Hmmm...can you own two ships of the same type?

I might make the trip myself and get another Anaconda for a laugh.

    Yeah you definitely can.

I might fly out then tonight.

But, as you say, what do I need to trade.

Not making that trip just to get told "Sorry sir, but you'll need ____ for the "free" Anaconda"

So I went to my first engineer last night: Felicity Farseer. She was the closest to where I was in the map. I figure if she's offering FSD improvements, every future career option will benefit from that. The scanners will help with going for an exploration route in the short term to make the funds necessary to do whatever it is I'm supposed to do to get the improved stuff.

However, I experienced my first case of being ganked in the game - in fact, it was my first experience of any sort of interaction with another human. Just as I was lifting off in my Type 6 which is built for cargo and has no weapons, my shields were stripped and I was taking damage. Now, being a sensible human, I was watching the Manchester Derby on my other screen and have the in-game volume set lower so I didn't realise I was under attack until I saw some flashing lights on my screen :D I wasn't even carrying any cargo, was just about to jet off and collect whatever macguffin it is I need for the Engineer. If that's the extent of multiplayer, then I think I'll just leave it alone and play solo :D

    It's largely that and o7.

I got blasted in my unarmed Anaconda one time by some clown as I was gingerly coming out of the slot of some station. I said I was unarmed and carrying nothing to give him, but he wasn't bothered.

In any case, I turned my Anaconda around and rammed him and he blew up. :pac:

    What a gobshite.

Are you sure it wasnt the station?

I dont play in Open as unless you grind towards a specific weapon set PVP is boring.

No, it definitely a player. In a Cobra, I think.

I always play in Open. But, most of the time it seems to be just me. I get a lot of other pilots pop up on the dashboard readout. But I rarely see them in space, if you know what I mean.

The vast majority are just going about their business. But, you'll get the odd ejit. For some people, multiplayer just equals deathmatch and nothing else. But, then again, what else can you do as a multiplayer in Elite? You can't really trade with anyone.

I think people playing as pirates is fine thought. But, what I'd like to see implemented is a bounty system, where other players could go after players who are pirates. That would be great. A kind of career mode. Players can even set up as cops if they want.

I also like to see players being able to group together and set up their own trading outposts. Say a bunch of players get enough money to buy a wee spaceport and then get goods that are tradable on the the market. It would be great.

There's a couple of things that would liven the game up to a very real degree.

If i went and got the free Anaconda, could i then sell it for a cheaper ship that i might be able to actually fit? Been tempted to give it another go over the last few weeks.

Yeah sure but afaik you only get 80m from it, havent played in a while could be wrong.

I would keep it tbh its the Swiss Army Knife of ships in Elite and oddly the best one for fighting Thargoids. Better than the end game Corvette and Cutter combined.

You can trade, fight and explore in it. No other ship has that flexibility.

Just run passenger missions to get the ships you want as you will be able to upgrade while working towards the next.

It was definitely a ship that was shooting me, saw him on the radar. Fro mthe name (which I forget now) and the lack of a message popup that an AI pirate always seems to have, I took it to be a player.

Misread one of the guide pages of where I could get the Meta-Alloys for the Engineer and went off many light years in the wrong direction. So that'll be on today's flight plan when I finish work.

A player appears as a hollow icon on your radar where as NPC's appear as a solid icon.

Handy way to determine if its a player of NPC.

So I had 10 minutes to kill yesterday and poked my head into CEX on Georges St and found a Saitek x52 for less than half price, but with a little bit of wear and tear. I've not had a chance to test it yet, but could be a great find :D

Flight stick is great for this game. It will take a bit of getting used to but once you get the hang of it i think its by far the best control method for the game.

A mouse will always be more accurate,a controller easier to use but theres something about a stick in this game that feels great to me.

This game completely changes once you start using a HOTAS.

Had taken a break from this, started back into it again this week.

Spent a few hours void opal mining, about to go and sell them this evening. Ridiculous money tbh, have a little over a 100 in my cargo hold which will sell for a significant percentage of the cash in my bank account, though i guess lot more money tied up in ships than is held in cash. VR HMD is probably a bit pay to win for void opals, makes it easy to navigate the rings and also means you can look around to see bright yellow asteroids across a wide field of view, where on a monitor you would need to spin the ship around rather than turn your head to see them all. Also looks great, expecially the detonations and when you are in close to asteroids abrasion blasting.

Wasting lots of prospector limpets on non-core asteroids though. I am generally certain that the ones which have cores will have them, but lots of time I am not certain that other ones won't have them so i ping a limpet at them just in case. I guess a bit more time and i will get better at being sure which ones to prospect and which to skip.

Mining in my krait Mrk II. Great visibility from that cockpit to look around with and it is >500m/s boost speed and >300m/s normal. Shame cargo space is limited though, I have 128 atm. Maybe should swap my class 6 shield out for a smaller one to increase cargo space, or swap my fuel scoop. Or just use the money i am making from void opals to buy a python for mining I guess. Though i am fond of the krait, its like a bigger better cobra.

I bought 2 seismic charge things, in my underwing class 2 slots. 2 is too many, I have my abrasion blaster in class 3 hardpoint so will swap that out and put it in one of the class 2 slots instead.

Slightly irritated to find turrets don't work anymore without multi crew. Not a big deal, just irritated I paid for turreted rather than fixed. I presume gimballed still work?

i changed my computer and can't seem to get my x52-pro to work properly on new one. Can't get pinkie switch to work or the boost button on my throttle. I don't have the same software i used to have on old computer and can't seem to find it, to remove the clutch function from the throttle button ad presumably that would also help set up my pinkie switch for dual function on the other buttons. I am managing fine as is though. Just can't bind things like chaff etc.

The trick to finding fissure asteroids is just going for the super bright yellow ones.

It was very playable with a controller tbh, I swapped the lateral rotation from Right stick to Left and put FSD on L3 which were the only changes I made.

There are a LOT of hat-switches on the X52 and I briefly looked at the controls at lunch to see what was what (there's a default profile for the stick in the game and it picked it up without problem) but there'll be some tweaking in my future for sure. There doesn't seem to be any specific differentiation on the hat switches shown in the config menu. One of the switches seems pretty banjaxed on the controller (joys of a second-hand purchase I suppose) so we'll see how it fares.

Sitting on just shy of 10m and I'm thinking of trading in the Type6 for an Asp Explorer to try and make some proper money via Road 2 Riches so I can get into the big ships

Do you have anything fitted out for combat?

Are you in Open or solo or PG?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators Posts: 28,633 Mod ✭✭✭✭Shiminay

I have an Eagle: https://inara.cz/cmdr-fleet/174425/939618/ There doesn't really seem to be an awful lot more I can do with it.

Edit: was in Open, but after getting badly ganked at the Farseer base, I went back to Solo, but I'm happy with either.

Passenger missions in the Type 6 will earn you huge amounts of credits very quickly and faction rank which is needed for ships like the Vette and Cutter. The other option is to outfit the Type 6 for deep core mining which is the other big money maker in the game and much more fun than just flying back and forward between a station and a landmark.

It should only take you a night or two to earn enough to move up to something like a Python or a Krait which are both amazing multirole ships.

void opal mining is a bit ridiculous tbh. I made 175 million in <2 hours yesterday evening. After selling cargo I decided to pop to founders world to buy a class 3 limpet collector. While I was there I realised my previous couple of hours work would buy me a fully A-rated combat specialised fer de lance. Or a python if I want to mine in that instead of my krait II. Or buy both and still have more cash than i had a week ago.

Or give it another couple of evenings and I can buy a second anaconda to fit out for exploration maybe, to save me the bother of swapping out modules. Tbh this is a bit insane.

Still would need to engineer them of course, but it used to be bloody hard and long grind to get to a conda.

Also I was 25% into tycoon (last rank before trading elite) at the weekend. made 25% in two consecutive (fairly short) evenings.

And this stuff is not even an exploit.

Can i ask a quick question though - i see from reddit that there used to be a bug where asp explorer would generate double void opals from each chunk by hitting them with 4 abrasion blasers on its class 1 hardpoints. I assume that is patched out/fixed?

It was a case that having two abrasion blasters (regardless of ship) would always generate two chunks (from one) when hit with both at the same time, but I believe that's been fixed now.
