Oh FBOT01 did his now annual thing and run me to a new 10 mile PB. 64.19 and new 10 mile best by 2.22 for me, will throw up a report later, when the feeling comes back to my legs:eek::eek::eek:.

If you haven't ran this race yet folks, stick it in the diary for next year, brilliant again this year and i would say that if i wasn't a member of the club.

Good job today, B. As I said earlier at the rate you are progressing your target next year will be even further beyond my pacing ability ;)

I second your recommendation of this race. Well organised, good route and great spread afterwards.

Early onset dementia kicking in M!!! Only for you again today I can confidently say I would not have broken 65, you got me through that rough patch between 7 & 8 again this year with your encouragement. Only for you and I mean that, thank you.

    Monday 30.1.17

    Rest

    Tuesday 31.1.17

    6.10 miles Easy@8.46min/mile in 53min 31secs

Usual standard race week run, felt like muck and hated every bit of this. Just the way i like to feel heading into a race.

    Wednesday 1.1.17

Rest, our wee mans Birthday, not a hope of me running.

    Thursday 2.1.17

    5 miles Easy@8.50min/mile in 44min 12secs

Ran this in an absolute gale, bit better than Tuesday but not by much, glad i had the wind at my back for some of it or it would have been worse than Tuesdays run.

    Friday 3.1.17

    10 miles Steady@7.39min/mile in 1hr 16min 26secs

Coach had me down for a pre race session this week but this was the only day i could have done it, i felt it was to close to Sundays race and i had been to the physio the evening before so the legs were a bit tender so i canned the session. Plus TbL had me plagued to go running with him, i eventually gave in as i couldn't take anymore of the selfies of himself he was sending me posing provocatively naked in front of a mirror:eek::eek::eek:. The touching his toes one from behind was the worst!!!

Off to Moyvalley early afternoon and twice Iggy Pop was there before, done his usual stripping act in the hotel car-park and off we went, him fully clothed obviously. The local dogs obviously could smell a good meal on the way as he was attacked by every rabid dog in North Kildare during the run:D:D:D. Out for 5 miles and turned around for home, passed Ireland's Biggest Drug dealers house twice but felt best not to mention it to him as the lining of his shorts was already showing the effect of the dog attacks i'd say!!! He complained and gave out the whole way back that the pace was to hot, 'Jaysis B this feels like sub 7 pace' he remarked every half mile and him a sub 3 hour marathoner in waiting(waiting for a while i'd say!!!!). Got back to the hotel and he eventually regained his breath after a walk around for ten minutes, great crack as always C and without you i would have done nothing i'd say, many thanks again.

    Saturday 4.2.17

    4 miles Easy + 6x30secs@10mile pace.

Nice little leg loosener this with race pace a sinch, please be this easy tomorrow.

    Sunday 5.2.17

    Trim 10 mile - 64min 19secs

Race day started early what with working at 7am and helping out the race crew with a few bits and pieces before the race got underway. Left work at 11.20am and got 2.5 miles of a warm done in perfect race conditions. Met the family at the start for few last minute chat and best wishes and lined up as we were called, met FBOT who looked as fit as a butchers dog as usual and knew i was in safe hands again today with him pacing me. Quick countdown and we were off, crossed the starting mat in a few second and started the watch. Into race pace handy enough, no issues with congestion thankfully and from what i seen most started in the correct position. Onto the wide Athboy Rd and few shout outs from work colleagues before we turned left for Dunderry.

Took the right in the fork in the road and feeling good as i should, little conversation which was killing M i'd say but i cant race and talk, he was chatting away with loads of runners as we passed them, knowing the roads well i knew the first 4 miles or so was the flattest part of the route which made getting into race mode easier. Passing loads of runners as we made our way towards Dunderry, passing runners i normally finish behind in races to boot which was a big confidence boost to me at this stage. Running stride for stride with M at this stage and taking everything in, body was feeling good, legs were strong and breathing was well in sync. Got a great shoutout from neilc just before Dunderry village that gave me a big boost(cheers Neil), sharp left and into what ever bit of breeze was about today as we made our way along the Athboy Rd, slight change in the profile of the road here as it rose gently and passing more runners that i normally finish behind race wise. Splits for first 5 miles were:

    6.24, 6.28, 6.19, 6.16, 6.30.

The road steadily rose from the 4 mile marker for a good 1.5 miles but i felt good and the pace still felt very manageable with some banter going on behind us from other runners, my head was focused at this stage and the road evened out again before we turned left again back towards Trim and into the townland of Kilbride. We were joined by a Rathfarnham runner here for a bit who asked what lay ahead over next 4 miles or so, i told him few drags but nothing else to bother the legs, he chatted with M for a while and Boston came up, Rathfarnham informed us he ran 3.01 there last year and enjoyed it, should have seen the look FBOT gave him:D:D:D, say he took this as time to jog on pal as he moved ahead of us. Got to 7 miles, i remember this point last year, i struggled badly on this section and this year was to be the same. Went from feeling on top of the world to sh!t in one step:eek::eek::eek:.

I dug in but man it was a struggle now, M had moved a few steps ahead but encouraging me with every step he went, really came into his own here and was a massive help but it didn't make the hurt go away for me. I never said it at anytime but it was on the tip of my tongue on more than one occasion to tell him to plow on but i never said it, it passed last year i said to myself it will do the same this year. Got to mile 8 and the watch beeped, fcuk it i said by far slowest mile of the race, get the head back in the game for godsake and move a bit faster. It worked a bit as i plowed on again still fighting with myself but moving a bit better, M constantly encouraging, telling me to breath easy as it had become a bit laboured at this point, saw a runner up ahead who normally finishes a good minute ahead of me 5k wise so he was the target and goal. If M could of dragged me along at this stage he would have, got shoulder to shoulder with my target as we approached mile 8, put boot down i said and move away from him, don't give him the chance to come back at you again and with that the sh!t steps stopped and i found another wind.

The money miles as M called them lay ahead, moving better again and back in the race, this felt like my easiest mile of the race i glided along for this and passed a few more runners keeping up with M as we went along, just as we get to mile 9 there is a short sharp hill, that knocked me back again, legs felt zapped once more but kept moving and working the arms as FBOT told me to do, got a great shout out from FD(always be Firedance to me) with about 700m left which helped no end but not the legs, they nearly buckled shortly after. Approached the right turn into the finish and got few shouts from club mates but i was on the rivet at this stage, staying upright was the main goal. The finish line appeared and i tried to sprint not today he legs said and cantered over rather than galloping!!! Stopped the watch on 64.19 which in turn turned out to be my time, over to a barrier and nearly barfed but managed to stave it off. Second 5 miles splits:

    6.20, 6.33, 6.26, 6.19, 6.30.

Quick kiss and hug from my kids and i felt better, gave all i had and honestly know i did, my legs never felt like giving in before while running a race or remotely near it.

Huge thanks to FBOT, as i said previously massive help to me today again and said all the right things at the right time to cajole me through my rough patch. 65 mins plus for me today M without you. Big well done to dublin runner, Krusty, BeepBeep, yaboya1, overpronator, Singer and mbarr on great performances today also.

Massive thanks to you all to folks for the well wishes and well dones, whole heartedly appreciated each and every one. Thanks to coach Myles to, reason i'm in the shape i am.

Great boost of confidence heading to Barcelona in 5 weeks, i finished ahead of plenty of runners i normally finish behind in races which either shows i'm in good shape or they are in bad shape, i'll take the former of those thanks. Head down now again and get the last of the training in.
