Oh I don't think it'd be one match, like I said over the course of time enough matches/events would be able to spur up 2 million subscriptions cumulatively. For example huge Shield fans might go for Ambrose/Rollins, Money in the Bank would drum up interest and casuals would go for the likes of SummerSlam, the Rumble and Mania. I don't think getting 2 million individual subs is unrealistic over the course of a year or two. The problem is getting them all recurring at the same time. I'm not sure their core market is vast enough to get that return.

But we're in unchartered territory here, I don't think even WWE are aware of all of the factors that can swing things one way or another yet, so who knows?

The key number is homes that view Raw, not people. It's less than 3 million.

There is no way 70% of the homes who watch Raw are buying the network. It's effectively impossible. About 70% of their audience are passive viewers who never, ever, ever bought pay per views. They are fine just to have Raw in the background while they fiddle with their iphones or flick around the channels.

I think people are slightly misunderstanding me here, my own fault. I'm not saying they're nailed on to hit projections. I'm saying the opposite: while 2 million may be feasible in terms of the amount of people who will at one stage click 'Subscribe' over the next couple of years, they don't have the audience to get 2 million at the same time recurring, which is what they need.

But people are also discounting international audiences when quoting the %'s that watch Raw. America is far from their only market and keep in mind the Network isn't even available in Canada yet, which is another HUGE market.

Since 10-15% of the Network are said to be International already, and 40% of WrestleMania buys are international (before the Network launch), it's reasonable to estimate about 1 million subscribers worldwide come next year's Mania. Maybe there just isn't that big a paying market for WWE. With the SNMEs out and Nitro to come, man I hope it doesn't collapse.

It won't collapse. Streaming is the future. There's no going back because piracy will continue to get worse.

PPV is dying. It has to work some way or the other, even if it means less revenue than the recent PPV days.

PPV as a medium isn't dying - Boxing and MMA do great when big fights are on (i.e. it depends on content and injuries/quitting). Sure Bellator just got double their expected number of buys. I agree WWE can't give up but it's not looking good. If they can't raise subscriptions then WWE'll likely put PPVs back on PPV!

I wouldn't listen to any piracy concerns - it's a problem for any major TV show, film or album, WWE are no different. The more popular something is, the more pirated it is. I bet people who know how to stream (Netflix, WWE Network etc) know how to pirate more than those who don't.

WWE are a publicly traded company with shareholders to please, so I wouldn't expect them to keep on a loser for years on end instead of biting the bullet and moving back to PPV if it meant more money.

Agree re: PPV not dying. ROH are putting on a PPV and while it win't do massive numbers it'll still be interesting to see how well it does do.

The WWE would like you to think PPV is dying since they have lost some major PPV providers because of the Network. If and when the WWE were to go back now to these providers the wont have the upper hand and Vince won't like that one bit.

PPV is far from a dying media outlet.

It isn't going anywhere any time soon but if the subscriptions are still way off this time next year, they will have to start asking the hard questions.

The thing is the numbers there aren't accounting for spikes for SummerSlam etc. I also think people are reading too much into Mania numbers: it's a new product, think of it like a games console, the majority usually wait to hear what it's like from the first batch who purchase. Reviews are almost unanimously positive. I think WWE underestimated this factor in their projections for year one.

Again, I'm not saying there's no cause for concern all the same.

Going to watch a random event no matter how good it bad so I think it would be a bit of fun if some other people join in. So you can post up a random ppv from either wwe or ecw or wcw. Then you watch it and give a little report. Dosent have to be long just a few words on it maybe what you like didn't like etc.

Might be a bit of craic I think. Anyway if someone would like to help me out and give me a random ppv, good or bad I'll watch it tonight and thank you or hate you later :P

I was only messing about WM 11 mate. It's brutal!!

Scotty Vs Malenko actually turns out to be one the best lightweight matches in the history of the title in WWE

Did anyone else get this message when paying through Paypal?

In some ways they tell the story of WWF's 1980s than their Pay Per Views.

Anyone found Saturday Night's Main Event on the PS3? Can't see it there myself, there's no shows in this week's schedule and nothing came from various searches for wrestlers who were in SNME matches.

Oh you got it, cool. Depends what you like but... watch all of the 1989 PPVs specifically those with Flair vs Steamboat. And the Clash of the Champions from that year.

Total Divas is being added this week.

It came up on a search on my laptop as the only episode of Saturday Nights Main Event.

Hulk and Brooke open it :(
