His club should suspend him for a few weeks. Acknowledge that they know what he did and they're not OK with it.

Not listed on any of the sites of ill-repute where one might usually expect to view it, so I doubt it.

Not on TV here as far as I know. beIN Sports are covering it, but that's not available here.

Looks like Ospreys are romping away with this one. 14 points up already. Bonus point before half time at this rate.

its entertaining enough. Grenoble unlucky with one or two half chances. Ospreys playing good open stuff though

Awful call by the ref earlier for a dangerous tackle AWJ.

Or are all dump tackles against the laws now? :(

Depends how you define dump tackle. Legs above horizontal is a no-no.

Grenoble seem to have got one back. Game on!

And that was shortlived as Ospreys cancel it out with their third try.

Ref called It as above the horizontal with the tmo review but I believe it was a very harsh call. It was horizontal, but not above it. And the player completely held onto the ball carriers and went to ground with him. Textbook dump Tackle.

Excuse me, I think I said he was a lovely guy but haven't defended what he did. I said it was a shocking thing what he did. If you need to whet your appetite for thanks that much, maybe go to the Expecting Fathers section and say your other half is expecting; they'll flood in. Take off your backseat moderator glasses as well my friend!

He did in his hoop "drop" him. He threw him to the ground. You really need to watch that video again. Look at the arms after picking him up.

But it's still not, 'driving into the ground' as was previously said.

    So?

Dropping a player is also completely illegal and is specifically mentioned in that infamous 2011 memorandum on spear tackles as a red card offense
Law 10.4(j) reads: Lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player’s feet are still off the ground such that the player’s head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play.

A directive was issued to all Unions and Match Officials in 2009 emphasizing the IRB’s zero-tolerance stance towards dangerous tackles and reiterating the following instructions for referees:

    - The player is lifted and then forced or ‘speared’ into the ground (red card offence)

    - The lifted player is dropped to the ground from a height with no regard to the player’s safety (red card offence)

    - For all other types of dangerous lifting tackles a yellow card or penalty may be considered sufficient

I didn't deny that dropping a player was illegal, but I was disputing that he was driven into the ground, which he blatantly wasn't. O'Driscoll was driven into the ground in 05, Mark Best is not driven into the ground here.

That's a bit pedantic though, it's equally dangerous and it was certainly malicious.

He's extremely lucky and I agree with the poster above that his club should be standing him down, captain or no. I hope he's apologised.

Mallinder confirms that North was concussed last weekend. http://www.planetrugby.com/news/mallinder-expects-decent-ban-for-hartley/

Mallinder also provided an update on George North, stating that the Wales on review by the Northampton medical team had been concussed during last weekend's defeat away to Leicester.

"At the time of the incident, our medics from the views that they could see and speaking to George, they believed George was not concussed. On reviewing the other views, after the incident, they recognised that he was concussed or probably was and therefore would have probably done things differently," Mallinder explained.

"‘He’s been to see the specialist. He’s been fine all week, he was fine actually soon as the incident occurred.

"We said before, he was talking as soon as the physio got to him, he was fine… there wasn’t an issue. He has had no symptoms of concussion."

Are teams punished for having poor disciplinary records? Hartley, assuming he gets a ban, will be the 3rd Northampton player in the space of about a month to get one.

    I don't think so.
But Northampton have an absolutely atrocious record established now.

Very surprised he came out and admitted it. Massive failure in protocol at the very least for a concussed player with a bad history to be returned to action like that.

It will be interesting to see what action is taken, if any.

I see Malinder is quoted in the Guardian basically saying North was probably concussed and the medics got it wrong. It's the the Hartley red card article.

    I for one am shocked.
