Think im holding out on planning my WC until early mad January kicked in.

Will get a basic template of 7/8 must have players and fill in the fringe players as Jan progresses

Hard to say really, maybe Henderson?. He's a CM playing in a AM position. Has good energy, gets around quite a lot and is a target at set pieces. He'll often play a bit deeper than you'd like but for the price there's noone better imo, especially as he's probably the place nailed down now thanks to some good performances recently.

Sigurdsson is a good comparison IMO. That said, I haven't watched a whole lot of him but seen the full 90 of the Sunderland game at the weekend and he was playing that sort of role.

Jordan Mutch of Cardiff is one that fits the bill on that count, play's 90 every week and hits a decent score now and again.

I was thinking of him. He has performed well so far in a more advanced role than expected. Has taken chances well but can tend to disappear from games and sit deeper when Cardiff are holding a lead. I think I'd be too tempted to play him.

I was thinking more of a Livermore, Kasami, Jedinak or Parker type player. Almost guaranteed the 90. Not injured often. And If you ever need them you might get lucky with a rare goal or assist. They'll never have enough attraction to pick over your 4th playing midfielder.

Another reason to delay the wildcard is an obvious one I completely forgot about. The impact any January signings will have on teams.

Once the wildcard happens we're gonna have some SERIOUS identi-kit teams. I can't really remember last season all that well, but was it as template/obvious as this?

Probably worse , Most had Michu Bale Mata Fellaini & Walcott in midfield.

Definitely. Nearly every active team had about 6 or 7 identical players at the end of January wildcard. RVP, Suárez, Benteke, Bale, Michu, Walcott or Cazorla, Hazard or Mata and Fellani featured in most teams. Also City and United defenders as they were both keeping cleansheets. Swansea defenders too. Most notably Caulker. Begovic was most peoples keeper too.

Have to get rid of the rubbish. Boruc, Fer, Shelvey and Brady. Dunno what week to use the wild card. 5 months of regret then...

There's a tiny fraction of players who post here. I'd have fairly identical teams to most people here (coz we read the same news, tips, reccomendations), but would still be very different to most of my rivals in my own league.

I can only see my team being similar to the rest in a few players (Suarez/Rooney/Hazard maybe Walcott) as I didn't get in on the Coleman and Mertesacker wagons early on so my defence and keepers will be very different to most other teams, I'll probably have one striker different to most, and 2 midfielders.

If i still have'nt used my original wildcard, will i get the january wildcard?

If so, how do i select the january wildcard as i dont want ithe fpl website to use my original one by mistake,

I got Mertesacker on Sunday only. He's gone 0.1 already and is 80% on the way again. If he goes up another 0.2 in the next couple of weeks I might just sell him for Koscienly and take profit to use elsewhere

you'd be surprised how quickly teams change.

not every player you bring in will succeed. some will tail off. some will get injured. it's just the way things happen.

too much is made of the wildcard evening things up. it does for maybe 3GWs at most.

Very oddly, I'm quite happy with my team and may end up not using it. Saying that, I'll more than likely wait to the last day to use the wildcard.

Does it shut after the January transfer window?

You don't select a specific one if you use a wc during the month of January. Just activate the wc in January and from February onwards you'll still be able to activate another one in the same way.

Rather than even things up, I think it just shifts the balance. Those who got the first wildcard right may not do so now, and those who have been making all the wrong decisions upto now, have the chance to make unlimited transfers to put it right.

Debuchy or nastasic in the wildcard. Both 5.1 but debuchy going up tonight probably.

I've had Nas about 3 times over the last 2 years. HE's not worth it imo, you never know when he's going to play. He'll get dropped just when you need him. Demichellis and Lescott will get some games alongside Kompany.

He's got more points than Kompany and has played the same amount of minutes. Debuchy is more likely to play alright but I'd prefer to have Krul over him to get into Newcastle's defence. I think Nas is the most affordable way into City's defence.

Edit: let me word that better to the original question, my opinion is that if bringing in Debuchy will mean you have no City defenders/keeper, then i would go with Nas. I actually think Hart and Kompany back in will see more clean sheets for the second half of the year.

It's not his points that's the problem, it's how many games he will get. With Kompany fully fit (and Demichellis was also injured earlier in the season), he will be at much more of a risk of rotation. Hardly suprising that his points per minute are similiar to Kompany as neither of them are much of an atttacking threat and therefore get their points from cleanies and the odd bonus. What Kompany gives you is guaranteed minutes when fit, Nas does not. Nastasic is also quite injury prone.

Yep I get that. To be honest it comes down to what you are looking for from this transfer. Debuchy will get more minutes presumably, but overall Nastasic could get more points if he plays enough.

Personally I'd be happier with a City defender than a Newcastle one and he would be a starter each week in your team but it's a very tough call.

For the record I'm planning on having both City and Newcastle defensive coverage. I wonder if the OP can post the rest of his defence? Might make it a bit easier.

Well I was thinking of getting krul and mannone in as keepers and playing Nas along with Coleman and mert. Shaw and Chester are my other defenders so least if Nas doesn't play I'd have shaw to step in as my first choice. Have Mert and Coleman since their big price rises so not a lot of money tied up in defence.

Lads, is the last window for the wildcard GW23 so it starts at 19.45 on Tuesday 28 January and ends at 12.45 on 1st February?

Not entirely sure anymore if I'm going to activate the WC tonight.
I've 4 players to get rid of. Daniels, Moxey, Ridgewell, Jedinak. Lukaku is sell a possibility for the chop.
Ridgewell wil get the boot today but the others can possibly wait. Any injuries today will help me decide I suppose.
Who is playing it today and how many changes are ye making?

Im almost certain to play it but wont be activating it till after todays games.
Players I want rid of are my 2 keepers, dawson, johnson, oscar and maybe cabaye, terry and rooney. The reason Im playing it is more to change strategy Ive too much in defence and I want to go with 7 strong attackers.

Why change Rooney? I can understand Terry and Cabaye. Unless you plan to go 3-5-2....

Ya. I rushed into getting Cabaye in without properly thinking about it but I might just hold onto him. He's going up again tonight. I might still play the WC this GW but probably not today

I think I waited last year and played the wildcard near the end. It worked in my favour cos there was a double game week around then or one announced round then. I will sit on mine for a week or two

What happened last year was that chelsea had a back match that needed to be rescheduled because of the world club championships. That game was fixed in Jan( that wont happen this year). Then liverpool swansea due to be played in late feb was cancelled due to swansea being in carling cup final. They were able to push this forward to the fa cup weekend in mid feb( giving both teams a dgw) as both teams were out of the fa cup( probably unlikely to happen also). Bar weather postponements I dont think we will have a dgw till March. Utd city will be called off first week in march if either team progresses to the carling cup final.

Canged my mind. Wildcard tomorrow. No city cover. Am having panic attack.

I'm in no great rush to use my wildcard. My team's in pretty good shape. Really, the only change I want to make is Negredo to either Rooney or Aguero. Granted, I'm two mil short of that, so I might use my wildcard to downgrade two defenders and Mig or something to bring Rooney in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,427 ✭✭✭barneygumble99

say i transfer in a player or 2 during my wildcard that im not planning on keeping but im confident that their price will rise by at least .2 before next gameweek, and transfer them out again (using wildcard), will i benefit from the 0.1 price rise or do prices remain fixed until your wildcard week is over??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 832 ✭✭✭Eddie Ere

Yes you gain the .1, as long as they rise by .2

No more games now till 11th Jan, with 10 days to get injured in between. Don't rush the wildcards!

    Hazard
    £9.8

Surely Fernandinho will find his way into a lot of wildcard teams. He's got 1.5% ownership, he looks as much a scoring threat from open play as Yaya and he's a nailed on starter in midfield in the most prolific team ever in the premier league. He started the year at 8m and now he's 7.3. I don't think i'll wildcard until later in the month as i'm happy with almost all of my current team but I may still get him in next week at a 4 point hit.

I got him two weeks ago and straight out in the wildcard. the team has 55 goals. He has three. Better options out there at that price

I've been very impressed with him lately, he's certainly getting into better positions than he was earlier in the season, those three goals have been in the last five games and he's been unlucky not to have a few more in that time. I'm very tempted by him anyway at that price.

Wildcard activated. I was deadset on bringing in Silva for Toure by the start of the next gameweek (while getting Toure's increases and Silva's decrease/s) but now I'm half looking at keeping Toure.
