According to today's Anfield Wrap, we haven't had a substitute score a winning goal since Joe Cole in 2011.

I like the Anfield Wrap but without even further looking into this I know for a fact Sturridge came off the bench last season in the 2-2 against Rafa's Chelsea. So whoever came up with that stat on there, I think I know who without naming names but it is what it is.

    He did say winning goal

I don't see the problem. A decent keeper that can really push Mignolet for number 1 spot.

If the money is there why not

So then during the back up goal keeper argument news breaks that Leyland Van Gaal has cancelled Christmas any move for Kroos

    20m +1 anyone? :pac:

now that LVG seems to have said no to him, anything to be said for a £20m bid for Toni Kroos?

    :D

Yeah, Sturridge also equalised against Everton.

At least we have the world cup this year to break up the Summer. I think we would go slowly mad with being linked to a new player every day. For all the talk of Lallana, history suggests we will end up buying a barely known player from Romania.

Uruguay say Suarezs injury occurred the last day of the season.

could it have been in that controversial tackle by Dummet that others said he was play acting?

He definitely picked up some kind of knock early on in that game.

    Ah no,

Buffon would be fine for me :P :)

He isn't a superb keeper. He has been shown time and time again to be average playing behind an incredible Barcelona team.

Absolute nonsense, he's been one of the best goalkeepers in Europe for years and is streets ahead of Mignolet.

We've already said that we wouldn't spend an extra £5m on Lallana though. If we've signed everyone we want then go out and spend £5m on Vorm I won't care. If sign Vorm for £5m and we don't sign who we want aand hear about how we baulked over an extra £3-4m for a few players then I'll be pretty pissed off.

What would people's thoughts be on the possibility of signing Fabregas?

He seems to have been deemed surplus to requirements and all the top English teams have been linked except us.

If you believe the press, half the Barca squad is up for sale. What's the reality, who is actually for sale?

Henderson scored in the 4-2 v Notts County IIRC. Not a decisive goal strictly speaking but he changed the game when he was introduced IIRC and he put it beyond doubt when he scored.

We won't pay near the wages that Fabregas would want, so no point even thinking about it.

I suppose the point is that at full strength we have nobody who can turn a game around. Whether we occasionally have a player coming back from injury or have benched a few good players to give the sprogs a chance, the end result is that we've had very few players snatch us a draw and have had nobody get us a win in quite a long while.

Even back to the days of Rafa, he was never able to build a squad that the likes of Chelsea and City have or Utd had back then.
We've always been playing catch up with the first 11 so we've only had a handful of players who can turn a game around (Benayoun and maybe Maxi are pretty much it and they weren't world beaters).

To build a modern squad Rodgers is going to have to do something that has pretty much never been done in the history of this club - even when we were great, teams had much smaller squads.

It'll be a challenge to get the right players in and another to juggle everyone to get the most out of the squad while keeping everyone happy.

    http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/suarez-has-knee-surgery-30296377.html

"Yesterday, Wednesday 21st of May, Luis Suarez suffered an intense pain in his left knee after an undergoing a normal warm up," said a statement from the Uruguay Football Association (AUF).

"He had an MRI scan which confirmed a partial lesion of the external meniscus of his left knee.

"On Thursday morning, he underwent an arthroscopic partial resection of his meniscus in the Medica Uruguaya hospital (Montevideo).

"There was no evidence of any further damage to the knee.

"His participation to the World Cup in Brazil has not been ruled out."

Uruguay FA president Wilmar Valdez suggested if Suarez's recovery went to plan he could return to training in just over a fortnight.

"We know the surgery was a success and that the injury is not serious. We have to wait and see how he recovers," he told Uruguayan newspaper La Ovacion.

"We had very little time to react and without knowing the extent of the injury, we didn't want to raise the alarm to the public.

"These are injuries that, considering Suarez's fitness and if the recovery is good, will not take long for him to return to play.

"We have to calculate if he will arrive for the first, second of third (group game at the World Cup).

"We know that normally the recovery period, if all goes well, is around 15 days to return to training.

"We all know what Luis represents to the national team and more so, considering the great form he was in.

"Considering how valuable he is to the national team, it is a big concern for us."

Suarez, who was named the Professional Footballers' Association and Football Writers' Association player of the year after scoring 31 league goals, is his country's all-time leading scorer with 39 in 77 appearances.

I doubt Reina would see himself as a backup keeper.

He could just pretend he is constantly on National duty! :)

Dont understand the fuss over signing Vorm. We need a better back up than Jones, Vorm is a good keeper, 5m is a tiny transfer fee in todays market and he probably wont command a large wage. All makes sense to me. Why are Swansea selling is what I dont understand. Theyre just gonna have to replace him and they wont find better for 5m imo

The English media are pathetic for the most part, the articles this morning were he would be out for 6 weeks and miss the world cup, then it was he would miss 2 games now Uruguay FA have confirmed it will be about 2 weeks before he returns to training.

The England media mafia are **** scared of what he will do to England in the WC.

I think people are forgetting that Vorm has been fairly pathetic for Swansea this season, Swansea are being smart and looking to upgrade. 5m for Vorm will go a long way towards a replacement keeper of better quality for them imo

He wasn't that bad last season. It was broken up badly by knee injury though.

For 35k a week (his current Swansea salary) a week he is worth it.
