I was just thinking on the hurlers last night. I attend a lot of club matches and I am fairly sure that Dunne has the vast majority of the best players in the county on that panel in terms of talent and ball players. It is a desire issue with that team because they are not that bad. Who do you blame for the lack of leadership? Personally I think it must be management and it looks to me that the players are not playing for them. If this is the case and they have lost the dressing room they should go immediately as they would have absolutely no future.
Its ironic really, given that I heard a rumour during the week that Danny Sutcliffe had left the Dublin panel due to Cunningham losing the Dublin dressing room, yet they beat us by double scores. Sad indictment in my view.
    Any opinions?

With last Saturday in mind I am finding myself having to revisit this post. That performance was not one of a team who were not behind their manager. Did they make mistakes? Yes. Dis their touch and finishing look off at times? Yes. Did they look like they really wanted it and cared? Yes. Did they look leaderless? No.

Well done to the lads. Cork are no world beaters but the boys hurled them off the pitch and should have won by a lot more. Lee Chin makes some difference with his physicality and ball winning ability. Can they beat Waterford? Really I think it depends on which Waterford team turn up on the day. A young team like that on the back of a hiding could be ripe for the takings.

One swallow does not a summer make, but credit where it is due. I am quick enough to criticise when it goes bad so I should give credit when it goes well. Pride restored and onwards and hopefully upwards.

Despite suffering from injuries & players leaving the panel, the team produced much improved performances against Offaly & Cork, hard working defensive covering, more direct style of play, good interplay, more accuracy from frees & some young lads taking their chance of becoming regulars in the starting lineup.

Whilst there was some mistakes that would have been exploited by much better opposition, there was more spirit, teamwork & belief on show, particularly against Cork when the lads responded well to conceding a late goal. So well done to all involved, the team & management.

Back into the QF so hope springs eternal, Waterford got it all wrong against Tipp, I felt even at HT they looked well beaten & their game plan wasn't working, as Grueller mentioned above, a lot will depend on how WT set themselves up.

Liam Griffin mentioned their sweeper system in an interview in late May before we played Dublin, he obviously thinks it can be overcome as Tipp proved.

About this time last year Davy turned up at a few midweek training sessions in Rathnure and put the seniors through their paces .

Not a big surprise to some .

Who/What is bankrolling the Wexford Co Board to enable them to capture 2 heavyweights like Davy and McEneany?

Think they held two of those draws for cars in the last year with tickets costing 50e each and sure then theres the local lottos .

Local Lotto are for clubs and the model county draw for cars won't even scratch the surface of the figures rumoured for Davy not to mind Seams McEneaney as well.

What sort of outfit are Oulart this year, I see there out on Sunday against the Offaly Champions?

Certainly appear to be conditioning themselves for winter hurling. Didn't reach near their full potential in the county final against Cloughbawn, but at the same time showed impressive calmness and not a hint of panic to eventually reel them in in the final quarter.

Have seen them a few times this year and one thing that strikes me is the fluidity of their panel. Not only do they have specialists in every position, but they also have players capable of fitting in in different positions in their system. For example, Eoin Moore has played midfield and wing-back so far this year, while Rory Jacob has played as a "third midfielder" but also as a traditional scoring forward. Definitely have the numbers to make a proper tilt at the AI.

Getting the Leinster monkey off their backs means there is probably less pressure on them to perform now, and that makes them an even more dangerous prospect.

Double header in Gorey on Sunday to open the season with hurlers and footballers taking on UCD in the Walsh Cup and O'Byrne Cup respectively.
