He held Maidana over 70 times in that fight. He should have lost points.

*Score with a straight, clinch, Bayless breaks them up, repeat*

70 times. It's well detailed in the previous video I posted.

Bayless reffed the 2nd fight, Walshb was referring to to 1st in his post.

I rewatched the first 4 rounds there just to make sure I hadn't been caught up in the moment and it was actually an exciting fight, and I stand by my earlier comments.

Also in terms of Mayweather being uncomfortable, I don't know how someone going to their corner and telling them 'I can't see' with a seriously worried tone to their voice is anything other than them being uncomfortable.
He ate a lot of hard right hands to the back of the head that night too, and some decent left hooks to both body and head.

Oh yeah, Maidana was on route to win that one but he gassed out.

Maidana is a C level fighter lets not forget. Exciting enough indeed.

Then Mayweather did what he does best, came up with the scam.

They drafted Kenny Brainless in and gave us another phony fight

Anyone else not really interested in this fight, its 6 years to late and at this stage they both aren't the fighters they once where,
One reason mma has become so big is that the big fights in boxing just don't happen when they should and its a shame,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,073 ✭✭✭MarkY91

People here now saying it will be on between 5/5:30

I just cannot be fcucked doing basically an all nighter for a boxing match.

I have to admit a few weeks ago I wasn't too hyped about this and was very much in the train of thought that this fight just came too late.
Being honest it isn't quite the fight it would have been in 2010/2011.

But with that said, there still isn't a bigger fight in the sport, and with big fights and 50/50 match ups being rarer than ever at the high end of the sport, I'm very excited for this fight now.

The main reason mma has become so popular in this country is Conor McGregor. Without him most sports fans in this country wouldn't have a clue who Jose Aldo is. Infact I doubt most sports fans in this country could name 3 current UFC title holders.

Pretty standard time for a main event in America, and plenty of us here have subjected ourselves to it for years.
If you're not willing to stay up you could always go to bed early and get up early or Sky+/catch the replay.

It's nothing new. Las Vegas big fights are always at those hours.

It's still the biggest fight of the century.

You are right though about your assertion.

    It's seriously frustrating. Blame Mayweather.

    Fight 1!

C'mon, it was a weak performance from Floyd. He never established any consistent rhythm in the fight. He resorted to ducking and diving and holding and the referee breaking them up for a lot of it. He was uncomfortable. Looked very disjointed in both fights, and his offense was limited and lacked real effectiveness.

Even though he won quite clearly, I thought the second Maidana fight was a real eye-opener. He clinched and back-pedalled all night, and for possibly the first time ever, you could see the strain of the fight showing on his face. Normally Floyd has an uncrackable poker face, but not in this one. Don't think I've ever seen him spend so much time looking at the clock either.

The most important thing Maidana achieved in those fights was forcing Floyd to give up the centre of the ring. That's so important, because if the fight happens in open country Floyd won't lose. More important than even that, the opponent has to take some of that control out of Floyd's hands. Not letting Floyd be the one deciding when and where exchanges happen, and not letting him set traps at will is vital.

I think Pac has a decent chance of forcing Floyd to give ground. He doesn't have a great jab, but he does have an unorthodox straight left, even for a southpaw, and he has an even more unusual rhythm than Maidana.

If an opponent can force Floyd to back up, and take that control away from him, then anything is possible.

I have a feeling Manny will knock Mayweather out and win this bout. He wont be lacking motivation anyway as he has been waiting for this fight for years and I think his speed and movement will be too much for the cuter Mayweather who will aim to make it go the distance. Mayweather knows he is a very dangerous opponent as he has been avoiding to fight him until now (money talks and they are coming to the end of their careers). Personally I hope Manny destroys him as Mayweather is too much of a mouth and less of a family man.

Maybe but this bigger than any MMA fight ever. Stuff that clown McGregor can only dream of

It will be around 5am. I've been staying up for American fights for years too but certainly it does not get any easier. I struggle to do it now and I'm a younger guy.

This is different though, this is the one.

Same price and you don't need a HD subscription on whatever pack you have already.

Not a fraction as excited about this as I would have been 4 or 5 years ago when I think Pac had a great chance, reckon it's a routine win for Mayweather

If Manny wins and wins convincingly (wide decision or knock out) I will promise to never bad mouth any boxer or the sport of boxing ever again and will gladly watch Frankie Gavin box his shadow for the rest of my life if it means Manny will beat Floyd handsomely.

I fell for Skys hype and ordered it last night! Im like a kid waiting for santa. Love watching all the old fights that are on all week. Have Manny backed to win it inside 7, but really I know Mayweather will win on a dodgy points decision.

This is very big business. Close rounds have to go to Floyd for the money he is worth to Vegas and to all involved. Close rounds will not go to the man who fights in Dallas, Macau, or brings his money to the Philippines. Call me cynical, but that's boxing today, that's business, and that's Vegas...
Add to that that Floyd is the better fighter and it's very likely Floyd by points.

    TBE by points for me.

Floyd has won all his bouts but some cards weren't always favorable for him. Look at the card that had it a draw with Alvarez. Also, one judge had Maidana a draw. Exact same cards as Alvarez. I don't think a judging conspiracy is all that obvious here. Floyd is not a guarantee to get a verdict if this is very close.

If Floyd loses it guarantees a rematch in Vegas if he wins he will probably retire.

He still has 1 fight after Manny on his showtime deal. I think he will fulfill that!
