And sure why not. And when they are sent to prison it's Sky tv, Yoda, music lessons, room service

With this, what has Yoda to do?

Wow 69 convictions and never served a prison sentence. I think its time we introduced the 3 strikes and your jailed for life rule over here, jam them all into the prisons and let them kill each other.

I think so too. We need a few politicians to grow some.

Build 2 huge prisons in areas crying out for jobs. We'll have all the construction jobs and the the prison officer and ancilliaries jobs as well. Then start dishing out some proper sentences for violent crime.

What I would do is double up on the numbers currently in prison then create a 12hr rotation, half the prisoners work 12hrs while the other half sleep eat wash etc, then swap around at the end of the 12hrs.

That way not only do you get free labour but you also get twice as many scumbags locked up. You create employment by way of prison guards and builders to oversee the work being done which in turn generates revenue for the economy while getting scum off the streets.

They could even be put to work building their new prisons, I would say 12hrs hard labour per day would be more of a deterrent than the cushy life enjoyed by the prisoners today.

Or go for the lower cost option of re-opening Spike Island for those convicted of violent crime. After three convictions all sentences must be served in Spike.

Visitors one day per month only.

Make the time spent in detention really hard, really unpleasant, but not unhealthy. Feed them properly, but not extravagantly. No mobile phones, no drugs.

    No more revolving doors.

Bullets are too kind, they should be flayed to death and their parents should be fined for producing human waste.

What are you gonna do when they tell you, no fuk off I'm not doing any work? Extra time in solitary ? For every single prisoner.

Also, how are they supposed to build a prison? You can't just start stacking blocks and hope for the best. You need , Yknow, skills and know how.

Some of the torture porn fantasies in here are getting stoooopid.

    Put them in jail...

    Flaying them alive? Jesus wept.

Don't forget the danger hundreds of pissed off, violent criminals can pose to a few security guards...

Sure give them hammers and shít so that they can build a prison, not a chance they'll decide to do someone's head in.

That's why they will be overseen during the work, they can do the manual labour on site simple and wouldn't need much skill.

If they refuse to work then you double their sentence, they can sleep outside too and have bread and water for their meals, they can earn a place inside and a decent meal by working.

Why put them in jail? they are worthless and i don't want my wages going to feeding them and housing them, no reason for them to be kept alive.

Give the guards some guns put them above the site in towers anyone steps out of line, bang bullet to the head.

You can't just double someones sentence for refusing to work, that's bollocks right there.

I would rather employ a bunch of out of work builders to do it, they get a job, plus the building will be made to a decent standard.

That's right, anyone who goes to jail doesn't deserve to live.

Death sentences for some, miniture American flags for everyone.

Course you can all you need to do is introduce a change in the legislation, what would you like to happen to the prisoners then? Maybe give them a PS4 or Xbox 1 each along with a mobile phone and all the drink and drugs they can take? Oh wait!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,743 ✭✭✭✭listermint

Well work details (as in making stuff) would be a good idea and would give prisoners skills.

Work Details or Confinement, im sure most of the prison population would prefer to make road signs or what not rather than staring at a wall.

I would like to see prisoners serve the sentence they receive.

Not every prisoner gets a ps4 or an xbox1, that's conjecture. Drink and drugs aren't provided by the state, that is something that needs to be worked on. But I would rather have a couple of junkies in there getting high and causing no hassle, then have hundreds of people detoxing each time they come in and going mad.

No prisoner should get a PS4 or Xbox1 or have any sort of electronic entertainment its a prison not a holiday camp. If they want to sit around all day playing with computers they should quit breaking the law which will enable them to sit around home all day.

It's not a holiday camp your right.

But the computers keep them occupied, so they don't wreck the place while they are in there.

While they are prisoners, some level of decency has to be levelled at them. The day of the shackles and public floggings has gone whether you like it or not.

Why does any level of decency have to afforded to them, the reason they are there is because they have not afforded that to someone else.

Time to bring back the shackles and floggings I think.

Sure yeah, flaying them alive is a great alternative.

Will you be acting the butcher so or would that be a bit too much for you?

Great idea, I'd love to see the uproar when one of them shoots a guard/builder/the wrong person by accident. Not to mind the need to put the guilt of murdering someone on the guards.

If you don't afford them decency, then how can we pass judgement on them?

All of the torture porn fantatists in here sit behind their keyboards passing out death sentences of the most horrific means, which they expect judges to implement but would never do themselves. If they have wishes like that; to impart violence upon people, what then gives them any right to judge people who impart violence in real life.

It gives me a headache reading them every time I see one of these threads.

Put them to work alright, but give them skills which will enable them to go out and get work.

I know it won't work with everyone, the recidivism rates are too high, but you combat this with a strong education from a young age and consistent sentences for crimes. But we have to make a start somewhere, we can't just execute people we don't like.

To be fair. forget the shackles and all that nonsense.

But giving lads luxuries that many people cant afford just to keep the occupied smacks of left crap.

Why cant they be given books or skills ?

What is so wrong with 'work' for keep.

You cant reform anyone by giving them a PS4 and a rub on the back telling them the world has done them wrong.

You teach them value of things. e.g WORKING.

You don't execute people we don't like, if someone is a repeat offender rather than give them a slap on the wrist and let them go we would need to jail them for a very long time to stop them from reoffending. Now in order for that to work the whole jail time needs to be changed, criminals don't mind going to jail because they see it as an easy time which to be fair it pretty much is.

If you want to put in place things such as strong education and consistent sentences you still need to deter those people not interested in working who are more interested in making a living from crime from going to jail. Make jail an absolutely awful horrible place to be and more and more people will stop breaking the law just to avoid going to jail.

Many criminals appear to have the attitude that idiots work for a living so no matter what the education system is they wont avail of the benefits it offers, instead they will commit crime. Now if you put the prisoners to work they will soon come to realise that if they are going to have to work they would be better off getting paid for the work and would then choose to work outside of prison and avoid having to work while in prison for free.

Apparently the PS4s/Xboxes are bought by the families. Correct me if I'm wrong though, just thought I saw that said on some other thread here.

Like it or not; while they are in the custody of the state it is up to the state to look after them.

I fully agree re: work, but it has to be consistent, teach them skills they can use outside of prison. They can't work all day every day, even then your looking at insurance issues, wages and so forth.

Books, computers, tvs; they all just do the same thing, keeping the prisoners distracted so they don't wreck the place. While I don't agree with ps4's and xbox1 being given out, i've no problem with some older computers.
