After many, many false starts, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic "Preacher" is apparently to be made by AMC.

I hope they can finally come through with this. It's a great series and will make a great show. I just hope that it's content doesn't mean they cut out half of it to make it more presentable for TV.

If they cut anything they may as well just not bother at all.

Seth Rogen is involved. Ah well, at least they tried.

I'd be a lot more excited if it was HBO instead of AMC, as a lot of the more extreme content may get cut

I agree, but I'd be more worried about the religious subtext. I think The Walking Dead has shown that graphic, even extreme content, can work on basic cable. I'm just not sure that AMC have the stomach to get into the god stuff.

Edit: Saying that, 'extreme' means a very different thing when it comes to Preacher. It's just on a different level.

It may have worked on Starz as well.

Hope they get an actual Irishman to play Cassidy instead of a dodgy accent being used the whole time

I remember seeing a test shot of Arseface makeup a while back for one of the other stalled productions of Preacher and here it is

Posting the link instead of the pic in case people don't want to look at that lovely face.

I was really excited when I heard about this.
I can't think of anyone that I would like to be cast for the role though.

When I seen Seth Rogan being involved I was a bit weary, hopefully he approaches it as more of a comic fan than his style of media.

AMC have done some good stuff, walking dead as mentioned before and Breaking Bad, I think they could do a decent job although HBO would of been preferable

I think Sam Rockwell or Guy Pearce would make a good Cassidy (if they can do an Irish accent)

Hmmm, From watching Misfits, he's well able for the loose cannon role, but how's his accent? Imagine if they went for the crazy idea of casting an Irish actor to play an Irish vampire? Even get Rudy's predecessor and cast Robert Sheehan, though we know he doesn't really like to commit to tv series for too long.

hopefully he picks up the accent from Ruth Negga

Ruth Negga's real life fella actor Dominic Cooper is rumoured for the part of Jesse Custer

Like the casting so far, good to see an Irish girl in the mix :)

Going to re-read the comics fairly soon in preparation.

Jaysus Joe Gilgun.. that's some attempt at an Irish accent!

Not blown away - but it's a cracking cast to I'll reserve judgement!

Have to say im a big fan of the comic, ill be looking forward to this..

Yeah his own accent is far to strong to pull off an Irish accent.

To be honest, if it wasn't called Preacher, I'd have a hard time recognising it from that trailer.

To be fair he did a flawless scottish accent in Lockout.

Looked fairly far removed from the comic. Aside from the presence of a guy in a dog-collar causin a ruckus, I'd have been hard pressed to identify it.

I don't know if Dominic Cooper is the best guy they could have got for the role. His accent seems pretty legit, but he looks too handsome and hunky; he's fashionably dishevelled. I'd have reservations about whether I can buy him as a man who has been to hell and back. Could turn out to work perfectly of course, but it could turn out to be an unavoidable bum note that ruins everything.

That "Irish" accent is criminal, but we do have to remember that it's aimed at a stateside audience, the vast majority of which have no idea what a genuine Irish accent sounds like. As much as we'd all love the real deal, I don't feel too cheated, because they're obviously trying to paint a identifiable Irish character for dozens of millions of people who wouldn't readily recognize native accents. For better or worse (worse in any Irish persons opinion granted), I'm willing to accept it for now.

I'm anticipating and dreading this in equal measure!

I hope it's not sh1te. The graphic novels are sublime.

that trailer doesnt look to have much to do with the source.

    no sunglasses on Cass.

We only got 5 words of Gilgun's "Irish accent", so I wouldn't be too quick to condemn him, since Cassidy had been drinking in that scene (and how many of us haven't gone Full Oirish while drinking?)... That said, I've a lot of time for Joseph Gilgun, if it were anyone else I'd probably not be this forgiving and patient.

It looks good. Haven't gotten around to reading the comics yet (although I'm aware it's amazing, obviously), so I can't compare yet. Hopefully I'll get a chance to plough through the comics over the holidays in time for the series...

    Haven't read the comic.

First impressions of this trailer were good, reminded me a lot of Breaking Bad for some reason. Obviously it's same network of course.

Have they announced who's cast as Saint of Killers?
Can't seem to find it online.

I think Gilgun's accent works,I always got the vibe from Cassidy in the comics that he played up his "oirish" accent, gives him a bit of lovable Irish scamp status to add to his charm. But yeah, its only one sentence so its probably a bit daft to judge it yet!

As much as I love the comics, I'd be glad to see this get a bit of an update and take a slightly different approach to the story. For the most part, The Walking Dead has worked pretty well without being overly beholden to to the source material but still keeping the same spirit and overall atmosphere.

Cassidy has been around from about 1898 so he would have a fairly strong old Irish accent. More turn of the century.

Not sure I want to see Preacher watered down into tv gruel tbh, they'll have to cut all the best stuff. Good looking cast though.

TV is the only way to go with it at all. The other option would be to make a film, which couldn't work at all without all the threads of story. I cant even think of a section that would work as a standalone (except Salvation). As it is, im wondering how much of the story we will get, with a suggestion that we wont see items such as
Cass's history with drugs and infatuation with Tulip, and I've seen no mention of the Saint of Killers yet, or ANYTHING to do with fallen angels of any type or the Grail
. I might have missed something though, and im hoping that we get a lot of that.

As far as the cast goes, I'm happy with pretty much everyone included so far. Rate them all highly as actors.

First episode was shown at the TCA press tour on Thursday night. Reviews are embargoed but seems to be getting positive first impressions and can read a brief summary of the panel here
    http://ie.ign.com/articles/2016/01/09/seth-rogen-and-evan-goldberg-on-bringing-preacher-to-tv

Ruth Negga must do well with the accent for it because was reading comments that they were shocked when they heard her Irish accent on the panel.

I wonder if the TV show will be set in the 1990s or the present.

Does anyone know if any Irish channel will be showing this? I read that Amazon have bought the UK, Germany and Japan.

I was listening to a TV.com podcast where they'd seen screeners for some new shows and they said Preacher was maybe the most violent thing they'd ever seen in a TV show.

A great pilot I really enjoyed it and it looks like they have a winner on there hands with Preacher.

Watched it on Amazon this morning. Really liked it.

Joseph Gilgun sounds like Pat Shortt, it's incredible, it literally sounds like they got Pat Shortt to overdub his scenes :)

Loved the Tom Cruise bit :D

I was reading a review there and it mentions the pilot being 90 minutes?

The episode on Amazon is a little over an hour long. Was the reviewer maybe watching a screener or did Amazon cut stuff out?

90 minutes inclusive of ads in the US typically means not much longer than an hour..

I thought that myself but the way he phrased it made it sound like there was 90 minutes of actual show.
That combination of genres, tones, and oddities made Preacher quite a bit to take in for a pilot. At times this episode was very slow—dedicated to establishing both Jesse's normal life as a crummy preacher and his rural, non-PC community—and at others, thrillingly surreal and action-packed. The final result was a 90-minute affair that, for the entirely non-initiated, probably played more like an extended prologue and less like an actual pilot.

The same guy was talking about it on a podcast last week and they mentioned having seen 2 episodes so I think they had press screeners.

I actually emailed Sony to ask, because I'm losing control of my life.
    Hi Anthony

May we thank you for taking the time to contact us directly here at Sony Pictures Television.

We can confirm currently Preacher will not be available in Ireland

We apologise we cannot assist further on this occasion

    Kind regards

I was glued to my TV for the whole 65 minutes run time, this is going to be one interesting show if they keep it up.

There were so many WTF moments in it that I just had to re-watch is again to make sure I got it all in.

The teaser for next week is also great, I am so looking forward to see next episode, if this would be served Netflix style I would still be watching.

What day does this come out ? watching the pilot now and I don't want to wait too long for the next one
