Shouldn't windows be closed during a thunderstorm?

    Ah no.
lightning wont come in the window as such.
    It affects the tallest points

Yes they should. If you leave your windows open, the lightning can climb in and sneak around your house and rummage through your belongings as you sleep.

No one will need an alarm clock. Leave your windows open as long as you can as the pre-dawn will be sultry.

That thing is just sitting offshore gaining more juice. The beast from the erm...south!

In a hotel room in parknasilla with great views south toward the Caha mountains. Lots of lightning off to the south, thunder audible as well and it's straying raining here in the last 15 mins. Big crowd gathered earlier watching the lighting dance the other side of the caha mountains. Very spectacular.

I've to drive from Avoca (Arklow) to Dublin Airport at 4am.

Could this have an impact on flights?

I have read stories that ball lightning has a habit of floating in though open windows to hover around the room for a while before mysteriously floating back out again into the great, vast yonder.

Its not unsafe in my opinion but it can make the experience of a rather sustained loud overhead you storm like these ones tonight more frightening if you understand?

yeah but I'd imagine thats very rare and very unlikely in a city housing estate.

Still very dry and calm in Tralee. Can anyone please tell me if we're in the path of the storm and if so,when to expect it?
