I don't actually agree that it is a waste of money. Pairc Ui Chaoimh badly needed a re-vamp, it is an absolute kip. I hate going there.

Agreed also. Something new was needed but some of the money spent on it should be going into developing underage structures and coaching.

How many pitches have they there? So it was private investment and never considered for Cork development teams?

I don't know how Cork wouldn't go and use it, it has one stadium pitch with a stand, and three other pitches. Now the main pitch was overused for fixtures, and the pitch was very poor for a period of time, but its much better now from what I hear. Also have a an indoor and outdoor astroturf area
Its a great centre but woefully managed and losing alot of money over the last few years since Croke Park banned all "foreign" sports from officially using the club.

    http://www.independent.ie/regionals/corkman/news/foreign-games-ruled-out-of-mallow-gaa-complex-27087808.html

That came out of the Irish rugby team using Nemo for training when their pitch was frozen - it was a centre of community for such a large town, with the rugby team and soccer teams using the astro turf for training, as well as Munster rugby and many other club soccer/rugby teams using it for training.

Its private 5 a side indoor soccer and 6 a side outdoor soccer on the 3g pitch that pays the bulk of the running costs in Mallow.

Its a very large building with huge heating ,lighting and staffing costs, its often like a ghost building.

Colm O'Rourke asked about the changes to Mayo and he goes on about the Kerry subs while the Mayo team appears on the screen. Bizarre!

A lot of gaping holes in the crowd at Croke Park. Looks like a poor attendance.

I'd say there's around 45-50k which is a decent crowd.

Alan Mulholland. Galway manager until he stepped down a few days ago. Beaten by both Mayo & Kerry this year so makes sense to have him on.

Brolly sticking the boot into American Football and by God the man is spot on about that ****e. Some of those losers playing for the colleges won't be good enough for the Cincinnati Bengals FFS.

Aren't the Cincinatti Bengals quite a decent team now.

No way a bloody college football game should dictate a change of venue for one of the most important games of the year.

This match was announced about a year ago.

I'm all for the American Football match being played in Croke Park but the GAA probably shouldn't be arranging these events in the middle of the championship in case Croke Park is needed for a replay. The stadium director has far too much influence on the association in my opinion.

And that is the point. It can't be rearranged now, lads are travelling from America to be fair, but it's a joke it was organized for next weekend.

Like the place isn't even used in October-December pretty much.

At least we were spared the bias of Martin Carney. Unbelievable how he gets to commentate on most Mayo games.

Interestingly, there was a discussion on one of the threads here recently advocating that some of the AI series be played in venues outside croke park. A lot of people seemed to support it. Now, the situation has arisen, everybody seems unhappy with it!

There will def be a ticket shortage, and I the GG will favour Kerry.

Yeah but you won't get the yanks travelling then. One of the main reasons in having the matches at that time is because it coincides with a bank holiday over there. They can get away with having the NFL matches in London later on in the year because there's a market there for NFL matches, not so much for college matches.

    F*ck them so

    Charming.

Well look at it this way. Dublin gets the benefit of a couple thousand yanks coming over for the weekend, spending money on food, drink and whatever you're else having yourself. Limerick gets the benefit of a couple of thousand Mayo and Kerry folk popping down for the match, spending money on food, drink and whatever else you're having yourself.

Strikes me as pretty much a win/win but if you want to let some backwards parochial notion cloud your view on it then fire ahead.

Are americans actually travelling to Ireland to watch a game of American football?

It's only Dublin games people want to see outside Croke Park.

    Tommy is very anti Kerry.

He was gushing about Mayo from the first whistle to the last

You clearly haven't a clue what you're talking about, so you should stop. If you don't understand why your insult levelled at the players doesn't make a lick of sense (and you don't) that's grand, but referring to your ignorance as "the truth" didn't make it any less embarrassing. It's not the Americans' fault that the GAA have, once again, made a fixtures balls up.

Just before the start of today's match, Marty Morrissey was asking questions like "Will Jason Ginbbons start midfield?" (He was already standing there for the throw in so why not just tell us!) and "Will Mayo employ a sweeper for James O'Donoghue?" (Why not tell us who was picking up O'Donoghue at the start? as it was off screen?!). I suspect he may have also told us that the teams were scoring in the opposite direction to which they were; I certainly expected the opposite way around from what he said but maybe I misheard him!
