Does anybody know of any good methods to backup your addons and their settings. I use Genesis and have all my Favourites set up and a fair few other addons too.
If I update my firmware everything will be set back to defaults I presume. It's a pain in the ass to set all that stuff up again from scratch.

You need to copy the kodi folder. This is for android. Havent tried on windows etc

    copy the folder org.xbmc.kodi

    install new version of Kodi

Then replace the folder org.xbmc.kodi with your old version. Kodi will be upgraded and you have have all of your settings and favorites etc saved

I think someone on here gave me that advice, it is great because I spend ages doing my skins and every time I updated kodi I had to start from start because XBMC back up would not save skin or favorites. With the above method you can keep everything:D

Yes copying the folder works and it works across various platforms. I mean you can configure everything on your laptop then copy the folders from there to your android device. I usually do all my setting and changes on laptop, much easier to do then fiddling around with airmouose.

This methods also works fine and probably a bit easier:

Anyone tried this yet? How does it compares with Yatse?

It's fine. Yatse has a couple of killer features that Kore doesn't have
    e.g.
Play a video or URL from your phone to your Kodi box.
or play a video on your Kodi box on your phone.

Apart from that it's pretty much the same as Yatse.

If you're on mobile, back on page 315, Allyall has a link for a Tronsmart MXIII with a discount code that reduces it by $20.

Start reading now is my best advice.

Head to YouTube, learn how to install the repositories needed plus installing add one from them.
Just work off Confluence (default skin) till you get more comfortable with Kodi.

For Minix X8 users , plenty of Firmware updates (which will optimize your Minix)
    FW 4 released
    FW 5 imminent

    http://www.minixforum.com/forums/official-firmware-releases.68/

Has anyone tried FW4 yet? How is it working out? Worth updating or is there still bugs to be ironed out with it?

Are you having issues with yours ? Or do you just want to update to be trendy ? ;)

ha ha ha.....yeah, I want to be in with all the cool kids.... :P

No, I'm still on the last OTA update (3, was it?) and it works fine apart from Genesis which can give me a lot of issues at times (buffering, cache full even though I just emptied it, not playing streams etc.), especially on the HD streams. I'd hope that FW4 might help with this.

If the new FW5 is out soon, will I need to install FW4 first in order to get that or can I just skip ahead to FW5?

^^ It will be an incremental update, you will have to go to 4 then 5.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,780 ✭✭✭BandMember

Thanks for that. So, back to my original question then! lol Has anyone installed it and how are they finding it? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

Its all mostly bug fixes. Check the change log in the Minix thread to see if you want any of it.

I usually like to update anything / everything to the latest version if I know it exists :)

Dont think it will wipe your apps / data so I think safe to update.

Cool. I'll have a go at installing it tomorrow so. I know how to blame if it all goes pear shaped! :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,357 ✭✭✭coldfire1x

    :)

Quite easy to take backup of everything. Copy Kodi folders, open ES File explorer -> Apps -> Backup (to take backup of all the apps)

Plug in a USB key and copy everything, just to be sure. You will grand after that.

Tronsmart MXIII is €46 on Geekbuying with code MXIII20

Whether or not the lifetime warranty and support is true, is anyones guess.. Time will tell. But the fact that they are even offering it, is enticing..

EDIT - That code may apply to all MXIII on GeekBuying, I haven't checked. No doubt it will apply to all Tronsmart, as they are the main distributors for them.

Ordered one of these on the 29/04, I paid for Express 3-5 day delivery and it is still awaiting shipment, I've been in contact with them numerous times and there anything but helpful.

    **DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM**

Chinese sellers tend to have a different way of doing things, your 3-5 days is 'delivery time' which is from when DHL receive the parcel. Their order processing time comes before that and can often be longer than stated on their website.

I have a phone on the way with DHL, I have the tracking number but DHL have not gotten the package yet and probably won't get it for another week, but once they do get it, it will be with me in 2 days.

im on 2a, and found it a huge improvement over fw1

waiting for fw 5 next week. I think it will be FOTA, but on the forum they say a full wipe is preferred

They say a full wipe for each update to be honest. That is them covering there backs if anything happens

Since the FOTA option to update I have not done a full wipe....system is working grand. As mentioned above the main thing to get running is XBMC for Minix and keep that up to date. The firmware seems pretty stable at the moment if you are just using it for standard use.

Not to say I will probably do a full wipe and update in next few weeks. Just because I need to build XBMC for Minix again and might as well start off fresh, I can easily back up Kodi build using method I mentioned a few posts back
