Tried to do that EOD thing on Metro last weekend. Set up the class. Went into Metro and game kicked me into Firestorm. Didn't work so well there.:) Must give it a go on Metro though.

I went for it last night and only got a few kills, depends a lot on who you are playing, the enemy is far easier to kill when lying down which was the case when I got the 17 kills.

At least it is something to do on Metro.

The starting weapons are pretty much just as good as the final ones. The M416 and SCAR-H are two of the best guns in the game.

you can unlock the p90 by beating the campaign (1 of the 3 endings gives a different gun). Great short range weapon for the engineer

A few of teh China rising guns are pretty good too, L85 being one, it's a demon of a gun.

I used it to unlock most of my assault guns.

Dont "gun hop" from one weapon to the next unlock. Frequently the next gun is not much different and you will be back to working with Ironsights etc.

Find a gun you have unlocked already that feels good and just keep going with it. You will unlock the other weapons AND better scopes etc for that gun (you dont have to be using the last gun you unlocked to unlock the next one, you can unlock them all with the first gun and frequently thats what people do!)

thanks for the gr8 replies lads,
I havent even switched on single player tbh much prefer multi but will have to now i guess,
i havent purchased any dlc yet but may go for premium if im sure i have gotten the bug :)
that last post is really good, I dont have to use a certain weapon to unlock items for another weapon in the same class.... correct?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,427 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

No you have to use the gun to unlock sights, grips, accessories etc for that specific gun. You can check it in the load out screen eg. it will tell you ya need 23 more kills to unlock the potato grip.

You can use one AR however to unlock all the ARs.

Recommend the opposite; do gun hop, otherwise bore yourself silly using the same gun with the same attachments. Snooze.

Rank 100 here, most kills with a gun? 257.

Meh...just use whatever guns you enjoy using. There are guns that are completely useless at killing people, so no point in using them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,387 ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Well he was asking for advice on how to unlock the weapons quickly... advancing to the next unlock immediately means always working with Ironsights...not the quickest way to unlock stuff.

Cadete, say we're talking about PDW's and it goes A , B , C etc... in terms of weapons to unlock.

You start with A with no sights or toys for it. Go kill a bunch of people and soon you will unlock a sight for it. Continue killing with it and then you unlock gun B, continue with gun A and you will unlock more toys for gun A, kill more and you unlock gun C...

So, weapon A will only ever unlock sights and gadgets for itself but it will unlock all guns in its type (PDW).
Then you rinse and repeat for AR's and Snipers and DMRs etc.

The good news is that the starting weapon is actually generally pretty decent and perfectly serviceable.

As Mozattack says, eventually you will have unlocked all the weapons and then you can jump from one to another and start unlocking all their gadgets.

THIS WILL TAKE TIME.... I would reckon most players still have a fair number of addons to unlock :)

Hey Cadete. I, for one am a Battlefield noob with little experience in previous BF games except lvl 20 or so in BF3.. I am also an engineer more than often.

I found I wanted to stick with some guns for ages, as I noticed I wasn't completely useless with them and I found that the ACW-R is really a stand out gun for me. Maybe try that when you get to it and you might find it easier to get the rest of the carbines with it. Its a monster, and that sound... :D

Add me up If you want! Origin ID: Sirinava

I keep getting mixed up with the ACW-R and the AC-5? (the second one which has a bit more recoil and velocity) both are in my 5 top used guns I think. MTAR is probably my favourite carbine though.
Love the F2000 now that I finally unlocked it. Used it on a lot of games when it was considered garbage so it's nice to use it on one where it actually works well.:)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 397 ✭✭The Red

I had no idea about the guns in BF3 and kept coming back to the ACW-R... just on feel alone as I hadnt a clue the difference in any of them.
Then I started BF4 and even though I am trying to learn about all the classes and weapons, I keep going back to it... even now when I should be unlocking other stuff... :S
I love the PDWs too, but they are just no match to the ARs.. at least the carbines can really hold their own at range.

Damn I love the PM7.. another "just because I love the feel" weapons...
all the stats in the world dont matter if the thing feels like a cap gun in your hands.

Oop sorry I forgot to ask what platform, on PC myself. Good luck anyway.

    Sirinava.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,940 ✭✭✭Tazzimus

The P90 and M249 from the story will help get those class guns unlocked as they're both very good.

After that see if you can get some of the assignment guns as some of them are fantastic and make the job a lot easier.

The hardest will be the sniper rifles, they were a severe pain in the hole to unlock.

Ok so was grinding a bit with the ak, bought the premuim and first thing I did was unlock the mtar, find it is a beast, got a bit of a kick but no worse than most, ranked 2 levels after unlocking, kd is positive plus multiple targets mown down in quick succession without a problem, think it's my weapon of choice from now on!

I wonder if that's chronic across the board or if it's just a dip because everyone's out getting plastered in templebar or the local equivalent before tomorrow?

It's the fact that the game still is not fixed near 5 months after release I'd say.people get hopeful when a patch or dlc comes out and lose interest again when its not fixed. The fact you can get shot constantly after taking cover around a corner etc. Does not help.

Last i heard was dice are trying to test ways to fix the net code with testers.that was a few weeks ago now.

Me and a mate decided last night after a few frustrating games to download BF3 again on the ssd.
Amazing game when it works. .The opposite when not . which is regular enough.

i think its safe to say they should fire their testers.

there are many veterans who would test patches for free and spot snugs within seconds if not minutes.

some of the bugs are ridiculously obvious

Like stick an M320 onto the new AR160 and your arms go up over your head .

they actually nerfed it some weeks back and it's still a monster

I really like the MTAR, it's my favourite CQ noob spray 'n pray gun from BF3. I'm also enjoying the M39 EMR, my favourite Engineer weapon form BC2 which wasn't so hot in BF3.

I was away for a week since the last big patch and before I went and the last couple of days it's been like a different game. I've been able to hold my own, just like previous games and the horrible OHKs are pretty much gone, it now feels like a much more level playing field. :)

On the other hand I experienced awful rubber banding tonight and freezes lasting a couple of seconds at a time. Two steps forward one step back I guess.

Started using C4. No good with it but it can be fun. Killed a guy on Locker but his buddy clipped me. Managed to dive into a corner. When the guy rounded it thinking he had an easy kill I could almost hear him go "Awww f**k" when he saw me holding the C4 detonater:D

On the other hand running after a vehicle thinking pleasedon'tturnaround pleasedon'tturnaround & then it does is not so much fun.
