Not rock 'n' roll - debating the state of rock 'n' roll on a mainstream TV channel in prime time :D

As a very intelligent man once said on this not very serious issue....

Mate of mine went to see Tom Petty in Dublin last year. Said it was the best gig he was ever at. Sorry I missed it (although this isn't really knocking my socks off).

No particular place to go is one of my favourites.

Watching this Forever Young show again.

I think Skid made a valuable point about this show before, which was it makes no sense. It's just about rock stars that didn't die, so kept on being rock stars. Which isn't really a solid reason for a programme, to be fair.

Still, if The Who are getting royalties for every mention of "I hope I die before I get old", then at least someone's winning.

On ITV (UTV?) now, 'The Nation's Favourite 80's Number One'.

'House Of Fun' by Madness - to date, the only UK no.1 about buying er, 'protection' from the chemist!

Not a bad programme, better than ITV usually manage.

The 80s had some proper tunes.

Not like these days when most Pop singers sound like their hernia is bursting, mumble grumble.

Total Eclipse of The Heart is a stone cold classic and Bonnie did a fantastic job on it.

Here's a decent ITV Music Doc from a few years ago, the Stock Aiken Waterman story. I enjoyed it, respectful of the SAW years without being reverential

Country music is one of those things that you know you shouldn't like but goshdarnit some of those songs are mighty tuneful.

    TOTP 1980 strike TV on

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭Roanmore

Jonathan King on TOTP 1980? I thought he along with Jimmy Saville and DLT were cut from all the old TOTP?

It's weird, they seem to taken him off the banned list. He was featured on a new programme about Genesis a while back.

For some reason the nonce managed to get the BBC to apologise to him for removing him from TOTP repeats.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2050698/BBC-apologise-paedophile-Jonathan-King-deleting-Top-Pops.html
"We are sorry that Mr King's appearance was edited out of this particular programme. We accept that this should not have happened and we would like to apologise for any upset this caused.

"We can assure Mr King that there is no policy in place requiring any of his appearances, or those of any one else, to be removed from repeats we show on the channel.

"We can also assure Mr King that his performance will not be edited out of any future repeat of this particular episode of Top of the Pops."

Seems completely inconsistent with their policy on other people who have been convicted/accused of sexual crimes.

possibly the difference is that Saville and DLT were BBC employees, so they're retrospectively "firing" them. Does seem inconsistent though.

    Ha.

Ah well, sometimes my musical preferences are vaguely respectable
but every now and then they fall apart!
