Anyone who had BF4 on the PS3 - According to Battelog you've unlocked nothing and stats are zero. Your soldiers stats are defaulting to your PS3 soldiers.

    N. Canals TDM... great that they considered what so many people wanted, I just wish those same people wanted somethign else!

For BF5 i'd be concerned about the DLC and the trend emerging since BF4; Hardline has 4 map packs and some nonsense perks which never really happened and if they did I wouldn't care anyway... that is 20% less in map and if you take into account map size it really is around 50% less, such is the small scale of the Hardline maps. Less guns and vehicles too and I think Premium for Hardline (irrespective of the game) was probably less than 50% of BF4's equivalent. [not to mention the night maps, CMP and Dragon Valley]

For Star Wars it seems that only 4 maps packs are again available for the price but the kicker here is that one "DLC" is available from the start. Essentially they have help back maps from the base game and allocated them to the season pass. To me that means the real number of map packs is 3.

Another kicker here is that it is said that the maps wont cater for the larger game modes meaning Walker Assault is only available on one map per planet... this means 75% of the maps are non-playable for this game mode. So not only are we getting less DLC we are getting smaller maps and less content.

It kinda sucks; €110 for a game is a fair amount and while BF4 has been great value I dont think i'd pay it for a game I liked (i.e Hardline and maybe Battlefront) so you are there on the periphery of game you paid €60/€70 for merely because you think a further €50 is simply ridiculous. Haters will say "well dont buy it then" but that really isnt the point... What next is the point :(

Even though i have enjoyed BF4 i don't think €110 is fair value, i've been underwhelmed by the amount released for premium members. The battlepacks, the majority anyway, are a joke with what you get out of them. The DLC maps are OK, i can count maybe 3 or 4 out of the entire amount as fun to play imho. The remainder for me aren't anything special and the entire Naval Strike DLC just didn't click and i don't enjoy playing them.
For the upcoming games i'm going to buy the basic game, whether its Battlefront or the next Battlefield installment, and only after i know that there are no initial connection problems on the day of release or the days after. To think that for new games gamers are asked to pay pretty much a quarter of the amount of a gaming console on one AAA game to me is not fair at all. And these "microtransactions" that seem to be appearing more and more in every single game, no matter what Developer/Publisher it is now, is frustrating as hell.

Technically all DLC/Map packs are held back from the consumer. Lazlow Jones the producer for GTA said back in early 2008 that before GTA IV was even released that the Episodes from Liberty City content (Lost and Damned - The Ballad of Gay Tony) was already in post-production and they wouldn't be released for almost 2 and a half years. He has said that numerous companies operate under this system.

And if you're referring to the Battle of Jakku pack being released a couple of weeks after Battlefront release then according to twitter that's not the case. This is DLC but it's not one of the four expansions to be released. This is free content to sync up the release of The Force Awakens 2 weeks later.

Now EA have been known to alter release details but as I said according to twitter this will not be one of the Expansion packs. So if you really want to bust down to numbers then there will be four expansion packs and 1 map pack (that we know of at the moment)
Another kicker here is that it is said that the maps wont cater for the larger game modes meaning Walker Assault is only available on one map per planet... this means 75% of the maps are non-playable for this game mode. So not only are we getting less DLC we are getting smaller maps and less content.

There's 9 multiplayer modes available in Battlefront with 3 of those supporting 40 players.

There's 12 maps going to be released at Launch which in relation to your "75% of the maps are non-playable for this game mode" that's 9 unplayable maps for a single game mode which isn't terrible for the sheer size and how "switched on" you have to be to gain a win.

Also Walker Assault isn't the mode with the largest maps according to the guide for Battlefront, Supremacy game-mode has the largest maps.
On this point I'll more than agree. When I bought Battlefield 4 I ended up with a total cost of €130. The point could be made that they are releasing free content to keep people interested but (to add to what Keith said) that doesn't cater to the extra money I spent only to end up receiving weapons that the stats keep getting changed or a knife that looks different to the rest. Season Passes are a common sight to see on games at the moment there is a lot of the PS Store. Season Pass can be good in a way if you know what you're getting but you're also throwing blind faith into a company that can be unpredictable in the worst way possible.

    2Gph8tr.jpg

As long as they don't pull a Ubisoft move and release a DLC pack later on and state "This pack will not be covered by the season pass". Then we have a general idea what to expect.

In any case we won't really know until the game releases. The game could be a total flop or it could be a massive success due to the overall performance.

I didn't expect much from the Bad Company 1 and 2 betas but those betas closed with me being excited for those games.

I had mixed feelings about the Battlefield 3 and 4 beta.

I had high hopes for the Rainbow Six Siege beta and ended up being disappointed with the quality and quantity content.

I had little to no hope for the Total War beta and I got what I expected.

I had fun playing the Battlefront beta and I'm excited for the release. If anything the cycle is repeating itself.

    Oh fu©k you DICE............

Free Phantom Bow for everyone......cos I really enjoyed grinding out the Assignments and that sense of accomplishment.....expect the servers to be full of Bows for the next few days :(

Make sure you use the Defensive perk for a few days to dealt pass them off

Seriously though, i know the amount of time it took for you guys to do all the different aspects of this to get the bow. If you put in the effort and time you got it. That's how it always should be. In any game. I think its pretty sh!tty of DICE to do this now, especially with the poison tip attachment. They're making a joke of anyone who put in the effort, and time, to play and unlock anything in BF4 by doing this imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 984 ✭✭✭XtraFalcon

The bow is supposed to be the reward for rising through the ranks of the Phantom Programme and now they're are giving them away to anyone and everyone.

Kinda defeats the whole purpose of the thing. So we're gonna see Bow only servers in the next couple of days?

The Assignments themselves are handy enough, you'll complete most of them by just playing the game anyway. You might have to suffer with jets or focus on one aspect in particular for a little while, but overall they're not difficult.
Finding the boxes on the other hand was a nightmare. I literally spent about 6 hours looking around, destroyed my SPM and my Skill Rating fell below 90!! :pac:. I feel really bad for the guys that solved the puzzles using algebraic quotations and obscure literature references. Those guys deserve a medal, never mind a crappy bow..........mine will forever be in the horrible snake skin camo though, just to prove a point, ha

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 460 ✭✭keithc83

.... You might have to suffer with jets....

Yeah this is what really killed me looking at the parts you required to unlock the bow, even after practicing on the range many many times my flying skills leave a lot, and i mean A LOT, to be desired! :pac:

To do this now, like you said, after all the work put in by different players with equations, finding easter eggs, etc.....i'm still in shock tbh!

I use all weapons so love to have had the bow but after completing the assignments I found I couldn't get it because I had to search a few poxy maps for a dogtag and then team up to gain access.

That to me is more infuriating that releasing the bow now to everyone.

That said; they should let those have claimed it the 'right' way have a silver model maybe.

In general though I dislike promoting tasks like that in the game... i don't see why they can't reward players for maybe having 10 mastery dogtags or 200 arms in rush, 500 flags captured and make the tasks more game orientated and not as they did for the bow or that one where you have to land on the highest tower in Caspian Border. Geez

But that is the point. For anyone that took the time to search the maps, and were able to find those tags, deserved to get the bow. I don't think they should ever have released it to everyone after the amount of effort needed to unlock it. And even at that the bow is a heap of crap, its so underpowered against all the other weapons in the game, it was not even worth all the work to unlock in the first place!

Id so love so many of his ideas to be adopted. I dont agree with all but the new class system is a must... i'd love to see that.

I see nothing wrong with customisation options but I find that I dont even know what is on my guns anymore, especially when I use so many... I just change the optics for each one for variation and the only notable other choice is suppressor or non suppressor. Heavy barrell, angled grip, stubby grip, potato grip and so on... I'd rather star at the wall than flick through those screens.

I haven't opened a battlepack in months; couldn't care less.

I'd like the game to have lots of guns and small customisation so that the guns retain their identity. Whats the point of a new gun when all one wants to do is reduce recoil and spread anyway - isnt that what everyone aims to achieve ultimately. It eliminates variety; it may seem different with people using different guns but the reality is that so many within the same class can be made act the same.

Least with Hardline the recoil can be savage with some guns. I'd like to see that with BF5... hard hitting high skilled guns remain as is and the option of reducing recoil isn't really there. Use it as is or move to another gun (etc etc)

^ looks like they wont be changing SW Battlefront much.

Surprised how young the participants were.

I am not sure I will buy it, I still love BF4 and Hardline is handy once every 2 weeks. My youngest child is 2 at the end of November; would i get away with getting it for him as a present? Sweet :)

Myself and Damien played a few rounds of the new map.

I think it's quite good has a nice mix of close quarter battles and the distance between each base is ideal for infantry and vehicles alike.

I would like an extra tank or two as the vehicles are a tad bit limited but other than that I think it mixes well with the latest "additions" to the game.

We also met a fairly nice lad called Dash, very friendly - Invited him to the chat and he PTFO'ed the hell out of everything unfortunately I got banned right before the end of the match after going 40 - 14

I like the new map, I thought it would be better though. The amount of detail is incredible and a real success. However I just think it is maybe 25% too small and the focus on C is a little annoying somewhat.

I played it on Rush and had a great time.

I actually played CTF last night too and it was brilliant, won 3-2 twice with the final score in the last 30 seconds I think. Map really works for CFT, I have a tendency to prefer infantry only CTF for some reason.
