Bit of that in it alright, although to be fair to Sean he's aware of that.

Callan was a good laugh but what on earth possessed them to bring MLM in? Interesting the first time you heard her line of contrived patter, meh the second time and just irritating thereafter. Thankfully hasn't appeared much since.

Think Sean has done a decent job but always more of a political man which inevitably has coloured the show.

In the end though, this listener won't exactly miss him. Which is probably what he would wish.

Lots of politicians breathing a sigh of relief today

I think Newstalk will snap him up, throw him in against Ballsy (©BB) at the weekend.

To be fair to Sean, he's one of the better quality presenters at rte.

That rant about experienced broadcasters didnt really fit?

Whoever takes over will likely do just as good a job.

As long as it's not Miriam..

Duffy and farcy will be even more insufferable today. I predict a 15 minute monologue at the start of each programme eulogising SoR

Not feeling this song as an ending. Personal for SOR though, so I guess it's fitting...

Exactly what Sean himself said (except the bit about Miriam!)

    A class act.

Not quite in tune with each other perhaps?

Ah give over, it was his children singing it as a tribute to their mother. They're not professionals.

Happy trails, SOR. I'd like to see him back in some capacity on the air again. RTE have plenty of form for this.

If only he’d take out some more Rte thrash with him when he is going.

I’m happy he is going. Rte people telling me how great Rte people are does not cut it with me. I have paid a lot of money to Rte in my lifetime for very very poor return.

And would Sean not have counted on the better end of the return for your "investment "?

You being happy he's going, when the majority would agree he's among the best (if not the best) broadcaster in rte these days, is a bit contradictory to say the least.

Smacks of begrudgery for begrudgery's sake.

There were a lot of non RTE people paying fairly honest (I thought anyway) tributes to him.

I have loads of issues with RTE, but I think O'Rourke had a good career. He is not there to pander just to me. Overall he was professional and pandered to very few if at all.

    Just another Rte-er. Bye Bye.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,325 ✭✭✭Tork

I hope we'll still see/hear him on the airwaves. He was one of RTE's better broadcasters and he still has a lot to offer. I certainly wouldn't be bundling him in with the other "RTE trash" that some people are. I'd rather ask questions about why RTE headhunted Ray D'Arcy, a presenter who still sounds like he only started in the job last week. Or why they consider the mediocre Ryan Tubridy to be one of their biggest names. Being a current affairs presenter is probably the toughest gig on RTE radio and it isn't for everyone. Was he overpaid? Yeah, I would agree with that. But all RTE presenters are overpaid so he is no exception to the rule. It's not his fault that his agent(?) negotiated the best possible deal for him. The powers that be in RTE are the ones who are to blame for the ludicrous money they pay their presenters.
