I've been considering this myself. Anyone bought one before?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 284 ✭✭parttime

I bought the older, bigger one about three maybe four years ago. Delta is the brand name. Make coffee almost everyday with it and its just grand. I'd say you would spend a lot more to get a better cup of coffee. Aldi have a no quibble guarantee anyway so try it and if you dont like it, bring it back.

The ad says the amchine works with "Nespresso coffee pods, coffee bags and filter coffee".

They sell ground coffee at least, not seen bags or pods there. I've not tried their ground, so I don't know the quality.

You can use ground coffee which you can buy in any shop. You could also grind your own beans if you want even fresher coffee.

What height cups fit in it? I like my large coffee mug :)

You don't need to put your mug into it. You can make the espresso in a small cup and pour it into the mug then

Well it's relevant when using nespresso lungo capsules. When using the nespresso machine in work we just stick the mug under the spout, click the "Lungo" button, add a drop of milk and after 30 seconds we're in caffeine heaven.

So just curious if the height is tailored more for cappucino style mugs (hard to judge from photo on site).

No big deal if we have to use smaller temporary cup but slightly less convenient.

Also are there lungo/espresso buttons, or do you need to hold the button while the nespresso capsule is being processed?

I see. The drip tray looks removable too. That might give you more room. What size of a mug are we talking here?

Yes, but if it comes from an Aldi machine is it not Aldi coffee? :pac:

I presume that the "coffee bags" mean the senseo or ESE pods that you can get in Tesco, or discountCoffee.ie

hows the cleaning up? is it messy?

Ive tried some of the Lidl grounded coffee and its actually good stuff

Looks like a little bit of work alright (not specific to this model, but might be similar: http://www.beveragefactory.com/resources2/coffee_tea/articles/espressomaker-cleaning.shtml)

Another advantage of the nespresso capsules I guess...

The "coffee bags" that I linked to earlier work out cheaper than the nespresso pods.

Unfortunately I have no idea if they work for the Aldi machine.

My sister got a similar coffee machine from Lidl 2 years ago and it can take the ESE (44mm) and she can also squash in the Senseo(I think 62mm) coffee pads into the different pod holders. Her machine did not have a fitting for the nespresso pods

So who is going to bite the bullet and buy one of these tomorrow?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 142 ✭✭emaleth

Just a word of warning for anyone who was going to buy one - they haven't arrived in stores yet. I was told they'd be in tomorrow or the next day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,174 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I just picked up mine from Parnell St. Last one in the shop*... be warned, they're selling quick!

*might be more in the back, worth checking!

I was going to thank you for saving me the walk up, but now I'll have to go anyway just in case :D

It was Santry Avenue that said they didn't have any delivered, btw. The customer care line had zero information on who might have them in stock.

There was an "opened" one on the floor (as is the norm in Lidl/Aldi for some reason), which I didn't really count. So if they really don't have anymore in stock I'm sure that will be grand!

I've noticed this. Is is that customers open them to check quality before buying and then leave the opened box and pick up a closed box?

They had a stack of them in Aldi in Clonee as of 15 mins ago. I had a look but I passed - the way that you use the Nespresso pods is by way of an adapter which goes into the handle. I heard that similar compatible systems that use this approach in Australia have stopped working as Nestle have done a minor redesign of their pods to stop compatibility. I am sure if you had any problems that Aldi would take it back though, but I decided to pass on it.

hmm good to know, I'll nab a few from work and try them out this eve

Muchas gracias for the info, they had one left on the shelf and two opened ones, which looked fine to be honest. They weren't knocked around or anything so if anyone's up that way, still a couple in Parnell St as of about twenty minutes ago.

I just checked there with a Nespresso pod (latest redesign as these were delivered yesterday) and it appears to fit in fine.

Seems you need to push the pod into jagged points at the bottom of the filter so the bottom of the pod is cut open a little.

As to how similar it tastes to a real Nespresso machine, I'll find out this eve.

Ok, I just fired her up. No major explosions so far! Nice cup of coffee. Might have been a little too much in the way of bubbles on top but it was probably due to the coffee I put in it.

I bought the last one on parnells street. Box was opened and it has the machine and a handle. No instructions or anything else. What else was in the package?

One of the inserts was already in the handle and the other 2 inserts + plastic spoon was in the water tank. Other than that just a small instruction book.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,174 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

The instruction book should be online somewhere, although I wasn't able to find it.

Was the machine wrapped in a plastic bag, and a cardboard insert containing the handle? If so it's likely you have everything.

Instructions were loosely positioned on top so might just have fallen out.

NOTE: a 3 Year Warranty form was included in the instructions. I've never had to fill in a warranty form before to qualify for the 3 year warranty from ALDI, but perhaps required for this?

Machine was wrapped on plastics and but handle was not in a cardboard but included. I talked to manager and probably I can sort it if something critical is missing. I will hunt the instructions when I get home.

Were the other bits in the water tank at the back of the machine?
