the interview with the crazy american yesterday was good. I nearly fell off the ladder when listening

they should do more of that sort of stuff
I have zero interest in stuff they link onto their social media platforms

Both of them as so uncomfortable doing serious stuff. The other morning after the Barcelona attack, they had to do a piece on it. It's so obvious they are uncomfortable doing serious stuff but are forced to

I'd love to hear Matt Cooper doing "say stuff that suits the music". Every presenter has their strong points and as you say the above isn't theirs BUT I do feel they do well and show empathy where needed.

They shouldn't really be covering serious stuff though. Even this morning whoever was standing in started having serious topics on and I switched stations. If I want current affairs there's RTE and Newstalk in the morning, if I want an escape from such things on radio I don't want to be hearing the same stuff on Today FM.

I think they are on holidays and Muireann is standing in again! Yeah I've more or less stopped listening despite being one of their biggest fans on the lunchtime slot.

They're on holidays way too regularly to build up any momentum. Muirrean is the new Phil in Cawley. A safe and slightly dull pair of hands.

Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this, I said something similar in the Al Porter thread.....her fans didnt like it

You're not the only one. She's ok but can be a bit much. Sometimes she's just too enthusiastic about the most ridiculous things.

She's much too enthusiastic for me in this slot but I quite enjoy her in the 12-2.30 slot.

Lets face it, anything is better than what's on there atm.

They've had way more than that by my reckoning. Closer to school teacher holiday allocation than the rest of us poor plebs.

Or another option, don't Train to be anything, be funny and controversial to a tiny minority of the population, full a certain companies demographic and become a lunchtime host and get all those holidays too.

Love the show, regularly laughing my head off as quietly as possible at my desk

I wouldn't call young people a tiny minority.

Dermot and Dave are far from young people either!!!!

Jesus I can't stand that muireann O'Connell that's filling in for the two lads. Her voice is so annoying and she's a real sickener the way she goes on.

I doubt they are permanent employees, more likely to be contractors on a pay by day basis, in which case there wouldn't be a holiday allocation as such.

Aren't they both comedians too? At least Dermot is anyway. They effectively have two jobs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,047 ✭✭✭Clonmel1000

She had some I think today fm employee on earlier talking about some ad BOI had running. Not really sure what the ads about as I am not on twitter or Facebook etc but for some reason the guests D4 south side accent coupled with Muireanns mid Atlantic accent nearly drove me to distraction. Sorry but random I know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,558 ✭✭✭paddylonglegs

I don't mind muireann, quite like her voice actually. Iv listened to her since the phantom fm days and always found her quite engaging but maybe better suited with a co-presenter than on her own.

Yeah, she has gone over the top with trivial subjects recently, but so have most of the today fm jocks in the last couple of years.

    Maybe I'm just getting old...

    Allegedly.

Much like Al Porter, it seems to me that the radio gig is just a side-show / supplement to their comedy circuit. Hence being on holidays or off air or however the pendants want to put it - every other week.

    Really???
What do you classify as young?
But that's who their audience is.

That's the best description ever for her accent- mid Atlantic!!!!
It's just so over the top. You just want to tell her to calm down.

    Late Teens to early 30's

Have I upset you in anyway....that's a lot of question marks.

I bet it was Richard Chambers. I've seen him throw these faux outrages on twitter in the past. Gavan Reilly is another one. Their nice guy routine doesn't convince me as sincere.

What was her input out of interest?

The reaction to that BoI ad was was over the top. It's not even the most smarmy ad that BoI have done recently, let alone Irish banks in general. I don't even think they were suggesting it was a good thing to do. TodayFM seem prone to these low-hanging fruit outrage topics.

Muireann is ok but the awkward silences while she hyperventilates (laughs) at something that wasn't even that funny is very annoying and a bit embarrassing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,539 ✭✭✭johnire

Yea. She really is over the top. She's just way too enthusiastic.

I'd still rather her over Dermot, Dave or Al Porter.

Apologies def wasn't Richard Chambers I think it may have been a member of her production team.

That was Kim Buckley. She's the morning newsreader on weekdays. It's normally her, followed by Susan Keogh.

Anyone get the impression D&D haven't actually decided what the "shur lookit isn't that it" answer is until someone says it...? Like the wait until the day they want to give it away and say -"yep you're right- how did you think of that..."
Maybe a bit cynical of me! :D

Noticed they aren't on the radio today and I know it might be a coincidence but yesterday during 'Say Stuff that suits the music', Dermot made a joke about tv shows in the 70s being hosted by paedophiles....

I thought it was bit rough and might draw a few complaints.

    Anyone else notice it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,470 ✭✭✭JoeA3

Well... they're missing every other week for one reason or another - their radio show almost seems like a part time gig, so I think you might be reading too much into it.

I wouldn't be a fan, being honest. He sounds devoid of personality or something.

Did D & D mention anything about being off for the two days?

They rarely mention when they will be off

Yea. I've picked up on that. What's the big deal about saying it in advance. It would be nice to know.
