Anyone that missed out on the Aldi machine might be interested in the Philips Senseo coffee machine on offer on Amazon today

I was in Aldi on Trinity St Drogheda this evening and there are 3 of these machines left in case anyone's interested.

Just got one, would say its better than the senseo with coffee duck and better than the nespresso.
The faux crema is just ridiculous though you can't see how much is poured so end up putting too much or too little water through the puck.
I'll probably depressurise the filter or get anoter portafile so I can fit a reasonably sized cup under it.
Anyone tried a different filter with it?
The steam wand is more froth than microfoam but the wife and kids love it.
Overall the portafilter and wand are at lease a few inches too low.
Best thing of all is the 3 year warranty though, with the amount of coffee I drink I can guarantee I will need a pump, or heater block in that time.

I depressurised the basket last week but the machine can't supply enough water at pressure really so I ended up putting back in the orifice and making the hole slightly larger, very happy with the result.

One of these still left in Mayfield this morning

Anyone find they're getting a lot of crema using the two cup? Any tips to minimise it? I end up spooning it off the top as it's a little too much froth for my liking.

Yep I made the orifice slightly larger and it reduced the fake crema to manageable proportions

Actually any chance of a pic? Don't want to damage the thing by overdoing it. Used a powerdrill or something like that?

I used a straight pick and a small hammer if you screw up you can always swap the one from the single cup basket. https://www.aldi.ie/en/specialbuys/archived-specialbuys/thursday-9th-january/products-detail-page/ps/p/4-piece-pick-and-hook-set/

Anyone else find that the temperature leaves a little to be desired? My wife has to put every second cup made into the microwave to bring it up, I'm not a big coffee drinker, but it's definitely closer to luke warm than scalding imo.

This might be of interest to those that got one of these machines:

Did you heat the machine first? Wait for the green light.

Coffee isn't meant to be scalding Imo.

I find it a little lukewarm as well, 10 seconds in the microwave sorts it out though for the perfect cup.

I spotted Lidl have started selling Nespresso compatible capsules. Did anyone try it?

Or you could use the foaming rod?

Brought my Aldi machine back as the steam wand had stopped working. It's a pity cause it made gorgeous coffee, I was using Ikeas espresso grind in it and it produced a really thick velvetty crema foam on top of the coffee. Anyway the girl in Aldi have me a full refund, no hassles whatsoever. Their returns policy is pretty refreshing compared to some other places.
I've since bought a used Gaggia so my coffee quest continues:)

Did you try rescaling and clearing the nozzle with a pin?

Yeah did that but it was just making noise and not building up enough pressure to produce steam. I wasn't too bothered as I'd quickly learnt that the Aldi machine isn't great at producing microfoam for lattes which is one of the main reasons I bought it.

I'm finding it quite difficult to remove the capsule from the handle after using it. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing? I've tried running cold water over it but doesn't really help.

Well I think the capsules are very good - there is a whole thread on this on this forum. Great value and great taste in my view.

What capsule? The nespresso pod? Are you having trouble taking the pod out of the adapter??

I have a Nespresso machine, but some day I might be interested in buying one of these Aldi ones - can anyone remember the price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,530 ✭✭✭OldRio

    Vienna86. If I remember correctly about 60euro.
