    Orange spelt with a r,q and l.

    I was shocked.

Had to read that word three times before I understood the meaning of it!

Works best if you read it in a stereotypical Dublin accent :D
    It has no meaning.

Oh, I assure you it does :p

But but but, orange already has an 'r'. Curious about the q and l though.

Oops, threw the r in there by accident :D Let's just say what was written did not resemble 'orange'.

I think the person in question was later diagnosed with dyslexia. I just remember being shocked!

I have seen 'sexy' spelt as sxci.

I thought it was pretty pointless to change it.

    It's a never ending struggle.

Seen some retard in my area on my Facebook ticker spell memories as "memerys".

We were in primary school together and he could barely read at the age of 13.

The amount of people online who confuse "there" with "their" and "they're" is mad.

    Don't mention the apostrophe!
I know it's not easy to get right all the time, but once you learn the principle it's fairly straight forward I'd have thought.

I'm not a spelling Nazi, but did see "au fait" spelled as offey in an email recently.

    Also 'loose' instead of 'lose'.

Without getting into grammar nazi stuff, I used to know someone who used "to" where "too" was required and their texts werent lazy textspeak so it wasnt short hand.

    This person has a degree.

As mentioned above using the word 'anal' instead of 'and all' has made for some interesting conversations on the ould Facebook.

And its crazy how many people I have seen doing it without realising they are talking about their arsehole

I know someone who uses 'taht' and 'tat' instead of the word 'that' in text messages. It makes me cringe every time.

I know a guy who writes 'cum' instead of 'come'. Turns the most innocent of messages into the opening line of a porn scene.

She meant 'immense' and spelled 'emence'.

    ffs.

I know there is just plenty of ****ty grammar on the web and all, but this is outrageous.

Not so outrageous. Either that spelling was in use 200 years ago or someone made the same mistake back then.

    http://www.beyondthemap.ca/english/explorer_lewis_and_clark_journal.html

The emence [immense] Seas and waves which breake on the rocks & Coasts to the S W. & N W roars like an emence fall at a distance, and this roaring has continued ever Since our arrival in the neighbourhood

If you have a well stocked public library locally check out the word in the Oxford English Dictionary, the full 20 volume edition. Almost certainly the word immense will have had many different spellings which were accepted as standard at some time in the past. The currently accepted standard spelling may change in the future. An example of how language changes is the new word Alot (conflation of A Lot) which will almost certainly become standard in future given it's prevelance on the internet.

The OED is not free online but it allows you to look at a few sample words such as dictionary and mammoth from which you can see how the current standard spellings developed.

In fairness, it's a foreign expression, so it's not too bad per say.

A girl I'm friends with on Facebook puts "anal" instead of "and all"
Example being last week when she tried to get her friend to go out "Evryones goin out anal on Sunday"

    *cringe!!* :P

Edit: Geansai Rua you got in before me!

Fair point. I know that spellings of words change over time but it's about context too. I certainly haven't seen it spelled that way in any books/newspapers/magazines I have read.
