The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in Murphy is safe.

Given the weather, have decided not to travel. My adult and a juvenile ticket are free to anyone who wants.

No Ryan McHugh and Murphy not travelling suggests we won't be going too hard today.

With 6 points in the bag and two home games to come, Jim McGuinness is probably more worried about making a league final than relegation. .

I wonder if Murphy not travelling is due to his picking up a knock in training or with Gallen`s form last weekend with Murphy sitting in the sub and being taken off shortly after Murphy coming on. His free taking was poor considering it was his home club pitch

Whatever about the conditions, a very poor performance in Salthill. Yes, the wind and new rules probably suited Galway more than us, but that's the way. Why was it only DOB who seemed to be willing/able to take on 2 pt attempts in the 2nd half? Did the breeze die down that much?

Our lack of goals is becoming a concern. Ourselves, Sligo and Leitrim the only counties not to raise a green flag in this league and we didn't score many last year either.

Physically Galway had too much for us. I don't know if that changes much with having more of our first 15 available.

Who knows how they approached this. And, it's not the end of the world by a long way. The way Derry are going the game is there to be won but very hard to know how either side will approach. Derry surely have to get something from it if they are to stay up.

To stay up Derry most likely would need a win next weekend. The wind did appear to die down a bit in the second half. Walsh sent over two frees into the wind that had a bit to spare.

Physically Galway had the edge on us, particularily first half when we looked a bit light in midfield. Thompson and Ban Gallager coming on helped in that area. I wouldn`t be over critical of players not going for two pointers. The wind in Salthill best of days is a lottery, but two shot from S O`Donnell and one from Gallen from the right wing, where all three were wide to the same degree, were a bit disheartening. There were a few times as well where their looked to be one pointers on that weren`t taken that would have kept the scoreboard ticking over. Particularily from Gallen who looked a player very short on confidence yesterday.

Not that I would be overly worried about the result. On the day we did not deserve to win, but if Ban Gallagher hit the net it would have made for an interesting finish, as would sorting out the rules on players sent off or black carded. We played a full half with 15 v 14, and for two 10 minute periods when it was 15 v13 where we had to have 3 players back against only one or two of theirs having to stay in our half. It goes completely against the grain of these new rules discouraging the blanket defence.

EBG is poor in front of goals based on my memory. It's a pity, as his pace often means he's in a good position to shoot.

Gallen's form is a concern. Yes, he's being well marked. He's missing chances he should be taking.

These games are interesting in that you have a chance to see one or two players who would not normally start in the big games. The league is just the league. Going forward there are major concerns over our lack of physicality and also our inability to get goals. We will need Langan and McGee back for the championship. Last year was a big opportunity given the draw we got and Dublin and Kerry out of the way. McGuinness knew that. How do we get the team peaking in June/July?

Galway are a serious physical outfit but like ourselves they don't score many goals. I think this will be their undoing again this year.

That was quite a game. Derry's efficeincy and our lack of same meant defeat looked likey until very late in the day.

What a difference Murphy made. Just having him available to make that kind of impact could be invaluable.

Our shooting is a huge concern now. It was great to get the goal, because we had missed so many chances and the longer it went on, the more of an issue it was going to be.

Still, considering Mogan, McGee, Langan and McBrearty weren't available, it's a good result and means we are now safe in Division 1 and can approach the last 2 games any way we like.

There's a long way to go yet this year I hope. Still a few things that bother me, but our pace and workrate late on today were very encouraging. Hopefully the injuries around the middle clear up and Gallen gets back into form but so far, so good.

That was a very flat performance yesterday. For nearly an hour there was no intensity in our performance. We played poorly yet should still have been out of sight long before the hour mark. We were very wasteful in front of goal and some players will not be looking forward to the review. The one thing that was pleasing was that we took the game by the scruff of the neck when it was there to be won. We played with pace and aggression in the last ten minutes and looked a different team.
I’m sure Jim will be careful not to win another league game.

To me they look like a team that had a tough week of training, but it was most likely down to yesterday being their 5th. game in 5 weeks due to how energy sapping games under these new rules are.

I`ve a feeling, from what we saw yesterday, that Jim`s concentration will be on shooting practice rather than anything to do with the last two league games.

More good news for the county with Karl Lacey managing the county u16 team.

Great to hear. It was shamefull the way he was treated by the county board over the academy where, as far as I could see and from the support he got from the rest of the coaching staff and parents, he was doing an excellent job on a shoe-string budget.

Any word on McGee and Langan?

Looking at the team named, we are playing not to win.

Seems like mc Guinness is downing tools this weekend and might do similar next weekend to avoid league final which is understandable but shows how flawed gaa calendar is. The 10 starters he has dropped from the last day, majority them aren't even on the bench.

Watching the Dublin v Galway game tonight Galway weren`t busting a gut to make the league final either. First hint of even a twinge for any of his nailed on championship starter and Joyce took them off.

Their opener is against New York in New York the same day we will be playing Derry. If we lose toworrow and the media accuse us of throwing the game, it will be interesting to see if they do the same with Galway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭mjp

Don't know bout that. Joyce has said all year that they want silverware and that this team need to win something in croke park. He said he took off finnerty and Walsh as they had missed 2-10 between them. If he didn't want to win it he wouldn't have risked comer 10 mins into 2nd half and wouldn't have started with full strength side.

Well it is in Letterkenny so the county board obviously expected this!

When will the Championship match tickets for Derry v Donegal go on sale? Or have I missed the boat.

Next week I would imagine. Almost certainly through the clubs only.

Malachy Clerkin pretty much nails it in his revoe win the Irish Times today - other than Gallen seeming a bit subdued, it was a good league for Donegal.

Getting Conor O'Donnell back and playing well has been a huge boost. Aaron Doherty appearing last weekend was good to see as well and we also got OMcFF back. Nio sign of McGee yet, which is a concern, I'm just not buying the love fo Hughie. I am also not sure I want to see as much of E McHugh in the Championship as we have in the League.

So, Derry, who have so much long grass growing around them they may as well be in the jungle. Plus, lots of injuries. I sincerely hope, and I don't believe, we will take them for granted. I doubt it will be as mad as last year's game in Celtic Park, hoping for a low key win and no injuries.
