Also the only live part to his show is his own performance, everything else is backing track.

Regardless of what you think of Kanye & his records; one guy onstage rapping to backing tracks might be OK in a room full of his own fans but it's not enough at a huge outdoor festival.

Lionel Richie ending with We are The World on BBC2

Bob Geldof says that more than once he attended Awards Ceremonies and Conferences where well meaning organisers got childrens choirs to sing that for him.

Bob did his best to smile while thinking "that's not my f***ing song!"

Weller doing too many new songs as usual ... and doing reworkings of his old stuff.

Come on Paul, just do all the hits the way we remember them!

Hello, after the dizzying business of last week, normal service has resumed. There is a new series about Rock n Roll America, it has probably been done many times before but sure it might be worth a look. Jerry Lee Lewis contributes - he once appeared as a panellist on RTE's music quiz 'The Lyrics Board'. Although I might have dreamt that ...

    Thursday

    7.30pm & 1am Top of The Pops 1980
Tommy Vance presents an edition originally broadcast on August 14, 1980. Featuring Ultravox, David Bowie, Mike Berry, Grace Jones, Village People, Sue Wilkinson, Legs & Co dancing to ELO, and Abba with the week's number one, The Winner Takes it All.

This episode also looks at the start of Elvis Presley's career in Memphis and examines the impact the film industry had on the rock movement. Contributors include Tom Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis and Don Everly

10pm Film: Rock Around The Clock

    11.30pm (BBC2) Best of Glastonbury
A two hour round-up of highlights from last weekend's Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts at Worthy Farm in Somerset, featuring memorable moments from many of the headline artists and a selection of bespoke acoustic performances

    Saturday** ta brian t !

4.10pm ITV (but not UTV Ireland - Boo) This is Lionel Richie
Thirty years ago, after a decade of hits as lead singer with the Commodores, Lionel Richie released his debut solo album, marking the beginning of a long and successful career that has bagged him several number ones and awards. In this one-off special the singer performs some of his biggest and best-loved hits, including Dancing on the Ceiling, Easy, Hello and Say You, Say Me, and is joined on stage for duets by chart star Pixie Lott and 2010 X Factor runner-up Rebecca Ferguson. The programme also features an interview from his home in Los Angeles, where he chats to Christine Bleakley about his life and career

10.40pm Arena: Amy Winehouse - The Day She Came to Dingle
The story of the singer-songwriter's acoustic performance on Irish TV show Other Voices, filmed at St James's Church in the remote south-western town of Dingle in 2006. Featuring interviews with some of the people she met on that day, including taxi driver Paddy Kennedy, her bass player Dale Davis and the Rev Mairt Hanley of the Other Voices church

11.40pm When Albums Ruled The World
Documentary exploring the heyday of LPs from the mid-1960s to the late 70s, as artists embraced the creative opportunities they offered for music and artwork. The programme also examines how the arrival of new formats heralded the end of the album's golden era. With contributions from Queen's Roger Taylor, Noel Gallagher, Mike Oldfield, the Doors' Ray Manzarek, Slash and singer-songwriter Grace Slick

1.10am Top of The Pops 1980
    As above

No, apparently it was all true http://www.rte.ie/tv50/essays/johnkeogh.html

“From the moment he arrived he wasn’t quite sure. He was on medication at that time and he could be a bit vague as to where he was or what he was doing. Eventually I got him at the piano but the problem was I couldn’t get him to understand the rules of the game. He purely thought he was there to provide music. He didn’t realise he was part of a quiz. This was when the fun started because every time a song would come up he’d say: ‘I think I know that song.’ And he’d start to play. I’d say: ‘No, it’s not our turn. It’s the other team’s turn.’

Mad times, that article is worth a read.

If you enjoyed The Who last week, Sky Arts has Quadropenia Live (from 2013) Saturday at 9pm followed by The Story of The Who. And more Who on Sunday at 9pm, a 1999 concert from Las Vegas. But no Lemmy this week. Boo.

Jerry Lee...the man who taught Willie Nelson everything he knows about being high in charge of firearms.
.....on De Lyrics Board. I remember being suitably stoned when that aired. So I obviously wasn't doing it right.

    Lemmy's favourite, Little Richard!

    Woooooooooooooooooo!

I heard a bit of Gene Simmons's Radio 2 show during the week on the Iplayer ... lovely stuff. Lots of good stories about his musical collaborations and heroes.

Although apparently he played that Garth Brooks chap ... them British kids are never going to get Garth, it's not in their genes, Gene.

One of Little Richard's early bands had the young, then unknown singer James Brown (the Godfather of Soul), a fourteen-year-old keyboardist named Billy Preston, and the famous and legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix.

Billy Preston must have thought performing with the Beatles was underwhelming after that.

As for AC/DC....DENIED! No way! Was out of the country Tues till this evening!

Had to give the ticket away, cos I'm an absolute douche who thought it was next week.

I had nearly come to terms with it, until this afternoon when my brother sent me the setlist. Ugh, I'm sick I missed it.

Yeah, it seems a bit too good to be true. I found this, although James Brown isn't mentioned.

Favourite Littler on the one side Richard fact
Has one leg three inches shorter than the other; would sometimes wake up from a night of partying, with one pant-leg cuff noticeably frayed from walking barefoot.

Its probably no accident that the best rock 'n roll degenerates were indeed the most degenerate - Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry!

Rock Around the Clock is mostly about contract negotiations so far.

This time last week Lemmy was on BBC Two and BBC Four at the same time :(

To be fair, I would have expected more rocking.

    Well, some rocking.
