    Flash of lightning over Galway

Didn't catch it! Wide awake now listening to the wind, very noisy in ballybrit (Galway. Power throughout tho.

Only just decked the link between the pressure drop and the horrible airplane ears I've had since lunchtime; has to be connected.

Getting worse(er!!) in Limerick City now.

We have a full-blown consistent pummelling of wind. Its not comfortable.

In spite of the fact that I've taken a drowsy cough mixture, I think there will be little sleep tonight...

No power outages or even flickers.

You can scoff all you want but its actually official advice.
You might be able to save it if its just starting.
Low pressure on the leeward side sucks the roof back down.

As others have said; what about the ceiling?

I think the centre of the low has just pushed in over west Mayo, here in Castlebar the wind has dropped off.

I'd say we'll get a blast of W to NW winds from around 5 or 6am as the low moves away.

3 knots shy of a full gale here. Yet frequency of high gust speeds not extraordinary. 61 kt high so far.

Pretty sure I'll be seeing some animals flying around the place soon enough in Cork. It's getting a whole lot more ferocious now. No rain as such where I am, but the wind is another beast! Have to say, these council houses are quite well built for this weather. The rest of the year is another story though.

    Just registed to chip in.

Some great info by folks here ( dont understand the 933 pressure etc as example ) but good info.

Over in friends Sth Dublin, scary stuff ! Its really whipping up proper now.

Its crazy to think that the storm aint hit yet but the way the weather is behaving already, unnerving.

A ceiling in a house isn't structural, its just aesthetic, you'd put a hole through it with a hammer with a light blow

Pressure still dropping here but slowing. When it starts to rise so will the wind!

Belmullet down another 1 to 947. Lights flickered.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,466 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

A lot of the esb faults in cork dont have an estimated time of restore or else they say 15:00 to 16:00 27/12/2013. Is that a sign that the ESB don't know or are they waiting till morning.

Lights just flickered in the kitchen.

Looks like power is gone in Bantry.

Lights flickering here in the south of Limerick City. The wind is very strong now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,494 ✭✭✭Hooter23

Still very vicious here in Galway city lights just flickered there and that never happens!

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,095 ✭✭✭LadyMayBelle

Various Galway Facebook/twitter accounts are reporting flooding in Salthill carpark across from the Burren Mount. And flooding towards Kelleher's garage. No links as all off twitter and my phone is rubbish. I imagine it's where the road had been closed off but can't see any traffic comes holding up in this weather!
You'd be a fool to drive that way tonight.

Still nice and sheltered here in Aughrim Co. Wicklow, I suggest it as an evacuation destination.
