Great going. Really good to see the hard work and progress you are making. Need more logs like this to balance out the sh1te I am throwing up!

    Tnx DR,

Nearly choked on my club sandwich (on healthy brown) when you used the words "athlete" & "TbL" in the same sentence on your log. I'm just a plodder that has an expert helping me. You lads are cycles and cycles ahead and it will come good for you. Some of the session you've been doing were savage. I've decided not to over think things anymore and, a. just follow instruction, and, b. try to enjoy it.

I'm happy with where I'm at right now but with this running madness there's always room for improvement :)

Onwards and upwards (at least till I'm back on here crying about my next crap session :) )

Plan today called for 22 miles easy.

Legs felt good after yesterday's MP session and I thought I might stick some faster miles in at the end of today's run but I was told to just take it handy, that today was just about "time on feet". As it transpired I wouldn't have been up to it in any case. Today was a bit of a struggle and I never really got going. I didn't get any of the buzz I got from yesterday's session and had to really tough it out in places. I used to love these slow plodding sessions but god today was a mental battle. Didn't take any fluids or gels but had to use my €2 emergency coin for a bottle of lukozade towards the end as I felt I was getting a bit dehydrated.

The last two miles had plenty of inclines that drained the legs and I was delighted when I was done. Can't say I enjoyed that session at all but they are the ones that get you battle ready. Had a Epsom salt bath immediately after finishing and the legs feel a good bit better.

    22 miles @ 8.02

that's some savage running over 2 days.
i agree with you regards the city running, we are spoiled in the country, although i would like to have access to Phoenix park.

22 miles on one's own is no joke. i run solo so know that.

interested in feedback on how been coached is working out, i'm strongly considering it next year. can it work remotely?

    Hey JFH,

Although only a plodder having a coach is the best think I did. I don't know much about running, just left, right and repeat, so it was important that I got someone who I felt that I could trust and also have some face to face time. I now know that he held me back (ie reigned me in) when it was needed and this is something that is very important and shouldn't be overlooked. I tended to get over ambitious and tried to do too much to soon.

Generic plans weren't for me, I even spent money on the McMillian online running plan, but felt that this was a bit too happy clappy for me.

It's mainly done remotely with mails, texts and some calls, but I'm trying to get some sessions done with him every second week in the run up to Amsterdam.

Couldn't recommend it highly enough and whatever time I do in Amsterdam, I'm going to try for a 2.55 and 1.22 (HM) over the next 12 months, something that I would have considered completely beyond me only a couple of months ago.

Best of luck with the injury.

Plan called for the nurseing home special, the 3 mile recovery run.

legs were stiff and heavy from the weekends sessions and I was wrecked after work.

I actually felt like I was barely moving, the Amoeba shuffle, chest and belly out and the arse and legs subsumed back into the core!

Didn't bother with the watch but got 3 very slow miles in.

Have a session tomorrow so it'll be interesting to see how the body holds up.

Today the plan called for a session, as I was in Dublin for work anyway I arranged to run this with Coach.

I have a loan car for the next day or two, a bright orange mini. I look like a fat frog in a small jam jar, but on the plus side it wouldn't take long for Coach to find me in the car park!

We met in the Papal Cross car park, and the session was to be a 8 or 10 mile wave tempo depending on how I was feeling. The legs were a little stiff and heavy and the session was a day earlier than usual this week.

We started off with a mile warm up and I was as usual very sluggish and slow to get going, but once the legs fired up I felt good and was feeling stronger as the miles went by. Decided at mile eight to continue as at that stage I was rearing to go.

The last mile of the wave was my geriaiatic Roger Bannister moment, I broke the 6 minute mile for the first time. I've never run a sub 6 min mile in 8/9 years of racing or training :) Was focked at the end of it but recovered quickly and did about a mile cool down. I feel like everything is coming together just at the right time, I'm nailing sessions and recovering quickly. I don't think I've ever been as fit or as strong as I am now. Managed to get a rub (in between all the celebrity clients).

    Feeling good!

Now now Yaboya, put away that big spoon and stop stirring, he's a young lad with sub 3 target nailed to the mast for a while. Anyway is there not a golf forum or something to occupy you during the taper wind down :)

    Ha ha Gavlor, tnx.

It's amazing the difference a bit of proper structure brings. Hoping the effort translates to a decent time on race day.

If the auld body holds it together, I'll have a good lash at a 2.55 attempt in 2015.

At my age unless Viagra is on the banned list I'll be sound :)

    Tnx AMK,

The diets going better but not as good as it should be. I need to make a big effort over the last 4 weeks to drop a few more pounds. It's something I find very hard to manage as I lose focus quickly. The jungle drums are telling me that you're looking very lean!

It's actually very easy to gain during the taper period as you are used to taking in x amount of calories but not burning as many. It's a tuff battle as you don't want to loose muscle also

Yeah, I wouldn't aim or try to lose weight on the taper. If anything, you probably should naturally gain a bit as mentioned.

Plan today called for 4/6m easy am/pm.

Legs were tired this morning and I was instructed to dial it back to recovery and very easy pace and even ditch the second one if I wasn't feeling up to it.

Got the first session in early this morning around Portobello at 9.16 pace.

I spent a lot of time in the car today and after driving down from Dublin the legs had stiffened up and if anything they were tighter than this morning. The groin was also a little stiff. Got out of the car and hit the grass pitches around UCG, I had decided that I'd can the session if the legs didnt soften out pretty quickly. The miles were slow but managed to get 6 in at 9.01 pace.

A couple of more easy days to come and hopefully the legs will be as good as new.

    10 miles for the day.

Plan today called for 4/7 miles easy am/pm.

Was working in Galway city today and took a late lunch break and headed out in the glorious sunshine. The legs were in much better shape than yesterday although they were heavy rather than stiff. It was so warm I briefly considered going topless but the clean diet hasn't been in force for long enough to to inflict that on the general populance!

Got 7 miles in at 8.01 pace.

For a change I finished work early so there was only a couple of hours between the runs as I got another 4 miles in on grass albeit at a slower pace of 8.16.

City running and being in close proximity to other runners/pedestrians has forced me to learn a new life skill, the pretend cough while simultaneously farting :) Its not as easy as one might think and timing is everything!

    Total miles 11

Plan today called for 9 miles easy.

I'd a awful nights sleep last night and my head was melted all day.

Worked through lunch to try and leave earlier today.

Was making all sorts of excuses to not run but eventually got out over my local hilly route. No need for my recently acquired life skill around these parts :)

Turned at mile 4 as I was completely fed up but when I got to mile 7 I took a detour along a trail road to add the extra mile and finished up with 9 miles @ 8.03

    Glad it's done.

Plan today called for 5/7 miles easy am/pm.

Hit the grass pitches this morning in the glorious sunshine.

    Got 5 miles in @ 7.51

I've been fairly tired and lethargic for thevlast few days and was gonna can the pm session but I brought the kids out in relay format and got another 4 miles in at recovery pace.

Have a 20 miler tomorrow with 8 miles at PMP and I'm really not looking forward to it.

    9 miles for the day

    its been a long week!

Today the plan called for 20 miles with the last 8 at PMP. These types of sessions have caused me problems in the past and despite Murph telling me it'd all come come good I was apprehensive about it. Got this in early this morning, weather was perfect for running only issue was during the first mile a Jack Russell made a go for me, the fecker actually tried to bite me while it's owner watched from the garden and didn't say a word. When the mutt tried again I drew a kick on him a got a lucky hit on his gob, that stopped him in his tracks and drew shouts of indignation from the owner. Hope the focker has to eat his pedigree chum through a straw! Anyway spent the first 12 miles worrying about the last 8. It worked out ok, despite a tough mile 19 and I picked it up for the last mile. Hopefully its the trailer for the movie "Lassie gets lucky in Amsterdam" :)
