Under tray under the engine came loose on the drive from Cork and has been scraping the ground so I uninstalled it yesterday, there is still a slight scrapping sound under the car, need to investigate further.

Any of ye folks able to tell me what I should be looking out for on a USB car charger?

I have one, and if I attach my phone, it doesn't really charge it. It more just kinda maintains the battery life (which isn't great if your phone is already on it's last legs).

    Was gonna get this:

    http://www.7dayshop.com/dynamode-2-port-high-power-usb-car-charger-black

Are there certain power ratings or such?

i was reading something in work about voltage or amps or some such and that some usb chargers will charge faster than others... can't remember much more than that about it though :P

Buy a belkin. Great quality wires with them too. The one I bought was about €35 online, got it with a lightning cable for €15 in TK Max. Hasn't failed even with a close on dead Nexus tablet being used with an OBD II.

sounds dear by diy standards. you'd comfortably do that for sub €50 yourself and it's a pretty basic diy task.

but a garage has to make money and if they are using new parts then yeah i suppose it's fair.

For a new radiator hose ? The big chunky one ?

Coolant bottle was about 22 euro from ford.
    Coolant
    And whole engine clean down

I just dont know the cost of the hose

+1 I have a small Belkin one that works great. It looks almost like this, except it has a green light.

yeah, i mean if the reservoir bottle was only €22 you can be sure the rad hose was only around €5 - 10... then say €20 for a gallon of coolant.

we're talking €50 for parts tops. €110 labour for what is maybe 30 mins ish (i assume) to do the work and whatever it takes to wash the engine.

easy for a diy'er to say it's dear but if you can't do it yourself and you took the car to a half decent garage then the price is ok ish imo.

Gti Side skirts, gearknob and air intake system along with facelift OEM led rear light units on the way :)

What is the amp output of your wall charger(or what is the phone)? You want something similar in amp output, but not higher.

It is safe to use a lower amp charger than designed for your phone, but not usually vice versa.

Just priced the hose there..... 40 inc the vat.

So 22 + 41 + coolant + cleanin the engine as much as possible to get it sparkling and stop all leaks from when i blasted it with oil.

I should point out its also for finding the coolant leak and sussing the oil dripping down.

what engine is in it? hard to believe the bottle is cheaper than the hose.

Brimmed the car again, 34mpg once more. Perfect!

3 brims so far, 2 with the same result :)

This calls for me to relax for the evening

Wonder will the 156 be as handy if I ever get it finished.... Probably, wait no, definitely not

thats cool, is that in the merc? what is it 2.0 petrol?

i've been doing the same in corolla over the last month or more, brimming it, recording mileage and brimming it. driving the same routes week on week, getting a consistent 38-39mpg.

Yep thats the merc, 2.0 petrol. Mind you I'm driving it very differently than the 406, where I'd put the boot down at every excuse I got. These days I just waft about and go much handier :D

    Is your Corolla a 1.4 or 1.6?

1.4, not being driven very hard.

interesting to hear your results because i'd been wondering lately what nicer cars would have similar mpg results. can add a c-class to that list now :P

Grand.... im just trying to see if im getting ripped off or not because its my first ttme using this mechanic and he was recommended to me

One time where I was driving it almost exclusively round town in traffic it did about 27, so not all that bad. That was also sitting in traffic for ages. It will be interesting to see what it does when I head back for my repeats later this month, the 520 used to do on average 30/31

Its a nice car to have someday, even if its just for a short bit :D
