Good to read that last year, it handled 11,547 tonnes of cargo, a rise of 10.9 per cent on 2014.

But it is still a long way off past volumes, where for example in 1988 they handled 22,563 tonnes.

Pakistan International Airlines flight (PK711) from Manchester to JFK New York has diverted to Shannon.

    **** Update ****

Flight reports smoke on board and makes emergency landing at Shannon (Breaking News)

A transatlantic flight has diverted to Shannon Airport this afternoon after the crew declared an emergency, reporting smoke on board.

Pakistan Airlines flight PK-711 from Manchester to New York was just north of Omagh in Co Tyrone when the crew requested permission to divert to Shannon.

Airport crash crews took up positions at dedicated holding points along the runway in advance of the aircraft's arrival. There were 205 passengers and crew on board.

Fire crews from Shannon town and Limerick city were mobilised to the airport along with ambulances from Ennis and Limerick.

Before the Boeing 777-300 jet could land, the crew had to dump several thousand litres of aviation fuel to ensure they could land within safe landing weight limits.

The flight touched down safely at 2.38pm.

Fire crews quickly surrounded the jet on the runway to check whether the landing gear had overheated during the heavy landing.

The jet was able to taxi to the terminal where a further investigation of the problem is being undertaken.

Usually around 2-3pw, started several months ago, just the times are very all over the place, have seen it countless times by now though.

The flights serve Chicago, Atlanta and New York and don't always stop in Shannon even though scheduled to do so. Winds over the Atlantic could be favourable enough to allow a direct routing.

The only routes FR have not already attacked are EDI and BHX, is it really worth it for them to attack them? The market would be limited.

Further growth by FR is unlikely to be negative at this stage, they have already destroyed UK connectivity, not much more left to do.

It's those routes that would cause more damage, bucket and spade not a major issue as both can make money together.

    Anything else is all good.

From my perspective I see very little to gain by attacking BHX and EDI. Their schedules are already limited at best and alot of traffic route via DUB anyway.

Shannon Group plc, which includes Shannon Airport, Shannon Commercial Properties and Shannon Heritage, in its first full year of trading recorded total turnover of €65.6m in 2015 with post-tax profits of €7.3m.

Wonder why they left out the airport profit/loss, last year they announced it, anyone know where I could access it?

There's accounts on the annual report.

Of course, if they include profit for the other business divisions then you could just subtract them ;)
