one thing is for sure in all of this doesn't matter if the dog is heavily marked or lots of white through them as long they go like the clappers.

    Fact:)

I had a new style small weedy bitch that was unreal, her drive was savage an animal in cover, she had some nice markings on her. She was the exception to the rule imo.

    This is my lad Dennis.

Have him from 6 weeks. Unsure weather he's the old type or not, he's 6 and a half months old now and is 15 kg, he's got lovely stocky legs and a nice deep chest.

Am keen to get him out with other springers to get the idea of hunting cover a bit.

Let me know what ye think.

Nice big pup. but like my own fella from 6 months to a year springer pups are hard work when it comes to knowing what they will look live when fully grown. best of look with him pal.

The only advice for a pup up to a year I can give ya is. Give them as much food as they will eat , there still growing so for the best chances in life they need feeding

very true. But u can over do it and make them fat. Some pups will just keep eating. And do make sure it the right food and i give mine calcium tablets as well for good bones.

U only think that , up to a year and if you giving them regular excercise then any fat that they would have would be just gud conditioning and even a Heavy dog with a couple of week of swimming and out and about the weight will fall off them

fully agree, any pup i have had was always fed on raw meat bones and dog nuts, as much as they will eat, good quality food will not make a dog fat if they get the required amount of exercise , they always kept great condition on, a bit of swimming will also help to condition them,

Here is a few pics of my lad, he is not the biggest dog in Ireland but I have yet to meet a man with a bigger dog round here. He is the old style with the shorter legs, he is 25kg and nicely marked. Endless drive even on ground where there is no scent, I have been looking for a replacement for the last 4 yrs, no luck yet, I will be lost without him.

I have his birth cert and he is registered but I never sent away for his papers. From what I can remember he has older lines, mix of birdrowe and badgercourt, think druid is in there. He doesn't have any modern trialing lines in him

Here's a few of my lad Harvey, hes about a year and a half! I would consider him a medium sized strong male for his age!

Had a good first season! looking forward to next yr! plenty of training to be done over the summer! gonna try get him going on the whistle!
He was advertised as old type but there are a lot of field trial champions on his father's lines, Mothers line is all rough shooting dogs, no known kennels on it so id say he's 50-50.

Few pics of him in the garden at the weekend: (impossible to get him still with the phone camera haha)

Here he is near my 2 German Shepherds, try give an idea of size!

The best springers iv seen have no papers.lads keeping lines going for years and only breeding when they need pups for them self's.That been said not all trail dogs are ****.how many trial dogs dont make the grade and end up as great shooting dogs.i dont agree with line breeding though thats what causes most of the probs.some bitches don't come into heat until their nearly 3 years of age with that small litters and most of the pups dieing.

would you think that there may be an issue with a bitch that doesn't come into heat until 3 years?? surely that would be an indicator that that bitch shouldn't be bred from at all.

majority of trialing dogs that dont make the grade are no use as hunting dogs as they dont have the stamina for hunting, this being the main issue with trialing dogs as mentioned earlier in the thread.
What has ruined the springer lines is greed, breeders churning out litters every year with little regard for the dogs, but to line their own pockets.
