    My local Lidl is selling Perlenbacher 6x500ml for €7.49

    link to pic *

    and the Perlenbacher XXL 8x500ml for €8.49

    link to pic *

    I thought the XXL range was up to 25% extra for same price as original?

    * Couldn't figure out how to include pictures

    Tesco have the following whiskies for €25 until Sunday:
    * Jameson Caskmates
    * Bushmills Black Bush
    * Proper Twelve
    * Johnnie Walker Red label
    * Paddy (1 litre)

    And the following for €23:
    * Tullamore DEW
    * Teachers
    * Ballantines

    Jameson Black Barrel is €35.

    And also, 6 bottles of wines for €40 from the I20 and Sangre de Toro range.

    That’s a great price for the black barrel. Wouldn’t bothered with the rest.

    You’ve been conditioned to think 4.3% is the right strength of beer.

    It’s true to be fair or at least it was for a long time in Ireland with the likes of Guinness and ever bland lager in the pub being 4.3%.

    Kind of feels like that’s evolved a fair bit though to be fair. So much choice in pubs these days with IPA’s and German beers for example being in most pubs, well in Dublin anyway.

    Im currently drinking a a very tasty 7.5% stout. Cheers!

    SUPERVALU - Thurs 13th & Fri 14th Jameson Crested 70cl - €25.00

    For rewards customers they've sent a code for €5.00 off €25.00 so the above for €20.00, not sure if code is individual or universal.

    Ulster bank rewards members should get an automatic e5 refund from the bank on spending e25 or more:-

    "We know you love saving money with your Visa card, so here’s another reward – spend €25 at SuperValu before the 2nd of July with your Visa card and receive €5 back.

    This offer has been activated for you so you won’t need to do anything else – just use your registered Ulster Bank Visa card to make an in store purchase before the deadline."

    plenty of poor beers over 4.3% if you want too. Guinness is just 4.2%, loads think it is 4.3%, could have won a few quid in bets over the years on that. Have seen 25+ year Smithwicks drinkers jaws drop when they find out its 3.8%!

    Proper 12 is 25euro in tesco as mentioned, people might not have copped that is the Conor McGregor whiskey and might want the taste of gimmick for a laugh or pressie for a MMA fan. Usually 30euro.

    Slane whiskey is 30euro in tesco if your old man went to metallica!

    Havana Club Anejo Especial Rum 70Cl
    Special OfferSAVE 6.75 Was 29.75 Now 23.00
    valid from 12/6/2019 until 9/7/2019

    is the caskmates any good? In tesco for €25 at moment.
    Seems like a lot of the 8 degrees stuff is being sold off in tesco too. They got bought by irish distillers I think

    I like the stout version I wasn't too impressed with the ipa. If I were you I'd go for the blackbarrel for the tenner extra, definitely better value.

    Personally I think its quite smooth- but I really don't like the flavour.
    Its fine to use it in Irish coffee, cakes etc- but I wouldn't really drink it neat.
    Usually I drink some nice single malts- like the 15 year old Glenfiddich.
    I do enjoy some of the Irish whiskeys- such as the nice citrus tang off Redbreast- I just don't 'get' the caskmates.........

    Thanks folks, I'll give it a miss. I'd was expecting IPA to be the one but if we're talking Irish coffees, the paddy in the press will do fine....

    Tesco Cabra has Boodles Gin for 12.80 regular price 34 euro few bottles on gin section

    Thanks for the heads up. Picked up two bottles this evening. Two more still left on the shelf. There was no SEL, which probably explains why there's still stock left.

    I really like the stout one, IPA is okay but would still get either if they are on sale.

    Does Tesco selling 4 Peroni 660ml bottles for €10 count as a bargain? Each bottle's usually €3.65.

    it is 2.656 units

    660*5.1*0.789

    the tesco page says 3.4 units, but that is UK units.

    Where is that calculation coming forming? In particular the 0.789?

    I’ve always used the

    (ml x abv)/1000 to get the units

    SuperValu have 8 cans for €10.

    Ulster Bank and AIB rewards currently doing €5 off a €25 spend there so theoretically you can get 24 cans for €25.

    the density of ethanol. In Ireland a unit is 10g of alcohol. I should have divided by 1000 too.

    There was confusion about this with the minimum pricing stuff in the media, many were using UK units and so getting predicted prices wrong.

    https://www.thejournal.ie/minimum-pricing-alcohol-3-3224809-Feb2017/
    To find out how much an alcohol product weighs, for the purposes of this legislation, the following formula is used.

    ?width=559&version=3224883
    alcohol bill
    Source: Oireachtas.ie

    So, for a 750ml bottle of wine at 12% strength, you would derive its grams like this

    750 x 0.12 x 0.789 = 71.01 grams
    To then get the minimum price for that product, then you would multiply that figure of 71.01 by €0.10.

    Thus, retailers would be obliged to charge at least €7.10 for this bottle of wine.

    For a bottle of vodka, meanwhile, at 700ml and 37.5% volume, you would use the same method:

    700 x 0.375 x 0.789 = 207.11 grams.
    No matter what brand it is, this bottle of vodka would be required by law to cost at least €20.71 under the new minimum pricing laws.

    And, again, the same would apply to a 500ml can of beer at 5% alcohol volume.

    500 x 0.05 x 0.789 = 19.725 grams
    Each can of beer would then be required to cost at least €1.97.

    Corona Light 12 x 355ml €11

    Occasionally people ask about non-alcoholic beer, so this one is for you.

    I'd rather wring out a dirty dishcloth into a pint glass and drink that :)

    Paddy 700mL €20 in Dunnes. I had a €5 off €20 voucher from last weekend's grocery shop (they started doing this 2 weeks ago - the €5 voucher is only valid for a few days though) so got it for €15...

    Life ain't always empty.
