    Game off tomorrow.

    Strange is it?

    Kildare v Fermanagh on

    Galway v Armagh on

Naomh Pádraig going to Croke Park

Was it safety of players getting to a pick up point in DL?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

And I see Armagh ladies are playing in Tralee at the moment.

Strange one alright, Drove to Killarney earlier (albeit from Tipp),

with no issues. Must be bad further up!

Disappointing end to a great season for Muff. In truth, Carraroe created a lot of chances and were probably the better team. But Muff led for longer and McColgan and Lynch could have done better with a goal opportunity in the 2nd half.

Carraroe were a senior club not that long ago and Muff haven't been better than junior IIRC so what an achievement.

Ok, this is really strange - Donegal ladies are travelling to play Clare tomorrow.

Hi lads I hope all is well this fine Friday evening.

I'm not able to head on up tomorrow to Ballybofey, so would any of ye have any use for a couple of gratis tickets to the game? Or indeed know anyone who would make use of them?

    Hate seeing tickets going unused.

Job done but that game will only be memorable as our first game under the new rules. We looked like a team that have seen very little of the ball in training. We managed the last ten minutes very well in difficult conditions. Two more wins and we should be looking ahead to the championship.

i would be a bit more complementry than that , Daire O'Baoill and shane O'Donnell were excellent tonight and showed an area where donegal can exploit ,

everyone thinks dublin are finished with the players that are dropping out , i am not so sure , killian mcginness is a fine footballer in fairness , they still have players like niall scully the lahiffs ciaran kilkenny ect that is a fairly deaccent side , they covered gallen well and allowed him nothing tonight and donegal still hit the 20 point mark ,

the fact is a lot of people outside donegal are watching how they take to the new rules now that jim is back in charge , id bodes well for ye at the moment looking at tonight

Would have been very annoyed to lose given the lead we had and the Dublin line up.

Good to see Conor O'Donnell back and O'Baoill and Gallen in good form.

Kerry stole one today. But a win next week will be a surprise.

Not expecting a win next weekend. It was hard to judge the team's adaptation to the new rules after just one game. Conditions were not great either. Id love to see us develop a more direct play as was seen in the Derry-Kerry match today. My one concern is our slight lack of physicality. Time will tell.

Biggest issue in the semi final loss was that we weren't able to break the line and were reduced to shooting from difficult (but not impossible) positions. I saw a bit of that again on Saturday night, but, I doubt we will see much during the league if things are being worked on. I do agree we are not that powerful a team. We rely on pace/fitness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭Ceist_Beag

Not that powerful alright but in Langan, Gallen and O'Baoill we have some of the finest kickers in the game. With 3 less defenders to shut off space it will be interesting to see what way teams look to exploit this, be it trying to get inside more or working room for 2 pointers or shots from just inside the arc. We saw plenty of both at the weekend so the video analysts will be kept busy for the next few months!

If any Season Ticket holder isn't using their tickets on Saturday and would be willing to pass them on please let me know.

I think in that you can see help with the new rules, first half Galway were leaving 3 men up which gave us that bit of space and kept the scoreboard ticking over.

Second half they pulled everyone back and it made the difference

I was up in Ballybofey last weekend think it was only my third trip up there. And what struck me how friendly the GAA crowd is there.

Fans stewards every one. Very chatty and love their football. Main stand filling up ages before throw in. I was thinking to myself after a few more days in Donegal “aye” would be a permanent word in my vocabulary! Still not sure about that bagpipes fella, it’s worse he is getting…

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

The fella with bagpipes is a saint compared to that fooker with the bell that we also have to endure during Ireland games as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

A good win today, especially considering we pretty much led from start to finish. Still, we were very poor on our own kickout and gave away the ball too easily a bit much. League football at it's finest. Would be concerned if we are now without Langan and McGee for a few games. 1 more win and we're probably safe but the games don't get any easier and now playing 5 weeks in a row.

with 3 home games to come is it time to start worrying about a league final?😊. Are they all in ballybofey? If we win the next one might see a few hard training sessions the day before games!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,621 ✭✭✭harpsman

I see Derry in ballyshannon and Tyrone in letterkenny. Still with 3 of the next 4 games at home, followed by a struggling mayo away you’d expect us to get to 7 or 8 points

Langan gone so early on and no Mcgee left us looking a bit light around midfield for fielding high ball but when we broke a lot of high balls we still had that old problem with winning those breaking balls. Credit to Patton though when the presssure came from Kerry in the second half his long kick-outs helped and caused Kerry problems. Early days, but great to see the performances from some of the older hands like Paddy Mc Brearty, Ciaran Thompson, Ryan Mc Hugh and Jamie Brennan the latter two of which I have been critical off in the past.

A good result from one of the next two games would most likely leave us safe enough in the league, which from what he has said is as much as McGuinness is looking to take from it. Salthill is no Ballybofey for Galway, but why we insist on hamstringing ourselves in the league with games in Ballyshannon and Letterkenny in particular is beyond me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,564 ✭✭✭✭charlie14

It looks good on paper at the minute, but I would have a lot more confidence of us getting to a safe points tally if we were playing Derry and Tyrone in Ballybofey rather than perhaps having to go to McHale Park and needing a win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

Yeah. While our record in Letterkenny is terrible, we do ok in Ballyshannon. At least Ballyshannon sorted out their terrace, in Letterkenny it's still crap to stand.

Our recent record against Mayo suggests we should try and pick up points before going there.

Win on Sunday and we can relax.

Forker, God love him, may as well have hit a cement wall there, as hitting Murphys chest.

He'll have a sore head tonight one way or the other

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭Redsoxfan

I doubt even God would love him.

Thought we were heading towards a tight finish until the sending off, but will take the comfortable win!
team looking well at this stage in the year. Individual tackling getting back to Jim’s first stint (often over looked with the blanket). Can see the strength and conditioning work done too, the players know their roles.

Can’t see us keeping the foot down with Derry the week after the league final, Jim always did like to experiment in the league

Galway next week will be a tough game. The Derry game in Balyshannon - who knows. They might get a lift after nearly winning a game last night. The other game in Ballybofey against our other neighbours will be interesting. There's the whole 'Fortress Ballybofey' stuff, but they'll probably need the points more than we will. And then away to Mayo, who, bad and all as they have looked won't fear us in Castlebar.

Anyway, delighted to win today and have 6 points from 6. Key now is no major injuries and get some lads back - would be good to see McColgan and McFadden-Ferry get some game time and of course Langan and McGee. Probably won't happen but would be nice to see Mulreany get a bit of game time too. McGhiolla Bride to get a run at midfield maybe?

Gallen's form is a bit of a concern. Fine if he's being well marked and this is affecting his returns from play, but it's the frees that are more of an issue.

Is there a reason all the games aren’t in Ballybofey? Not sure of any other county that does it? Look at the fighting in Antrim to keep a game.
