You won't get Freeview HD as that requires DVB-T2. Saorview HD and Freeview SD should work as normal.

    What's saorview HD?
I get rte 1 and 2 in hd with a samsung syncmaster 2333hd which says it only has DVB-T via digital aerial.
I can tell they're hd when i switch to tv3 or find rte+1

Says nothing about this tv though.

By 'Saorview HD' I'm just clarifying that Saorview's HD content will work on this TV.

I have the previous year's model to this and it is an excellent tv.

I paid €600 for it at the time so would say that this looks a bargain for the newer model.

Hmmm, really tempted. Don't think I can justify the money though :(

    Hi guys,

I just came across this TV.

What is iBood like? Is it reputable and trustworthy?

How long do you have to avail of the offer, 24 hours?

Offer is only available today until midnight I think (or maybe 23.00pm).

I have bought from Ibood and found them quite decent although there seem to be mixed reports on boards. Issues seem mainly around returning faulty products and the cost incurred in doing that. also, their customer support seems to have some issues.

They ship from Holland and it generally takes 3-4 weeks to get your item.

3-4 weeks from when you order or 3-4 weeks from when they send you the shipping notice do you know?

How often have you bought from them?

So, basically returning a product to Holland comes from your own pocket if faulty.

    Bit skeptical now!

Its a deal alright but claiming it was €749 on iBOOD page is wrong
    It is £385 ~ €466 on Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-UE40F5500-inch-1080-pixels/dp/B00DSSBNSO
€102 saving compared to Amazon & not €350 as claimed on iBOOD

You can't get this TV shipped from Amazon and it's a third party seller. VAT would also bring the price up.

Ordered this this morning after getting the mail from iBood. Will replace a 37 inch LED I got off them before which has served me well.

Ive bought a few tvs for elderly neighbours now and DVB-T is the only thing I ever look for, never let me down for Saorview reception...

You need Freeview HD capable TV to get Saorview. Saorview gets transmitted as HD and downscaled to SD for SD set top boxes. If this only had DVB-T them it will not work with Saorview.

It will work fine with a set top box though.

Hi, this is actually not strictly true and there seems to be a misconception that saorview needs a DVB-T2 tuner. Yes, you can get saorview with a Freesat HD tv. But you may get saorview (incl HD channels) with this TV as the tuner is DVB-T and saorview is broadcast sing DVB-T. ("Saorview Approved" certification required DVB-T2, however. Not sure why this is but perhaps to futureproof the service).

What we need to determine is if this TV has an MPEG-4 decoder.
    According to this site: http://www.lcd-compare.com/televiseur-SAMUE32F5500-SAMSUNG-UE32F5500.htm

This series has MPEG4. So this TV will get Saorview.

With DVB-T + MPEG-4 decoder, you will get the SaorView service.

    "Freeview" uses DVB-T + MPEG2
    "Freeview HD" uses DVB-T2 + MPEG4
    "Saorview" uses DVB-T + MPEG4

the mpeg 4 determines the "HD" aspect, not the DVB standard.

    see here:
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056105270

    Hope that helps...

FYI, i bought this TV, the UE46F6500:

    http://www.ibood.com/ie/en/product_specs/44145/Samsung_46_inch_117cm_3D_LED_Smart_TV_with_400_Hz_refresh_and_Smart_Touch_Remote_with_voice_control/

from ibood a few weeks back (took 3 weeks for the ship, but that was made clear at the time of purchase) and it works fine. The TV was originally set to the italy region so the only thing I had to do was change the county in the Engineering/Service Menu (I don't mean the smartTV app country. You can google how to get to the engineering menu) to get the full Freesat EPG. (The F5500 has no DVB-S tuner so you wont get freesat on that)

    I stand corrected. **** me it's confusing.

Just to double check b4 I order or not. I have a fta box ariva 120, and a aerial for my saorview which plugs into the 120.

Will my present setup work on this tv do you think, a poster mentioned earlier that you would only receive sd on fta only.
Thanks in advance for any info given.

You can plug the aerial into this TV and receive the HD Saorview. Your box will also work with this and you will get HD via that if you connect with a HDMI cable.

It will pick up saorview on its own Pat but you'll have to plug an ariel into the port on the back, thats just the Irish channels in tv mode. Probably handier to stay watching the Irish channels on the Ariva as you're doing so you dont need to be hopping between TV/AV/HDMI when moving between Irish and UK channels.

You can plug the Ariva in to either the AV (standard def) or HDMI (high def) ports on the back and watch the Saorview and sattelite channels on that the way you currently are. The Ariva picks up RTE HD and BBC HD and any others no problem but you have to hook it up with a HDMI cable not SCART, grab one in Dealz if theres one near you or check the poundshops/Ebay, a cheap HDMI cable is fine.

Word of warning if you are thinking of going for this - it will end at 11pm Irish time (its midnight c.e.t.) ...... very tempted by this , hard to justify with a perfectly working tv at home though. ..... or is it ...... must be strong. ..... although must not miss out. .......

    Hi folks

Totally clueless regarding technology here, mother has a Philips TV and the screen has started to get splodgy ten years on so she's been hunting for a bargain TV. Her old TV doesn't even have a HDMI port, that's how old it is.

She has a saorview box, will this work with it?

Yes or the aerial could be just plugged into the TV as per the posts above as it has inbuilt technology that means it doesn't require a seperate box.

hey all, ive been reading the previous comments and trying to figure out the pro/cons of this.

SO far i am wondering, if this is a 3pin plug standard set up.

also what freeview channels will i get, basically will i get rte,tv3 etc irish freeview?

will this work with Sky satellite?

Haha why would you want or need to use a wireless keyboard and mouse on the tv..

Just share a network drive and the tv will pick up the drive and be able to play files from it with the remote, though the interface is crap, better off just with a HDMI cable attached to a PC/laptop with Xbmc or something running on it. Should also supports USB drives if u don't want to go that way.

Tv3 player is available on Samsung TVs to answer someone else's question.

In relation to the 3 pin plug- the lead is a normal figure of 8 lead - easily replace for a 3 pin plug one if necessary.
Saorview will give you the Irish channels (RTE1/2, TV3/3e, TG4, RTE Jr, RTE Now, +1 and radio stations)
Works fine with Sky - HDMI direct from Sky box or SCART via HDMI adapter (supplied) if no HDMI on Sky box.
