. All that is required is a thirst for some fun, a bike, helmet and most likely a change of clothes and footwear for afterwards as muck and puddles are to be expected!! Mums and Dads can help out the balance bike and stabilizer brigades if required. So come prepared.
The main circuit will be open to all for around 20 - 30 mins after the kids races for anyone that might want to get a taste of what cyclocross is all about.
This will be followed by the U16, Junior and Adult event. Here you will get to see the big guns try their hand at just over 45 mins of torturous racing through grass, gravel, sand and plenty of obstacles thrown in to keep it very interesting for the racers and spectators alike.
Sign on will open at 12.30pm at St Loman's Clubhouse and will close at 12.50pm sharp.
    Kids Races start at 1.00pm.
    No Cycling Ireland licence required.
    Sign on is €2

    Sign on is €10
No specialist equipment required. If you can cycle your bike on grass, you're good to go. As this will be a fun afternoon for all ages, we are hoping to see you all next Sunday for this club event. Spread the word!

Great result for David Conroy in junior race at Milton Keynes today.

@meercat - do you have dates for the rest of the series please? First I've heard about these races.

I heard that he finished in 13th , 2 places behind the series leader , 3 mins down on the winner. He stayed on his borrowed bike the entire race , others were changing Twice per Lap

    Hi folkes,
I'm currently looking for a new hobby and have been looking through few threads and YouTube clips of cyclocross. I'm just wondering if there are any clubs etc in rathfarnham. I understand the season is nearing an end and I can't get a bike till jan (previous bike tcx cyclocross was stolen) but would enjoy being a spectator till I get bike. What does everyone do in the off season aswell?

I am thinking of doing a few cyclocross races. I am taking my young lad to the underage races so was going to have a go at the B race when I am there. Just wondering if anyone has a size 55 bike for sale. Just a cheap one to get me started. Thanks

Another great show put in the Connacht CX league. This week in the NUIG Dangan sports facility with heated everything, heated toilets, hot hand washing water, heated underfloor heating in the hot shower, hot tea and coffee and some hot and heavy racing before the shower and after the toilet.
The Fat wheeled bike was again prominent in the B race and the kiddies looked to be having great fun.
Some fairly casual gridding found me ahead of my car pooling buddies Niall and Aaron but Redmond O'Toole had the best start and took a clear lead into the first run up which encouraged his teammate Dave Lawless to follow and then he too found himself in an early lead after Redmond unfortunately punctured. Liam, Aaron and myself were in close pursuit as we dropped down onto the very picturesque river path and that was the race for the next few laps with all of us trying out different positions from 1st to 4th with various mishaps and good lines either making or losing time. Niall had unfortunately had a burp in his front wheel and lost pressure and speed whilst the pressure of the early lead had lead to Dave giving it maximum sox but eventually letting Liam, Aaron and myself past. On the penultimate lap Aaron had the pole position but a tree must have moved as he unfortunately tipped into it and lost enough speed to allow a sneaky overtake but in a close race the finish line came for Liam, Aaron and myself within a few seconds of each other with Dave in 4th loving it so much he headed out on a lap 8, of 7!
All in all a great course in another stunning location. a 7 minute lap this week with loads to offer interest. Thanks again to all the organisers for a great race. Plenty of sambos on offer after too.

I'm not sure to be honest just wanna do few cyclo races they look awesome and like a lot of fun. But is there any clubs that like have tracks etc that practice weekly or the likes? Don't wanna just turn up at race and turn it into m50 with me not knowing what's going in sprawled across a track.

Did this today too. Great fun, well organised and friendly bunch. First CX race for me (first bike race in 30 years in fact) and I can see this being addictive. Met Taxman there and got to chat at the end of the B race, once I'd retrieved my lungs where I'd dropped them on the course!

I believe there'll be a race in Westport House on 4th January as the Connacht Championship. Looking at last year's video it'll be another great course.

There are any clubs with a specific cyclocross focus (except maybe Team Worc who organise the Fixx series). There are training sessions listed on the Irish cyclocross website on Tuesday evenings, but think these are only on at the start of the season.

I train in Phoenix Park, a few from boards met up in the lighter evenings for some training. Best advice this time of year is just get out and ride your bike offroad as much as you can in all conditions.

One naughty person got a telling off after swapping bikes as he didn't swap the number over to the pit bike.
