I have been getting a countdown each episode to Tasha's death. Does everyone hate her as much as my OH?

Re Tasha, no she never bothered me at all. Overall though, her leaving the show probably was for the best.

Definitely for the best. Worf only becomes the legend he is once Tasha dies. She wasn't bad, but Worf is far more interesting.

I loved Worf in DS9, when O'Brien says Keiko is having another baby. A look of sheer terror from Worf, and he shouts "Now?!?".

Nothing scares a Klingon...except child birth :P

yeh its not good. haha.. I must finish off season 5, ive 4 eps left to watch. Its fallen by the way side since we started watching Stargate, on season 8 now rotating eps with season 1 of atlantis.

Season 5: The Perfect Mate - Turned it off half way through, I see what the episode was trying to explore but it's not handled well, pretty dire episode.

I, Borg. Great episode. Though it struck me last night watching it - Voyager is infamous for 'softening' the Borg over its time. TNG though, with I, Borg, is as guilty as anyone else for doing the same. An lost & lonely young man, given the name Hugh, that changes Picards outlook on the Borg for the better.

I loved the Borg episodes on Voyager. The Queen freaked me out when I was younger and now I just think she is a wagon! LOL

Season 5: The Inner Light - What a fantastic 43 minutes of Star Trek. Just brilliant, I can never fathom how so many people dislike that episode.

that's the flute one isn't it? it's one of the few ST eps you could say is genuinely great tv not just great for sci fi tv

Discalimer - never considered myself a true Trekker, and indeed prefer DS9 out of all the ST iterations even though it was probably the one that had least in common with Roddeberry's vision.

The last episode of the first season (The Neutral Zone) was clever in the way it contrasted our society today with what it has become in the time of TNG. I thought the Romulan appearance was a bit anti-climactic, though, as though they wanted to be more involved with it and then decided not to.

Yeah the Romulans do come across as an afterthought in that Neutral Zone episode.The focus is on the cryogenic survivors for the bulk of the episode then the Romulans just turn up at the end. I read that originally the story was going to be 2-parter but a writer's strike meant that they had to ditch the 2nd part.

One thing though that irks me about the story is how smug & preachy the Enterprise crew are towards the survivors. Riker refers to them as "there's not much to redeem them. Makes one wonder how our species survived the 21st century" - that dialog might be appropriate if they had defrosted Khan and a bunch of eugenics but he's talking about a stock broker, housewife & musician, hardly the worst examples of 20th century civilisation.

I think rather than come across as snide, the idea was maybe to highlight the stark differences in values that 24th century society had against 20th century society. A stockbroker, consumed with the desire & obsession to accumulate personal wealth (and also had a bit of a red carpet attitude too). A musician, who had suffered extensive organ damage due to the willful over-consumption of alcohol & cigarettes, who obviously valued these substances more than bettering himself, and ultimately, his life. I can't remember much about the woman, maybe her reaction to Worf (fainting) highlights how closed minded & different humans were in a society which wasn't that long ago?

I get that the writers were trying to comment on (then) present society but it was a common flaw for me in the early seasons of TNG when characters would discuss history they would act as if the 20th Century was THE WORST in human history.

The survivors were flawed but were they really awful examples of humanity that would justify Riker's comment? Maybe if they had been a bunch of warlike savages that escaped World War III otherwise it was just a line of ridiculous over reaction. The housewife fainting was nothing more than an example of the fact that she came from a society without any alien contact. She reacted in shock, not bigotry or close-minded.

Now to be fair I thought the discussions between Picard & the stock broker were nicely balanced as they both made valid points (and the broker himself contributed to resolving the confrontation with the Romulans).
