There's no "Road To Damascus" moment here.. Ian Paisley chose to jump on the bandwagon when he found that nobody would listen to his diatribe any more..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,241 ✭✭✭furiousox

I was in a lift with him once in Stormont.
Just me, him and his bodyguard.
He spoke..I nodded, or smiled or shook my head....didn't open my mouth once!

You are a khaki coloured bombardier, it's Hiroshima that you're nearing.

It is a tough one, all right.
Should we remember him for the (relative) moderate he later became or for the vile loathsomeness of his earlier pronouncements?
It would be doing nobody any favours to forget the actuality of what happened.
I dunno. I would hope I'd be remembered for any good I did, but will anybody quietly sweep the nasty stuff under the carpet for me?

Well I think you should think about it like this.. Would Paisley have changed his opinions if his political career had continued to be successful?

Precisely. He was an old man trying to be down with the kids.

Probably right, there. As a political animal, he would have continued to fan the flames if there was fuel there.
