Has anybody been to their live show? Review?

They don't start off their show with the same gusto as they used to.. it's a bit "ya hi you're listening to Dermot and Dave".. I'm not sure they're happy and it translates.

I agree. IMO this time slot just isn't working for them. It certainly isn't for me! It's just too early and three hours is way too long. It's such a pity as I really do like them both but I think they're really struggling.

they do seem to mention their comedy tour an awful lot. Do today fm have some financial benefit from it ? Can't see why else they get away with such self promotion !!

Went to the Kilkenny show, really enjoyed it. If you like the show you'll enjoy if you just prefer bitching about them on here then its not going to change your opinion of them.

I have a friend in Limerick who works with some guys promoting live events and they said a lot of the gigs aren't selling and that's why they are plugging it so much on the radio. Then they are making up the numbers with free tickets for listeners.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,005 ✭✭✭✭Toto Wolfcastle

It's a pretty big tour and although I really enjoy their show, I'm not sure why they thought they could sell all those tickets. I was interested in going to their Dublin gig but the tickets are too expensive for what it is.

Great thanks, I'm going tonight and really enjoy theirs show (when I do get to listen to it) and wouldn't dream about bitching about them on here :D

Venues looking pretty full according to their Instagram account

Was at the show in Limerick on Friday night, was sitting one row from the back and there was a good few empty seats up there, everywhere else looked full. So maybe not exactly sold out..

Nonetheless it was a great show! Cheeks were sore from laughing!
I do think it would have been better if it was on in Dolans Warehouse...(not being able to drink in the lime tree theatre was a buzzkill)

It was good last year when they did it too. I really miss the lunchtime show, despite most features being retained the excessive listenership interaction and pointless interviews make the show drag.

    Also, #BringBackMack.

Yeah but I wonder is this transition to more slightly more serious stuff due to the fact that they're 45 (maybe?!) and know they can't do the eejiting, messing around type radio show forever.

Still find them very funny, laughed out loud yesterday when Des Bishop told them to stop being Ray and Dermot started doing impressions of D'arcy saying to Jenny that they were heading to meet the taliban!

I've gone back to Staying with Red Fm now from 6am all the way till 10.

I left breakfast and went back to Dempsey when KC left because Colm O'Sullivan is atrocious but once Foley started I went straight back and he's back to his best.

I was planning on going over to KC once he starts on 96fm but I can't see him being better than Foley at the moment and I probably would have broke out in a rash turning my dial to 96fm because it's almost 17 years since I listened to that absolute **** show of a station.

I was always a Prendeville man when Anton was on Today Fm because he just never clicked with me he always came across as fake and doing an impression of someone as opposed to being himself on radio but once D&D moved to that slot I gave them a few months but this week the funny bits just aren't outweighing the forced serious talk segments so I'm back to Prendeville.

I used to go from Red to Today at 12 till 2:30 for D&D and I also stayed with it for Muireann and Lenny who I enjoyed immensely but once that innuendo riddled, nasal speaking, did I mention I'm gay, did I mention I'm from Tallaght, happy days and the most unfunny supposed funnyman started I turned over to Nicky and Jenny followed by Tracy Clifford but this last week Nicky and Jenny just have too many private in jokes that they laugh to themselves and no one knows what's going on and Tracy is just meh, totally average, totally innofensive.

I'm not even gonna state my reasons for not listening to the generic DJ voice Fergal Darcy as I think I lasted 3 days with his self importance and ego.
And anyone that's all of a sudden saying that he's growing on you and annoying you less, then Today FM's spin that he's got 10000 more listeners and he's got the fasting growing music show is working on you.

So I'm back to Philip Burke on Red for a good mix of music, local news and a few brain teasers and trivia.

My go to at 4:30 was Eoghan McDermott on 2fm because his show started off fun and light with messing and music and competitions but as of late he's shoehorned in a LOT of mental health interviews, some unknown band in studio 8 which he's trying to make a thing and a complete anti Trump attitude with some DC journalist.
Another thing that annoys me with him is he takes a break in the middle of even the most serious interviews to play a song and then comes back to the interview, it's disgustingly disrespectful.
Oh and Joe McNally Jesus H Christ don't get me started on that Chelsea Handler wannabe, she's like a female Al Porter, saying anything to provoke controversy be it about abortion or the morning after pill or marriage she is an absolute creature and a disgrace to the females of Ireland, I really hope no girl out there is using her as a role model. Ugggghhhhhh!!

So I switch to Dave Mac on Red cause he does some good segments and he seems like he's having fun which is always nice to listen to.

From 7pm to 10pm on the Kitchen radio it's a no brainer to listen to Izzy on Red doing a mix of good music and local news and showbiz, the alternative is Game on which I used to like but the level of enthusiasm from the hosts is below flat lining, if you were their family member you'd turn off the machine,
The two Louise's just try to be too different, hip and alternative for their own good and basically play the most obscure tripe possible.

So that's me very happy to stay with Red Fm from 6am to 10pm.

And I'm 35 so I'm not some teen looking for Justin Bieber and Ed sheeran songs but I enjoy some chart music with the odd classic thrown in which Red FM achieve effortlessly.

    Anyone else on your hitlist?

Look I'm just stating my opinions and how my daily radio routine has changed and mainly because of Today Fm's new shake up.

You shouldn't take my post as a hitlist but as a reflection of how national radio has gone to the absolute dogs over the past 3 years.

    Really, which part is rubbish?
That he has a generic DJ voice?
That he has a huge ego?
That he's full of self importance?
That Today Fm are spinning his 10000 new listeners which impressionable people hear and think to themselves "oh he can't be that bad with figures like that, I think I'll tolerate him now that there's so many other people tolerating him"?

That I'm not capable of reasoned, objective thinking and I'm only influenced by a broadcast company's spin to influence my way of thinking. FYI, I hadn't heard the JNLRs, I was under the impression that Today FM was down across the board.

Two of those points were often thrown Foley's way when on Today FM too in fairness (and I say that as a fan of his).

As for the last point completely disagree. Couldn't care less about his listeners. Himself and Ed Smith are less awkward together, he is less obnoxiously irritating and he plays better music between 2.30 and 4.30 than the rest of the daytime shows generally.

Very true, Foley was full of self importance, inflated ego etc on Today FM but the key difference is that he was highly entertaining to listen to regardless. D'Arcy is painful to listen to.

"Whole Lotta Love" by Led Zepplin was played in is entirety as part of Cheese and Crackers. It's a shame that the sort of music that's not on the playlist only seems to be played as part of some feature like this, rather than just being part of the playlist. I know Paula played Stairway to Heaven a couple of weeks back, which may have been part of something involving a couple of songs where the listeners have to decide what they want to hear. It's was on Al's show from memory.

A few of us 'oldies' who still listen to the radio were talking about that the other day. The mix of music on the radio 20 or 30 years ago was a lot more random than today. You would have a good number of current chart hits along with new releases and the usual linkups by the presenter but there would be a 'classic hit' (I hate the term) as well nearly every hour to cater for the older listners.

Other than 'Cheeze and Crackers', TodayFM seems to have dropped that concept from their shows and I miss the randomness of that style of radio. You can practically name 9 out of 10 songs coming up in the next hour these days before they are played.

Down with that sort of thing!:(

It used to be an eclectic mix of songs except the Fenton/Duffy/Ferg shows which had mostly current pop

Thats why I switched stations, as much as I like the chat shows on it, the same terrible songs all day long was too much for me.

20-30 years ago you didn't have a music database where every song is categorised and weighted which slots nicely into a rotation algorithm based on market research and focus groups, all designed to be as inoffensive and bland as possible so as to keep you listening passively and not risk you saying "Ugh, hate this song, wonder what's on the other side?" as much as possible.

I've long felt that there HAS to be more of a scope for a happy medium where shows can choose a bigger portion of their own music while still sticking to a few playlisted songs to bookend things, but hey, what do I know. If the playlist system wasn't working they wouldn't be doing it I guess.
