He scored two from play. Missed two easy ones nice layoff to McMahon for a goal chance and for McMahons point
part of two goal opportunities laid off two points . Won two or three frees we scored from.

Did well overall imo. Deceptively quiet was isolated and took a lot of wstching

Enright had his part to play. Himself and Griffen were terrific.

Great win yesterday. Tough game. I thought we performed better than Kerry for 60 of the 75 minutes, but the 15 minutes they were on top was hard going. Cluxton had a brain fart before half time. The mistake for the first goal was easily forgivable considering he was under a fair bit of pressure, and was still going for a pinpoint diagonal ball, instead of hoofing it into the middle of the park. The next few minutes were disappointing as the calmness we have come to expect deserted him. The second goal was a function of that lack of calmness.

Great work in the second half to overcome the 5 point lead. Didn't panic, stuck to the script, clipped on score after score.

Macker deserved all the plaudits. Defence played very well, including David Byrne, who had a tough first half against Geaney. I thought Dean Rock was brilliant yesterday. Four points from play, one missed free. Slowly but surely becoming one of our main men in attack.

DC was very good too. A good disciplined performance. Delighted.

Rock got 2 from play, not 4 - 8 frees plus 2 from the 45.

At the rate Mayo gave away frees against Tipp, he could have a major say in the final.

Flynn apart from being quiet also shipped a heavy knock in the 1st half to his thigh. McCarthy was slower than his usual self even before that massive hit on (Enright) ? he's definetely done damage to the shoulder, was tackling one handed and blocking with a waving arm. Both would be big concerns going into the final

Yes he was poor on a number of occasions, let lads drift by, his shoulder was obviously a concern and he was minding it.
Small had a knock before the game . I thought the two boys picked up brogan fairly well, but overall I'd he happy with his contribution from play, he showed well and won a lot of ball played into him sometimes there were two or three around him, for example Enright didn't get out ahead if him much.
We only had two forwards score more from play, Connelly with three did McManamon get 2 or 3.
Brogan starts for me anyway. Number 14 is very difficult to play these days everyone is crowded , lads running in off the shoulder have more opportunity to score.
Geaney did very well yesterday in that roll, possibility the best we've seen this season. He was the focal point of many attacks

On Rock i though he started the second half very well, was first to a number of balls and scored a lovely point from play

Interesting from yesterday, the subs were mainly offensive, Gavin to be commended for same, no Bastic, Lowndes or Daly just Fitzsimmons. Mannion for Small, O'Gara for MDMA
Mannions roll was different too. He was well marshalled when he came on.

How many games are we unbeaten now in total?

Also, just had a burrito to get me over the slump.

Kerry last team to beat us. Or Longford if the O'Byrne Cup counts.

If it doesn't that's 27 games unbeaten in League and Championship since March last year.

The whole game's still a blur .. not helped by the fact Mrs Doc had a Cluxton moment and forgot to record the game. I'm working off a foggy memory

I was thinking League and Championship.

24 is some run all things considered.

What options have you from the bench?

:D .. can't think of the number of times I gave her the teamtalk of no-ones position being safe - her stats have been quite impressive upto now in fairness :P

Malachy Clerkin says 27 in his piece on the IT cover today.

And I don't think I counted the Mayo Replay.

    So back I go.

I would like to get Andrews into that team. I think he offers us a lot wherever he plays in the forward line.

Big Brogan fan, but is there a case for him to become an impact player? I know he got two from play, but they were handy enough scores.

Cooper, Fenton, Kev and Deano had great games. Cooper has really stepped it up.

A liitle birdie told me that Flynner didn't train for nearly 2 weeks and James Mc had painkilling injections at HT for the shoulder

Some players don't make impacts off the bench, not suggesting Brogan wouldn't but I love Kev Mc coming off the bench it must be a nightmare for tired defenders with his strong direct running. Some players need to grow into games.

Brogan tied up Defenders yesterday leaving space for the other 2 (or 5 etc) to utilise.

Defenders are damned if they do and damned if they don't with Berno. He has to start.

Berno has a great track record against Mayo. It would be madness to drop him.

5 of the 6 are safe for the final. Andrews only starts if Gavin reacts to Flynn's average form. Unlikely I'd say.

Paul Flynn was quite poor yesterday,he should have a fight on his hands for his final spot.

    Flynner was injured/not 100%

Needless to say I found the whole thing very funny.

Fair enough on Brogan, lads. Not sure I would drop him, but I would think about it if I were JG.

What exactly happens at these open nights? Do you watch the team train, or is it all just players signing autographs for kids?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,569 ✭✭✭✭ProudDUB

No, the lads themselves don't train. In 2013, they trained a couple of local underage teams, did a few coaching drills with them, that kind of thing. Then they signed autographs for about 90 minutes. Last year, it was just the autographs.

It was a free for all last year .. no structure to the event .. it was the big children that hogged the players to the relative exclusion of the kids ..

Finally got to watch the match back this evening. Jaysus it was even edge of the seat stuff on the tv and already knowing the result.

Credit to both teams because that was a brilliant game with lots of subtle tactical changes throughout.

O'Sullivan was a huge loss to Kerry when he went off and Geaney had a brilliant game. Still have no idea why EF took him off.

The workrate from our lads was unreal and the tv just didn't give it credit. Berno was working his sock off the whole game and created a lot of space inside that we failed to use at times.

Kilkenny and Dermo had really goid games. The amount of tracking back and distribution they got through was frightening.

Fenton has a serious engine on him. Struggled a little at times but I felt he was left a little exposed at times with MDMA caught up the field a few times.

Cooper had one of his best games for us. Seemed to mop up an awful lot of ball.

Regardless of Mayo's run to the final if they beat us they be worthy champions but I just can't see it happening. This team must be an absolute nightmare to play against. They go at it as hard in the final minute as they do in the first.

If Mayo want to beat us they're going to have to prepare for the hardest day of sporting lives and even then it may not be good enough.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"
