Plenty of my leading FTSE 100 etc stocks have been taking a hammering in recent weeks. Apart from an odd few exceptions, much of my picks have in recent weeks seen significant erosion of the 2014 YTD gains.

Some stocks now offer a new opportunity to buy in at lower SPs.

I think markets are hard to call at the minute. There's a fair few reasons to be cautious about investing in stocks anywhere for now. The Ukraine situation, China slowdown, QE ending in US, European bank stress tests. Next couple of week are big for Q1reporting so I'd be inclined to sit on my hands and see how thing settle after that at least.

Bought a small amount of Google shares on the German exchange, for earnings report on Wednesday, given the pull back in their SP.
Was lucky before there, had bought some on the NASDAQ at 1065, sold at 1206, and very lucky given the share price is not much different now from when I had bought them originally.

I have found it very easy to lose money at the moment, buy what you think is the bottom and then one finds out it was just the ledge of the next step down.

SKG price fall to 15.88.. Any idea why so low? is it a good time to buy or wait?

Totally over sold. Dropped this week because of over supply fears due to extra capacity possibly coming on stream in Europe in 2016. Definite fear about a European economic recovery priced in now. Great company, well run, nice dividend, very manageable debt, profitable. Not that you can always believe brokers but I doubt many would value it at less than €20 a share. Q2 results ant the end of july and I don't think they will disappoint.

Buy or wait? Well its your cash so all I can say is spend a bit of time researching this one and see if its worth a few euro.

I sold yesterday for a 216% profit, nice week...

Truth is I do be on stocktwits and I saw a guy mention it, then that day it rose from the mid 0.80's and I decided better join in the party as it was rising fast, then it has a quiet enough couple of days before it went mental. made a nice 5 figure profit but it was by luck really.
    Some good guys on stocktwits.

ECTE is awaiting CE approval in Europe is one I have money in, should happen anyday.
For a 50/50 gamble I have a small stake in MNKD. It is a high risk gamble so beware.
Then I took a stake in Vringo, it should have a great year, with all the money it should make from patent infringments by Google, ZTE and others, Microsoft already settled a case with them.
Potential of billions in money owed from patent infringements with rumours ZTE might just buy them as they owe potentially a lot of money, $1.5 billion plus.

They are my plays, I like a bit of risk.

anytime ive bought penny stocks , ive been stung by the enormous spread and the huge commission rates on trades , only penny stock ive ever made money on is patagonia gold on the london exchange but that was two years ago , its worth almost nothing today

Hi, would anyone know what exactly this means..
"Smurfit Kappa is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed a new five year trade receivables securitisation programme of up to €240 million maturing in June 2019, utilising the Group’s receivables in France , the United Kingdom and Germany.

The new programme will be used to refinance a similar facility which matures in 2015. The programme complements the Group’s existing €175 million securitisation facility."

Is this a positive or negative news for shareholders?

from the bit you posted there it looks like a debt roll over. Skg have their borrowing well under control and this is just part of managing that. Small positive as it just reaffirms its financial position.

Skg is generating a nice free cash flow. It will be interesting to see what they do with it. M & A or return to shareholders.

smurfit kappa has a forward PE of a little below 10 and a ( 5 yr expected ) PEG of a mere .72

    its very good value

one share which i would avoid right now is paddy power , all the bookies have had an awful year due to the threat of a goverment imposed levy by the uk goverment , paddy power delivered very poor results two days ago although it sees a better second half of 2014

it was very over valued for eighteen months and is still twice as expensive as the likes of smurfit kappa , will likely drop to 40 euro before resuming any kind of climb , if you want an expensive share , buy ryanair , at least its growing very well

    Mediatek Inc. (2454.TW)-Taiwan

A mature microchip maker who have over the last 18 months taken a huge piece of the Chinese phone market with their low to mid priced CPUs. Just after releasing a 2 ghz 8 core chip which is now shipping.
They have developed a great business model whereby they sell the phone CPU and motherboard to other Cellphone manufacturers who tailor them (or kit them out) to their own spec. So basically you end up with a huge number of manufacturers installing the Mediatek chips in their phones.
The rate of growth of their market share has really accelerated over the last 5 months , the benefits of which will not be seen until July 2014 dividend which I suspect is going to be very good.
Also with Intel failing to make inroads into the cellphone CPU market with their Atom processors they are soon to go after a chip maker like this, if only to use up the spare cash and spare Manufacturing capability that Intel have.
The Taiwan dollar has lost some ground to the Euro over the last year and with the Euro starting to weaken it should recover again before the end of 2014

    Good spot Cuban.
I threw a few quid at this earlier this year now its doing nicely thanks!!
Up $100 to $500 a share now, got $15/share dividend and it looks like the growth is going to continue.
New 64bit 8 core SoC chip released with LTE
Just release a 2k display smart phone
Gained serious round on its main rival qualcomm
Started selling to the massive smartphone crazy Indian market
Rumors that Intel is now circling...........

Any decent online share platforms you'd recommend? Something cheaper than Davy but ... reliable

    Thanks, people.

I trade in my Daddy's account. Considering €32 transaction charges, and the convenience of not having to pay annual fees, I'd just leave it that way for now

Anybody any thoughts on Ormonde mining ? Possibly on the verge of breaking out when they get a mining permit in Spain.

Apparently they are on the cusp of a breakthrough..... awaiting a final permission for a mining permit in Spain.

However the final word was supposed to be out a few weeks ago... yet no word yet.

It is possible that this stock will go 'Nova'.... .but then that has been the expectation for the last few years.

    Patience is a virtue!!

Yea I've heard about the permission thing before, but thought that was just a formality, as they got a permit already?

Stupid Question, what you mean go Nova?

Ehhh no AFAIK the final permit has not been issued, but it is expected imminently.

Nova is just a personal term of mine, ie supernova, when a star explodes, which is what a lot of people are hoping for with Ormonde share price soon.

Then it might be subject to a take over nxt year, who knows?

Should be a interesting 12 months!

ha, there was me googling Nova for about 20 mins before asking.
Yea I'm read up on it before, at the moment it's just a plot of land with no planning permission so to speak, but getting that permit could see the share price rise fast, seen someone people talking mid teens/20 cent a share by end of 2015.
