It'll be interesting to see if this makes much of an impact over next few years

Ukraine is placed in an excellent position to produce organic cereals. If I had land there it would be my MO.
Does the world need even more dirt cheap cereals dumped on the market?

    Sheepish sprayer driver this am.
"I think there is another software fault as didn't purge the lines when swapping over to beans"
Ok, will I contact the dealer or is it not an issue going forward(sfw version)
Not too bad but stil FFS.
Went to look at lovely clean oats to calm down.
Being offered a farm for longterm contract, beans are 1.5ft high and about 3 pods each. Wheat is full of wheelings and got no pre-em herbicides last autumn. When I suggested burning it all off now, cc, burn that off in Oct to flush Bg over winter and spring crop the owners jaw dropped. But he hasn't said we are out yet.

Now that things have settled (letting student loose on osr putting on glyphos/podstick, watching through fingers), would maybe do a radishes and rooting stuff Dawg anything about 5-10£ acre.
Discing monthly from late sept to force BG to break dormancy, main months of chit are sept-dec. There is work being done on forcing it to break dormancy and to sterilise seed heads.

It's for themselves I think. Sold the crawler last week.
They went to change one of the combines last year and Kellys didn't know what they were going to do with it. Anyone buying that size combine will be buying new.

Same with quaddies. Most here go to the near east as export. On the mostly boy's ground around ye, if you need that much hp there's something going really really wrong. Large tractors like it will soon be a thing of the past outside of the plains.

Look well out picking stones with a three ton trailer behind it. The best of luck with it didn't think they needed a big beast like that.

Why does the barley look so black in the store?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,611 ✭✭✭Mooooo

How does the teleported handle the grain pusher? Used one on big enough Volvo years ago and you would want to be smooth with the controls

It's oil seed rape in the shed which is black when it's fit, just colour of the light.

Loader has a 5.5 ton lift and is ok once you stay straight. The end of the pusher can drop at a fair rate due to the length of it mind.

    How’re yields shaping up?
Osr back by 50% here. Same with barley.
Wheat yields back by 20%, but proteins are good. Majority of wheat was 14%+ protein.

3.25 to 3.5 for winter barley is the general run around here. No wheat cut yet.

    Spring barley is toasting nicely

This is next door to a bog, and would be described as 'cool' land. Tops of the hills are burnt out of it. Better land looks better though.

Big difference to last year weather wise anyway.

The tillage boys are making a killing this year.

Winter barley in this area from 3.75 - 4.1 ton per acre, straw making 20 minimum per bale collected, realistically it's impossible to get it under 25, if you are lucky enough to get it.

Winter Wheat freely making 1,000 an acre for wholecrop

Dairying is a mugs game boys

That barley looks to have more problems than needing a drink...

    Btw.
Malting barley is easily making €225/t here and very short on supply.
€225/230 green should be available for Irish malt.

In fairness tillage was a mugs game for the last like 4years. Whereas dairying has largely done well 3 outa the last 5yrs.

With all the extra mins in the undesicated straw it's still cheap this year. Straw is freely getting over 100/ ton and near double for feeding grade

The only reason the tillage men are making a killing is livestock farmers paying what ever it takes.
without these sectors, they would have no market , straw would be cheap as it should be and not overly inflated, many years gone by with folks chopping it rather than going to the bother of baling it .
every man needs to make something, not take all.
few years ago , I looked on donedeal for straw rounds, E8, this year up north, £30 each and rising, next thing every dog and their granny will have WB planted , next thing theres no money in tillage. beggars belief. dealers are driving up prices with scare mongering, go on farming forum and you will see theres plenty of straw about if needed.
how can cattle be up, sheep be up, silage be up straw be up, meal be up in price yet the end product is worth no more??
    dear oh dear

Not everyone will, lots of spring down crops will be loss making or barely breaking even

Re do the sums for spring barley
1.5 t/ac and 4 bales of straw / ac . There's many acres like that. Or beans 1 t/ ac and no straw plus the aid
