PWInsider on some grim news for the WWE Network:

More from Dave Scherer on WWE Network subscriptions:

    Quote
There are some within the company that have intimated to us that when the WWE second quarter numbers are released, the number of subscribers will actually go down (which to be clear we can't confirm at this time). When this was mentioned on audio yesterday, subscribers asked how it is possible that the numbers could drop given that people made a six-month commitment when they signed up. It's easy to explain. If there is no money on the debit or credit card someone signed up with, when WWE tries to draw payment they will not get it. Eventually, the subscriber in question is cut off, reducing the numbers.

I've heard mixed experiences about how hard or easy it is to cancel.

Haven't watched that video but sure sheamus could be throwing the few irish beauties and the Americans wouldn't have a clue.

Exactly this. Debit cards will bounce left, right and centre. Anybody subscribing through PayPal can cancel their recurring payment at any time. Did it myself last week.

Can we ? Oh right. So if you stop the PayPal payment the next time they look for a payment it ain't they stop you ? But aren't all people not in the us using PayPal though ?

I've heard exactly this but others (all Stateside) have had cancelling your mobile phone contract level banging your head against the wall level woes.

On your last payment to the network click on transaction details.. you will see an option to cancel future payments. It's impossible to get a six month commitment through PayPal.

Maybe it's unique to PayPal in Europe? It's like signing up for the observer or the torch it automatically renews but you cancel at any time.

Debit cards is also an issue though. It should be six months up front or discounts for a year Etc.

I've thought about cancelling my sub by way of a sneaky Paypal cancellation but I've probably not exhausted the network as much as I'd have liked. Have had it since day one and have onpy scratched the surface of old(er) non-WWF stuff. The new PPVs I can take or leave but it's gotten me back into the current stuff so I am in that catwgory of lapsed fan.

Caught some of the 'Vintage' show on Sky Sports yesterday and though the matches were clipped I liked it. They should put compilations of matches up a la their DVD comps (only better). Can't imagine it would be that labour-intensive.

Nice to see the AWA documentary added though all the same.

Plus it's only €7 a month. Worth it if even just to have access to everything if ever you get a random urge to watch something phenomenally good (or bad) from the past.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,301 ✭✭✭✭gerrybbadd

I still think it's well worth the money, even though I might just use it at weekends for a couple of hours. For the live PPVs alone, and the saving over Sky Box Office, it's more than worth it

Exactly. After the initial binge of going through old PPVs and the like I watch it maybe twice a month now if that. But it is good to have it there and well worth it for the PPVs alone.

The Network is a great service for fans of the WWE and at such a tiny cost I'll be continuing to support it.

Getting really annoyed with this now. My wallet went missing a few weeks ago so to be safe i cancelled my cards, one of which was my visa debit card used for my Network subscription. Now I have new cards and am trying to set it up with my Network account but there seems to be no way to do that, other than creating a new account.

The whole process on the WWE website is so awkward and broken. Has anyone been able to change the card type for their account with any success????

It's most definitely worth the €10 a month. The only reason I cancelled was I was unable to find a way to watch on Android phone and tablet.

I actually felt kinda bad doing it because I hope the network is a success.

Hadn't used it since Mania.I will definitely be subscribing when it's available here.

Watching Bo Dallas getting turfed out of the NXT Arena was worth every penny I've paid for the Network to this point.

Decided to rematch the hall of fame ceremony. :D mr T still makes me laugh and Kane's induction was excellent. Jakes was intense but then the guy is intense. I laughed at Carlito and the not one **** he gave on the night.

Could they pull the plug on the network.

I'm sure they could. But there's too much invested in it so I doubt they will

They've put more than 50 million dollars into it so probably not. I don't know what the ongoing costs are but it is suspected that they may have cut bad deals to get it up running on the various platforms. The network is eating into their DVD and PPV money and with the latter they have pissed off the PPV companies and you could also say they devalued their PPVs by offering them for a tener as opposed to fifty.

Either a price hike or making the PPVs unmissable to increase the subs is what I assume is needed. It'll take time to become profitable.

They simply need to go back to the days of old plus make loads of additional changes.

Enough of these bull dirt "stories" . A bit of banter is grand, but when you have 10 minute segments of fools standing in a ring talking crap all interest is lost.

Stop taking commercial breaks during a match, ridiculous.

And could Michael Cole please relax himself a little, talk about an over the top commentor. It doesn't make a match any more exciting just makes me want to put Cole in the ring and have Big Show jump on his head.

Plus, almost any match you watch now there just seems to be more and more sloppy stunt fails. "oops, that didn't work".

It's an entertainment show, so show the entertainment as fake as it is and let us enjoy it in peace.

    Rant over,..........that feels better.:D

Just ad the crap out of the network

Have heard this suggested. Think it would be a horrible move. Am sure it might get them a few quid but it would be utterly excruciating to have to sit through forced adverts you can't skip if you are say, flicking through a load of PPVs to watch Ric Flair matches.

"WWE Network, it's just like Netflix but with annoying adverts"

Hulu has ads afaik but they show new episodes of quality programming. Week-to-week the only newly created shows on the Network are the C-shows: NXT, Superstars and Main Event.

Isn't it that hulu has ads but is free, hulu plus has more content and is ad free?

Hulu Plus has back catalogue of some shows without ads but all recently broadcast shows have ad breaks.

The limited film collection they have is ad free but they do have The Criterion Collection so it's pretty good.

It's somewhat bizare given how absurdly saturated WWE tv shows are in ads that the Network is ad free.

Definitely pissed away a lot of revenue. I'd be perfectly fine with a 30s ad here and there on the Network.

Yeah. I'm sure WWE are aware of the amount of money on the table with ads and definitely will since it's underperforming. They'll probably have a staggered release - start putting ads for other Network shows, then start selling adspace after people get used to that. Like nobody complains that WrestleMania has full blown ads in it these days!
