I also see that in response to a query on the airport facebook page apparently the 51X service from Limerick-Galway may be extended to run via the Airport. Current bus access to Galway is infrequent and prehistorically slow.

I seen that. Possibly increased within 4 weeks. It would be a big win for the Airport.

May I ask though, will increasing the LHR route actually increase the pax numbers? Times are the same, just a slightly larger aircraft.

Yes because there will be more seats available at X (lower) price before it increases to Y (higher) price

Also, in other news, SNN-PIS (Poitiers) will be cancelled for the months of September and October. It ends the 4th of September. Shall we see it returning in 2016?

Doubt it. Don't know why they thought Poitiers was better then Nantes. Nantes had good loads as well.

When will the A320 start SNN-LHR?

Winter Season 2015, so the 24th to 26th October.

The A320 on LHR is more operational rather than passenger demand but still good news as they won't be with EI to long. I'm sure they will increase numbers though.

The UK Airport Provisional Statistics for April seems to be complete now.

Gatwick was missing and Heathrow seems to have been updated too.

The overall total UK figures are down -10.2% as against the same month from last year.

A call for tenders for the refurb of the arrivals hall and departures lounge has been released

No harm! The arrivals hall and departures lounge are getting a little dated at this stage.

Comfortable soft seats and bright, clean bathrooms similar to LHR etc would suit me anyway!

*On the LHR note, I notice that Aer Lingus have return fares to LHR at around €100 from November, the cheapest I have witnessed. Are they trying to win back some of the Pax from RYR? The A320 is also still not in the scheduling system. I wouldn't worry, it took EI months to put the B767 in the system.

*From Late October, Aer Lingus are slightly altering the timing of their Transatlantic flights from Shannon for winter 2015/16.
Both departure times from Shannon are the same.
Arrival in JFK is now scheduled to be 20mins later than last year, arriving at 15:00 (making it a 7hour, 40min flight) and the return is departing 20mins later at 18:40, (making it a 6hr 20min flight)
Arrival in Boston is now 15mins later than last year at 13:55. (Making it a 7hr 15min flight). The return flight leaves at 19:20 and arrives at Shannon at 06:10 (06:15 last year) (making it a 5hr 50mins flight)

*Ryanair have added a third set of Cardiff return flights for the Rugby in October. Maybe they may consider launching flights to DUB and SNN regularly to compete with Flybe? LINK:http://corporate.ryanair.com/news/news/150525-additional-rugby-world-cup-specials/market=ie

*Poitiers has been removed for booking after the 2nd of September. Previously the times were shown but now they are not. Hopefully another more lucrative French route will replace it for 2015 (and operate the full season)

*Memmingen will be the last of the Summer Seasonal RYR flights to end, its operating up the the 10th of NOV. (What was that about poor loads?)

*Fuerteventura will be replaced by Tenerife South for the winter Season.

That's all the recent updates I have noticed Scheduling and routes from Shannon.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,466 ✭✭✭highlydebased

Speaking of Memmingen out of pure curiosity I just had a look at the seat map for tomorrows Memmigen-SNN flight and 167 seats are taken/checked in. That's not bad going for a flight from 1 airport in the middle of nowhere to another airport in the middle of nowhere! ;)

Ryanair to drop Shannon-Fuerteventura service this winter (Clare Herald)

Ryanair has been forced to drop one of its year-round services from Shannon this winter because of a ‘lack of aircraft capacity’ even though the airline will still ground 50 planes for the season.

    **************************************************************

    Some contradiction!

    Also, note these two things:

    1. There is actually space for a FUE service. Due to the loss of the Beauvais service on Thursdays

    2. Fuerteventura is being replaced by TFS, so no loss really.

Some of the usual Ryanair blackmail tactics when they are asked to pay more or maybe them wanting to pay less?
Or as mentioned above, flying somewhere else. Friedrichshafen was dropped fairly sharply when Memmingen became available.

Very interesting snippet from http://www.iagshares.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=240949&p=irol-newsArticle&ID=2053276 shown above.

BA1 and BA3 may soon be taking on passengers from Shannon! Philadelphia and New York may go year round. Looks interesting.

Philadelphia and New York would be good to have year round. Can see no benefit however of taking passengers on BA1 or BA3..and BA3 doesn't even clear US CBP does it? Having year around EI to JFK and BOS and UA on EWR is plenty as well as DL in the summer!

Would be nice to see some viable European connections though and some sort of return of Stobart.

Bhx returning from June 18th :P
Of course the old Stobart base would be great to have back.

Also your correct, BA3 does not pre-clear. Cant see much benefit on it taking on pax tbh, we already have alot of Transatlantic flights to New York with loads of business class on each.

While I don't see much benefit it could allow for day trips for the odd business passenger but noting major on separate bookings eg with EI in and BA out,

Sustaining what's here will be priority an ensuing profitability all year round is the real objective I expect.

Yeah, we need Edinburgh back though ;) Yeah plenty of NY services with business class availability. They also depart earlier than BA 1/3 just can't see why they would. And the price of that BA service is huge!

Shannon Group Chairman welcomes proposed IAG takeover of Aer Lingus (Shannon Airport)

The Chairman of Shannon Group plc, Rose Hynes, has today welcomed the proposed IAG takeover of Aer Lingus and the Government decision to sell its 25% share in Aer Lingus to IAG.

“This decision paves the way for IAG to take over Aer Lingus. It's good news; it’s a positive opportunity for Ireland, will safeguardthe Shannon Heathrow connectivity for seven years and it opens the door to further growth at Shannon,” she said. . . . . .

    ************************************************************

Seven years connectivity to Heathrow is a good outcome as it will give the airport a degree of planning certainty.

It will be interesting to see what business (US, UK, Europe) the airport can grow with IAG (Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia and Vueling).

  • Registered Users Posts: 18,140 ✭✭✭✭JCX BXC

Madrid and/or Barcelona would be great routes to get. Madrid may be possible with IAG's push for South american traffic through the Iberia hub. They seemed to emphasise that in the deal with Aer Lingus.

The Westpark Business Campus planning application (15199) for Office Blocks 1000 and 2000 has been approved.

The parapet of Office Block 1000 shall be lowered by 275mm.

    (See posts 1871, 1874)

    ************************************************************

Shannon Airport Authority has a planning application (15329) made for the 61m extension of the landside covered walkway.

    See Rocklyn Engineering.

    ************************************************************

Shannon Commercial Properties has a planning application (15330) made for a large extension to the GE Sensing building (Shannon Free Zone East).

I wonder do they manufacture sensors and sensing instruments for the aviation industry too?
