I think Naughton is a better punt at 4.5m than Chambers. Rumors that Koscielny might miss Palace and with Per already out, I wouldn't say we're guaranteed to keep a cleanie.

Also, Rooney is running away with the captaincy poll on FFS currently so Giroud(c) is a bit of a risk

Will take your advice re: Rooney :)

I'd worry about Chambers even if Kos is fit. Wenger knows Pulis will play a tough hard hitting team. Will he chance a 19 year old against the aerial assault that is bound to come?

Monreal could play there along with Kos.

He coped well enough with City's more physical players yesterday

I wouldn't worry about him not starting, or indeed, not handling himself against Dinosaur Pulis' Palace

Is my defence too weak with a second 6.0 midfielder?

Forward line looks OK, Fletcher or Bojan will fill the 3rd striker spot.

Hendo was highlighted here somewhere and could be a real spot at his price especially if Can is played alongside Gerrard.

Isn't Southampton's first choice centreback pairing Fonte and Yoshida?

Yes Barring Terry and Evans its looking dodgy Hull might be a place to look Fairly cheep and a good 5 week start .

I would prefer Bojan he's got one hard match in the (W3) out of the starting 10 I may go for him myself .

Henderson mixes well with Siggy if your playing 3-4-3

Fletcher or Bojan is the $ question we all want solving, reckon it will switch and change till the last min.

Maybe Bruce of Hull at 4.0 could be a better shout for me?

Hendo/Siggy does look a good combo alright once Hendo gets forward a bit but worst case I can sell both and get Lamela starts real well.

Its Jelavic or Bojan for me
Would you not consider Chambers ( Ars ) @ 4.5M
Still undecided with Eriksen could change him for Siggy and free up 2M

If you go DDG 4.0 gk and Dunne over your 2 gks and evans you will have an extra 1.0 for your midfield with much the same coverage. If hoillett keeps his place he will be a great option. Im considering the 3 big guns up front option also.

Had a serious look at this option there and it's tempting but don't think I'll go for it. You're basically tearing up the rest of the team for a short term punt as I don't think 32.5m tied up in the front three will work long term at this stage of the season. If Sturridge had better fixtures GW1-3 I'd probably do it.

Worried about Sturridge v Southampton but think on fixtures Costa has to be in for the first few weeks at least.

While not entirely unhappy with it, there's a number of things wrecking my head!!!

Defense is a bit of a nightmare(with the budget allocated) - i'm basically looking at £23.5M to splash on 5 def's, and with my insistence on having one from Chelsea, it's proving quite troublesome. Luis i rate highly, but let's be honest none of us know for certain will he start gw1! Tomorrow's friendly may give us a better clue on the answer to that...

I'm happy to go with Hutton as my £4M def, couple of nice fixtures gw2-3, and won't be needed that often anyway. After that we have my 3X £4.5 def's. QPR good opening home fixtures so went for Ferdinand(funds being no issue would have chosen Caulker). Chambers in with a good chance of clean sheet gw1 and the almost inevitable price rises should that happen... he may indeed be good for gw1-3 appearances actually, when you consider the crucial champs league qualifiers sandwiched in between (i'd expect Kos-Mert to be starting those games for their experience). Lastly i chose Yoshida. He's £4.5M and currently nailed-on for Southampton, who after gw1 have a very nice run, especially at home. There is, i accept, the risk that Southampton buy another cb before the Sep 1 deadline and i'm left with a non-player...

i've heard Naughton mentioned in Walker's absence, have to say that one's tempting at £4.5M, although Spurs' defense has been very patched-up pre season(i'm not sure how they'll actually fair once the real business is under way!), Mariappa very tempting also but yet another one we just don't know will he start!! Anyway any help/advice would be welcome as defense is the one area i'm struggling with the most at present :o:o:o

Midfield:Young i'm prepared to take a punt on early on. His form simply can't be ignored, coupled with United's opening fixtures and his price-tag... could do well under the new bonus points system also. Ramsey i'm 100% happy with. Isgrove as my cheap emergency mid happy with also. Coutinho i have currently but i'm not looking very long-term on that one. Unsure on Lamela/Eriksen, and think Liverpool could knock a few past Saints so have him in there for now. Also may be shifted to accomodate one of a number of alternative midfield-striker combinations(more about that in a bit). Navas at £7.5M a bit risky but seems to be in favor as the only City mid with real pace. Has shown good pre-season form also like Young, and could benefit from the new bp system. Another option to shift(like Coutinho) if i want to go with a different combo...

My front 3 i'm fairly happy with as you might imagine! (gives me great captaincy options)

The midfield-forward combination options i mentioned previously:

Navas + Costa(currently selected) VS Hazard + Jovetic

Coutinho + Costa(currently selected) VS Hazard + Giroud

Likwise Rooney could be taken out for Costa (but given United's opening run i'm unlikely to do that)

Anyway options(and concerns:pac::pac:) aplenty. Feedback welcome!

A particularly long-winded post, but hopefully some (fellow)tortured-minds in advance of gw1 might appreciate it :)

Chambers is not on my radar at all, he is a transfer waiting to happen really. He will get a game or two but he could get only sporadic minutes after that.

Ericksen,Lamela and Lennon will have alot of watchers to see who gobbles all the Spurs assist points, my guess would be Lamela. Pochetina looks to have great faith in him, really keen to get him at some point without paying over the odds.

Playing about with putting both Ramsey and Sanchez in midfield as I can't choose between them! 3x4m defenders might be one too many. Also can't decide if Eriksen+Costa would be better than Sanchez+Dzeko...

I certainly wouldn't have 2 Everton defenders with their opening fixtures. Downgrade Coleman and use the money in midfield.

There are a lot of great options in the 8-10m midfielder bracket, most teams will have at least 3, many will have 4. With only 2, I can see you missing out on some big scores.

Also, Grealish won't play, bring in someone who will get you points should you need to use them.

Not certain is having an outfield made entirely from just the main four teams the right tactic, but I'm delighted with the scoring potential of that team, with Young being the only risk really.
Plus have a few on the bench who I think are undervalued and could rise in value if they start well.

    Ok I have 2 Choices

    Rooney £10.5 / Diego Costa £10.5 / Jelavic £6.0

    B )

    De Gea £5.5 / Myhill £4.0

    Clyne £5.0 / Ferdinand £4.5 / Cameron £4.5 / Lovren £5.5 / Bruce £4.0

    Ramsey £9.0 / Fábregas £9.0 / Mata £9.0 / Sigurdsson £6.0 / El Ahmadi £4.5

    Rooney £10.5 / Diego Costa £10.5 / Giroud £8.5

    Your options really are:
    A: Chambers + Eriksen + Jelavic
    vs
    B: Bruce + Sigurdson + Giroud
And those options probably mean a different formation.

Bruce prob looking likely for more game time over Chambers.
Sig & Giroud stronger than Eriksen & Jelavic IMO.

(Lovren and Jag are the same price so that's just a judgement call between them two)

I'd be opting for B as you'll be playing 3 up front with that. That means you can play 3 at the back.... Not the strongest back line in here so I'd limit that to 3 if possible.
Option A might mean 2 upfront some weeks, you might be forced to go 4 at the back so B is playing to your strengths better

am i the only one thinking of doubling up on ramsey and sanchez? sanchez will basically be a striker and well i really think ramsey can do what yaya done for city and get a truck load of points from midfield.

The thing is I really rate Sunderland under Poyet. He did a superb job last year. I'm a big fan of Pulis as a manager and he did a great job but Poyet's was even better. Di Canio had left Sunderland in a terrible shambles.

That's why I am willing to go with a Sunderland defender over Taylor I think. Will have a look at the fixtures and see though.

Completely understandable. I hope you're right, and Sunderland have been very solid in pre-season, but our start is very tough.

United, Spurs, Swansea, Stoke, Arsenal, Everton, Chelsea and City the first few home games. It's clear the fixture computer hasn't been all that kind to us once again this year. Bottom half sides never tend to do all that well on the road either so clean sheets may be few and far between.

Good team but I'd be looking to move to 3 at the back, you'd probably get more points from a 5th mid or 3rd striker.

It's a very solid 4-4-2 though if you want to stick with it. Dawson would be a worry to start however

Great team. Navas and coutinho are nice differentials and could swap to siggy when fixtures turn around week two/ three for pool, city.

The 4.5 defender punts is definitely one way to go and the forward line speaks for itself. Definitely a respectable team having those three forwards, first person ive seen successfully build a team around them

Dawson may may start the season, but can't see him being a regular again this season. He has been linked with a move away, we have signed a CB already (Dier), and are meant to be closing a deal for another one now (Mateo Musacchio). Even without those two new signings I'd expect 2 of Kaboul/Vert/Chiriches to play ahead of him.

Plenty of solid options at 5.0 though. If you want to keep with Spurs you could go with Kaboul (more likely starter imo) or take a punt on Naughton (4.5) as Walker is out for the first few weeks and he is likely to start.

    Otherwise both teams pretty solid.

I can't see how Rooney, Costa and Sturridge can fit into a team. Way too much pressure on them to perform.
