Much better from Ireland in the last ten minutes. Been putting all the pressure on Scotland in their 22 and they're conceding penalties rapidly.

But there's just no semblance of attacking competence outside of the lineout maul which is working well. Ireland win the initial contact in the carry, but after that it's side to side with no ability to create gaps in defence.

Commentary team are realy putting the foot in on the teams not realy appropriately !

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭thamus doku

Ireland are unlucky and could be ahead if they had a 10 and a hooker who play the basics. Jones makes too many mistakes at lineout for this level and worse she is some woman for the white line fever, some glory hunter.

O’Brien cannot pass or kick or even tackle properly.

Quicker both are replaced we might have a chance here.

They’re certainly going overboard on it, wouldn’t happen with the men’s team.

    Lineouts nowhere near straight

Irelands biggest issue is from 10 to 15. . They are so poor. We actually have good forwards and a good 9.
all this talk about breen and Higgins and parsons - they are so limited. That’s where the Irish coach has to focus all his attention on.

This is the most questionable referee I have see in a long time. N

Repeated infringements by Scotland without any warning from Referee.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,842 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Disgraceful. They are overdue a yellow by 2 or 4 infringements at this stage.

And in fairness to Sam Monaghan she is appealing up to the limit of decorum.

Ireland robbed in that scrum - should have been their put in the first place, and then should have been a penalty for them, not Scotland.

Stunned there wasn't a yellow for the last penalty in the Scotland 22 as well - so many repeated infringements.

    That's exceptionally harsh imo.

Edit: didn't matter in the end, they closed it out. Fair play...

    Fantastic result!!!

The ref was very very very poor.... For both sides

Great to see. That meant a lot to them. Hopefully they can push on from this

Top drawer result from a right ol scrap of a game.

great win and they are qualified for the World Cup but the real result is wxv1 , the more games against the best the better. Eventually you will beat them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,842 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Exactly. And in revenue, sponsorship, exposure, profile etc.

Its a tribute to this group under Bemand and Gill McDarby that they have pulled back from the precipice to be looking at top table representation again in WXV1 in Canada this September. Because it wasn't December '21 that was a low point, it bounced along the bottom right through to last years 6N, where we were 0/5 and things looked very bleak.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭Brian017

I'm confused I thought the WXV was a promotion/relegation thing. We won WXV3 last time so why are we qualified for WXV1 now instead of 2?

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,734 ✭✭✭✭Inquitus

The top 3 in the 6N make up the European half of WXV1

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,842 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

We qualified for WXV2 as a result of winning 3, but 6N placings also contribute to rankings and bumped us up to 1.

Arguably its not what we need so soon, but if they're now going to a WC 11 months afterward, its a steep learning curve one way or the other.

It isn't as simple as straight promotion and relegation from each wx tournament. Qualification based on performances and placings in 6 nations and Pacific 4 tournaments. This will change after 2026.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭Brian017

    Thanks guys.

They must be relieved to have qualified for the WC after missing out on the last one. A big 18 months ahead for them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,842 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

Certainly takes the gnawing pressure off. The priority now will of course be Olympic 7s for players like Parsons and Higgins, but WXV1 just 8 weeks later will keep momentum going for the Women's game in general, when game time was always such a problem for Ireland

  • Registered Users Posts: 51 ✭✭thamus doku

After the olympics it’s Time for the 7s to come second to 15s. From there on the 15s should have first choice on all players.
It’s an exciting time for the management and the players as overall it was a good tournament.

all it would take for Ireland to close the gap on France and England is playing them more and finding an out half and 12 of high standard, you put the English 10 and 12 into the Irish team and we would not far off France.
it’s won’t take much to get up to France, I honestly believe that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 209 ✭✭Fotish

Well, if we can surpass France , we will be number two in the World, not a bad place to be !

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭kita99

I think (and hope), after Olympic, maybe Stacey Flood at10, Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe at 14, and Lucy Mulhall at 15 all coming back from 7's duty to 15th. But the problems of Ireland are sizes of 2 and 3. Current 2 and 3 are too small especially THP. IRFU must work to invest to some big -size players like Roisin Maher (Connacht, 19years old) who maybe endure with super-hard training as same as professional boxer like Katie Taylor. In a long term, indeed Ireland need tall and powerfull LOs.

Neve jones is actually bigger than the great french hooker mignot (their current head coach) and cliodhna moloney is absolutely more then big enough. Jones certainly does not lack in the physical stakes at all and it's a strong carrier in heavy traffic. I don't see an issue at hooker to be honest. Sarah Delaney is coming through as third option there as well as a good young prospect.

Tight head is an issue when you see djougang having to move across the front row at times. That being said, djougang is actually smaller than both our options throughout this campaign, Haney and Mc grath are listed as being bigger, plus Megan Collis as another option is physically huge (1.7m and 116kg)

We have the physical options, just need to develop them as better rugby players.

  • Registered Users Posts: 174 ✭✭kita99

Did you watch the celtic challenge league? Corris (played at 3 in Clover team) had big -size , but could not push at the scrum time, and at the time Clover's chance in the opponent (Edinburugh), She didn't attend the atack. I think that maybe she has too good and gentle character for rugby. In that game, colleague LTH O'Dowd(current Ireland) seemed angry to her sluggish play. IRFU and Bemand must watch and seek good players not only east but also south and west. And I think that Ireland HBs (Reilly and Flood) will reach the top level of the world in a few years.

Not bad for a newbie, Aoife Wafer in line for a player of the tournament award.
